Fedora :: Installing The Drivers For WGUSB-ANT?

Mar 12, 2011

I just installed Fedora 14 on my laptop and I'm giving it a shot for the first time. I'm trying to install the drivers for the WGUSB-ANT, which I downloaded from this page:

[URL]

The readme says all I need to do is run a couple of scripts and it will untar the tarballs and everything for me, so I run the first script "makedrv" as root using "bash makedrv":

Code:

[root@localhost rtl8187_linux_26.1025.0328.2007]# bash makedrv
ieee80211/
ieee80211/license
ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt.c
ieee80211/ieee80211_tx.c

[code]....

So, it doesn't "make". the "build" shortcut it's trying to use is broken, and the file it want doesn't exist. was i supposed to have put these files in some specific location, before starting? I just ran everything from my Downloads folder... it must be some obvious mistake like that, I'm just too noobish to know exactly what to do.

Fedora Installation :: Two Ways Of Installing Nvidia Drivers In Fedora 12?

Nov 20, 2009

After searching online and in these forums I found two different ways of installing the Nvidia drivers in fedora 12. If you haven't yet installed the the repos then:

Code:
su
rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm
First way:
as su
(1)
yum --enablerepo=rp*g install kmod-nvidia.$(uname -m) xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64

[Code]...

I used the first way and everything seems to work fine. Compiz-fusion works good but i did have to add vga=795 to /boot/grub/grub.conf to get the graphical boot loader to work again. Should I have used the second method? What is the difference in these two ways? Most notably the second steps. Is one way better or preferred over the other? From my understanding you must do this because of the nouveau driver.

Fedora Installation :: F10 Won't Boot After Installing ATI Drivers / Resolve This?

Jan 16, 2009

I'm new to these forums. I'm coming from using Ubuntu for a couple of years and now I'm trying to switch to Fedora.

I installed F10 yesterday and all went well, more or less. The system used to freeze randomly but after updating, everything seemed to work fine (I haven't tried audio yet, though).

I have an X1250 integrated graphics system that's working fine in Ubuntu. After playing around with F10 for a while I decided to download and install the latest ATI drivers from AMD's site. The installation posed no problems, but when I reboot the system it will come to a black screen at some point and freeze there.

I searched the web a little and came to this: http://www.fedorafaq.org/#radeon, but I'm not sure if that's current or old news. If it's current and those ATI drivers can't be installed, I'd appreciate some help about removing them.

Fedora Hardware :: Installing Nvidia Drivers On Notebook?

Mar 4, 2010

I got fedora 12 like 2 weeks ago. I am newb in using linux. I got enough of the problems windows 7 has and thought to change on something good and free . It seems OK but i want to try play some online games on fedora. Seemed it did not have video card drivers installed and tried to install them. Once i installed some kind of video drivers using a yum command i found on web. But i think something was wrong because when i tried the first game installed with wine it worked as if i didn't have video card . Even yahoo messenger works very bad as if i won't have video drivers. I remember at the middle of that installation it shown kind of error like it did not find something.i don't remember exactly what it shown because immediately after that it continued to install video card drivers. But after i tried that game it still seemed something wrong happened. So....how can i see what video drivers i have installed ? Do i need to uninstall them before trying again? I got a CD with drivers when i got my notebook do you think those will work if i install them using wine ?

Fedora Networking :: No Wireless Connections In NM After Installing Nvidia Drivers?

Jun 29, 2009

I installed Nvidia drivers according to the post in HowTos section. It downloaded a different version of the existing kernel, i guess. And the kernel using which I downloaded, when shows up GUI, looks like a Safe Mode of Windows. So I boot the kernel that it downloaded. And there the problem is that in Network Manager applet, it doesn't show me the wireless connections. It doesn't even show the Enable Wireless checkbox upon right clicking it. How to get it back?

Fedora :: Installing Wireless Card Drivers Without Network Connection

Jul 23, 2009

I have Fedora11 running in my machine and it has no LAN port (RJ-45). I have a wireless PCMCIA card. The model of the wireless card is NL-2511CD EXT2(ETSI).When I insert that card to the PCMCIA slot a window pops up and ask for a WEP key. My wireless router is configured with WPA but above pop-up has no WPA option. I suspect my fedora installation does not have the necessary driver for my wireless card.I want to install that driver. I can transfer that file to the machine via thumb drive since it has no network connection yet. How do I install this? Please refer below images as I'm still a newbie at linux.

Fedora :: Kernel Changed After Installing Nvidia Graphics Drivers

Jan 14, 2010

im having an intel E2180 processor with 2 gb RAM and an nvidia 8400gs graphics card. Lately i installed Fedora 12 on my system and found that with default settings the desktop 3d is not working. so installed the kmod-nvidia using yum after following the instruction.i also edited the grub.conf file to rdblacklist=nouveau to blacklist nouveau drivers.

Then once i rebooted i found two kernels in grub ie the old one and the one with PAE extension. when i booted into the old kernel its Xwindows failed to load showing a black screen and when i tried the new PAE kernel it booted in 640 x 480 resolution. {earlier i was getting a resolution of 1440 x 900 on my 17" widescreen monitor}. it also showed that the nvidia drivers failed to load. I also read in some forums that the PAE kernels are for systems with 4gb+ of ram. So i thought it better to reinstall the whole thing.
then i reinstalled the whole operating system using my fedora 12 dvd and performed the 'upgrade or replace the existing linux distribution'. interestingly now my older kernel has disappeared and the PAE kernel is the one that is remaining.

Fedora Installation :: After Installing Graphics Drivers Computer Not Booting Into 14

Jan 22, 2011

I recently switched my primary desktop over from Windows 7 to Fedora 14. I successfully installed the OS on to my hard drive and booted up, following which I installed all of the updates and rebooted. After my first reboot I downloaded the 10.11 Radeon driver and installed it (because the 10.12 was having an md5 hash issue), the install was (supposedly) successful, but when I restarted my computer it first progresses to this screen (copied from softpedia) and then goes black for a second, and then returns to that screen and halts at the end of the progess bar and does nothing. I am looking for help to get back into my system.

Debian :: Correctly Installing ATI Drivers

Oct 17, 2015

I have two monitors, a primary crt which I usually run at 100-160hz depending on the resolution, and a secondary lcd which I run at 144hz. I can't set either to anything above 60hz or any respectable resolution.

I'm running debian 8 with gnome. Apparently I can't use propietary drivers with gnome because it isn't supported and I have to use the open source ones. So I used this website as a guide to install drivers: [URL] ....

I tried:

1. Code: Select all# Debian 8 "Jessie"
deb http://http.debian.net/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free

Which gave me nothing. First line didn't do anything at all, second one didn't work because 'deb' isn't a valid command.

2. Code: Select all# apt-get update
Worked as per usual.

3. Code: Select all# apt-get install firmware-linux-nonfree libgl1-mesa-dri xserver-xorg-video-ati
Only one installed, and that was xserver. The other ones failed (werent found or something?). Anyway as per instructions i rebooted and ofcourse nothing happened. I am pretty sure since step 1 was probably meant to add to the repository, step 3 wasnt able to complete.

But my concerns are...
1. How am I meant to do step 1 if it isn't a real command
2. Should I (or can I) change to something other than gnome, because I don't think its worth missing out on propietary drivers just to use gnome.

My card is a hd7970.

Ubuntu :: Installing Drivers For AWUS036H On 10.10?

Jan 12, 2011

I have been using Linux for over a month and have gone through several books on it. My weak point in linux is system internals and the kernel, (which I am reading up on now). I am a computer scientist and so I am computer savvy, but have not had much experience until recently with linux. (I was a windows guy, but Ubuntu 10.10 has changed my opinion) I am trying to install drivers for the alfa networks wireless adapter AWUS036H. I followed their online manual and I didn't get very far. After looking at the error messages then I assume it is a kernel issue. Here is the error messages I get when I am trying to make the program:

steven@steven-Satellite-A100:~/Downloads/Software/Wireless_Adapters/AWUS051NH/Drivers/RT2870_LinuxSTA_V2.3.0.0$ sudo make
[sudo] password for steven:

Debian Hardware :: Installing The Drivers In Amd64?

Aug 19, 2010

Yesterday I installed Debian "succesfully" (after some problems that were easily solved), but now I need some help with installing drivers and other stuff. I need to install the Conceptronic wireless card (rt61). I followed a guide I found on the Internet, but, when making the installation, Terminal gives me some errors.

make
make[1]: gets in the directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.32-5-amd64'
Building modules, stage 2.
MODPOST 0 modules

[code]....

Another thing I don't know if I installed correctly are the nVidia drivers. I think I installed them succesfully, because my graphics card is now quiet (when the drivers are not installed, it sounds like a nuke) and I have the nVidia settings installed, but... when I try to modify the resolution in Preferences/Monitor, I see "Unknown monitor" and "50hz refresh rate". My TV suports 75hz and when I installed Debian I had it at 75, but after installing the nVidia drivers, everything gone wrong.

I tried to update the xorg.conf with nVidia-settings, and now it says my monitor is at 75hz and it's a Phillips, but I still see Unknow monitor and 50Hz at Preferences/Monitor. Why does this happens? Also, my integrated sound card doesn't work. When I try to open a MP3 file, It opens correctly, but my speakers don't work. And the last thing is... Compiz doesn't work! Well, nothing about Desktop Effects work. I also don't know where should I set up those Desktop Effects (I know how in Ubuntu, but in Debian...).
