Fedora :: Firefox 4 Bookmarks Gone After Latest Update?
Sep 3, 2010
I updated Firefox 4 beta to the latest version, and now all my bookmarks are gone. Thanks to x-marks and other means I have backups, but I'm not able to restore them to the updated browser.
After several site:centos.org searches on Google and not finding anything remotely related to this question, I ask, how do I update Firefox 3.0 to Firefox 3.5 without losing any of my settings, history, bookmarks ,etc.?
I have been trying to transfer my Bookmarks from Firefox to Konqueror and am not having much luck. I have just loaded KDE onto Fedora 14 and am having quite a bit of fun going through all the different items in it . I would like to use Konqueror with all my previous Bookmarks in Firefox
Is there any way to update firefox to the latest stable version, like 3.6.x through the repos on OpenSUSE 11.2? And will it cause any problems if it can be done?
The latest Firefox update seemed to override my Slickness Black theme settings for the location bar drop down (where you drop down the bar to see past sites visited. The link under the site name used to be a nice grey and now it's standard weblink blue. Not critical of course but I do personally find this annoying. I tried changing the weblink colors in Firefox but that didn't help. Anyhow have any idea how to get my original color back? It's unreadable in that awful blue.
I did not find any easy way to update firefox by googling so I am asking here. But Is there an easy way to update firefox to firefox 3.6 retaining all plugins, bookmarks etc. I am using fedora 12.
I am new to Fedora and having trouble installing the latest tar file from Mozilla. I am familiar with basic Linux commands and the message I received when after downloading the tar file and extracting it was error while loading shared libraries: /root/firefox/libxul.so: cannot restore segment prot after reloc: Permission denied. I do not have the latest version I tried to yum update and it did not work.
I just recently figured out how to import bookmarks with FF4. Why did Mozilla see fit to Hide the "Organize Bookmarks" behind the "Show All Bookmarks" menu is beyond me?
Quote:
Click on "Bookmarks" ==> "Show all Bookmarks"
In the resulting dialog box click on: "Import and Backup"
Next, Click on "Import HTML"
In the resulting dialog box select the "From an HTML File" Radio Button
Now, navigate to the file that you saved previously, select that file and click on "Open".
A few seconds later all of your bookmarks will appear.
I have just installed Natty and I need to move my Bookmarks from old laptop with Karmic9.10 To new install. Where are the bookmarks or how can I install them I have got the backup file "json" format but I cant find where to put it or how to install it.
It seems today's kernel update has given a few people some difficulty - but my symptoms seem pretty unique.
* I go through GRUB normally. I 'esc' out of plymouth, and watch my services start. I get message 'mdadm: No arrays found in config file'. Don't remember seeing this before, don't have any RAID devices.
* Next, my file-system gets re-mounted in read-write mode (don't know if this is normal or not). Then, my services begin to start-up. My last service is 'crond'. All services start normally. When it gets to 'crond' the [OK] status is never reported. Visually, the screen flickers a few times, stops, then nothing happens. I can type characters though, and they do show up.
* If I then shutdown my computer by pressing the power button, the shutdown procedure begins. 'crond' shuts down successfully (indicating it started just fine), and the computer goes down normally.
* I don't believe this is an NVIDIA issue. I rescue-moded and changed my XORG.conf to the basic VESA driver to eliminate this possibility.
* Worst of all -- No older kernels work now either. They behave in the same way. When I try to boot to other run-levels, no luck either. This tempts me to think the problem might be file-system related and the re-generation of grub.conf threw something off?
found this in my boot log nvidia.ko for kernel 2.6.31.12-174.2.22.fc12.x86_64 was not found. and the driver is disabled and X is not working correctly. I tried removing the driver "yum remove kmod-nvidia "
then re-installing and rebooting. same issue I went to the fusion site and followed there install guide again same issue. made sure the free driver is blacklisted in grub.conf kernel lines
I updated this morning to the latest bugfixes for F13. For some reason, networking has become un-available after the required re-start. I am using a fixed IP. Tried to add eth0 DHCP, which initially worked, but became unavailable after a few minutes as well. I suspect there may be an issue with the card's MAC address which may or may not be detected correctly.. Has Networking been updated somehow in this bugfix release?
Just last week I upgraded to F14. Just today I did the latest yum upgrade, and it included an update on Open Office. (1) I now have Open Office 3.3.0 OOO330m14 (Build:9542). According to the OO Web site, version 3.3.0 is still beta!!! 3.2.1 is still the stable release for download. What is Fedora doing? But that's just a general question; here are some specifics. Printing is virtually broken.
(2) Just opening the File -> Print window takes almost 5 seconds. The blue bar along the bottom of the window shoots across 8 times!! I'm hoping this is not the price paid for the new feature of having an unreadable copy of page 1 appear on the left side of the "Print" window!
(3) The "Properties" button is definitely broken. Click it and select the "Device" tab. I set "Printer Quality" to "Draft Grayscale." Then suppose I print 5 pages. Then I want to print the next 5 pages. The Print Quality is back to Normal! And that's without even closing the document, much less closing OO. Closing OO should save the printer settings for a document. But printing two times in a row without closing the document should definitely preserve the settings I make. It doesn't.
(4) Under System -> Administration -> Printing, I set the print quality for the printer to Draft. That also is completely ignored by OO.
(5) In OO Tool -> Options -> Load/Save I have checked "Load printer settings with the document." That should surely imply that when you save a document, the printer settings are saved with it. They either are not or they are not loaded or they are ignored.
(6) When I select the page numbers to print, that is so slow, the numbers don't even appear the instant I type them. That blue bar across the bottom of the window keeps shooting across until all the numbers finally appear.
(7) Under System -> Administration -> Printing there are two driver choices for HP Officejet 5600: hpijs and hpcups. Neither makes any difference for this behavior.
(8) I have several printers. Not even the printer I selected for doing the printing is preserved from one set of 5 pages to the next.
Who has ruined everything? Fedora or Open Office? On a more practical level, any ideas? Am I missing something? I've used OO with Fedora for years. None of this ever happened before. I NEVER had to select the printer and reset printer quality EVERY TIME I printed without closing a document. Plus, for any new document, the printer quality options in OO would be set to what I specified in System -> Administration -> Printing.
I have a Macbook Pro 5,5. I had Fedora 14 installed on it, updated to the latest version. I updated the kernel, and performed an update. Now, every time my system starts, it loads up the startup fedora bar, and it gets stuck at the bar being loaded 100%.I press ESC to see what is going on behind the scenes, and I notice that the problem is that atd cannot start up.
I've just installed 100+meg of updates and rebooted only to find that when I login the desktop fails to boot. Opening a root-console, I killed Compiz which dropped me back to the login screen where I logged-in again with the desktop starting successfully. From there I disabled Compiz and have no problem starting the desktop now. But that's not really a solution.Even stranger, if I now try logging in with and older kernel version and with Compiz off - if I try enabling Compix now, the desktop just freezes - it also fails to complete loading the desktop. So both the current-kernel/Compiz seem to be linked to the problem in some way!Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a solution? I miss my desktop-effects!
how to import my FF 3.6.3 bookmarks into Epiphany 2.22.1.1 ? I tried the "Import from Firefox" feature but it doesn`t seem to work. Then I tried to import the FF bookmarks.html but Epiphany doesn`t recognize that one either.
My firefox bookmark and history is not accessible, instead a message is shown at the top of firefox window. The message reads: Browser Startup Error The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem. And it links to this mozilla page. How to find the error?
I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on my desktop computer which runs a Core 2 Duo at 3.2ghz and I have 2 gig of RAM. I have installed all the latest Ubuntu updates.
In Firefox, I have about 70 bookmarks in the bookmarks toolbar. Obviously the bar can't show 70 so most of them are in the dropdown section of the bar on the right. When I add a new bookmark, Firefox adds it to the end of the dropdown. Sometimes I want them to be closer to the top so I scroll down, click and drag it up closer to the top. In Firefox under Windows this works fine. However in Firefox under Ubuntu, as soon as I start to drag it up Firefox turns gray and Ubuntu totally locks up. Everything in Ubuntu freezes. The main bar at the top stays color, only Firefox turns gray. I tried clicking around but it's frozen. I tried pressing Esc, ctrl-alt-delete, and a number of other keys but noting will unfreeze Ubuntu. I have to physically turn off my computer and reboot.
So I was playing RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 in a WINE Virtual Desktop when I went to check my email. I launched Firefox and suddenly my bookmarks started to replicate and haven't stopped. I've recorded this happening. Link here: [URL]
I have had 2 people ask me about this lately so I thought I would try it. They want to take a bookmark for a site and put it on their desktop. Seems easy enough - just drag the bookmark to the desktop. It works in chrome but when I tried it on 2 different pc's I get the same error: Error while copying There was an error getting information about "" Automount failed: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already registered I could just have them use chromium-browser I guess.
Tip: Where you have Firefox in both windows and ubuntu it can be useful to synchronise the bookmarks across both browsers. Instead of using Firefox default bookmarks use zotero plugin. Create an account at [URL]Download and install the zotero firefox plugin in both browsers (windows and ubuntu) Use the zotero synchronise feature to sync between windows and ubuntu browsers.
Many years ago I was able to print a listing of bookmarks in Mozilla browser. I would like to do that again.
The problem is that I'm now using Firefox 3.6.12 and can't find anything in the menus to allow this. I've tried cut and paste from the organize bookmarks view but it doesn't work very well, loosing formatting.
I have a Dell studio 1745 laptop and a homemade desktop. The laptop dual boots Winblows 7 & openSUSE 11.2 x64. The desktop has openSUSE 11.1 & Winblows XP.
I'm using Firefox on all the OSs' and would like to be able to copy only part of the bookmarks file (not the .json file). I can edit the bookmarks.html file but have trouble finding section boundaries.
Could someone recommend an editor that can display and edit html? All I've used so far are text editors.
I installed Chromium via a repo generously maintained by Tom "Spot" Callaway. Since it's his repo I thought I'd contact him, but I don't really know how - so I'm brining my issue to the forum to see if anyone has a possible solution.I've been using Tom's Chromium fine for the past couple months. After a "yum update", Flash no longer works in Chromium. It works in Firefox. If I try to play any Flash videos it's just a blank box.
