When I try to install the wireshark-gnome interface I get a notice about needing two dependencies. One is portaudio and the other is the jack-audio-connection-kit. Seems like kind of odd dependencies for wireshark. Do wireshark really need them? VoIP related maybe?

I'm loving FC14, but I just find out that Wireshark is not working, as it was on FC13.Here is what's happening..... When running the application I get prompt for authentication, that was fine under FC13. I used to type my super user password, andthat was it. On FC14 I get nothing.Now when I skip the authentication the Wireshark Gui comes up, but it has no interfaces showing on my list.What I have!:

I freshly installed Wireshark on my PC by running 'yum install wireshark'. Installation succeeded. But then I cannot find how to start Wireshark. I looked already in different folders by using locate ( and updatedb) but I cannot find the place where I should invoke the program. How I can start my program?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo recently I've been exploring my options in terms of a desktop environment. trying out different options (Blackbox, Enlightenment ect..) and somehow in the process i managed to uninstall Gnome.
Normally I would just re-install it but whenever I try I get this:

So I go through synaptic and it tells me, to install 'swfdec-mozilla' i need to uninstall 'epiphany-extensions' so I do that. and then the terminal gives me the same error as before.. only it say that 'epiphany-extensions' is not going to be installed.

I've recently got this error coming up when I try to install things via yum through the terminal. It happens when I try to install *anything* at all. I'm running 32bit Fedora 14, although my laptop is 64 bit.

Installing from a CD, and F13 constantly freezes at the same spot - "Checking dependencies in packages selected for installation" - gets stuck 1/3 to 1/2 thru.
Dell Dimension 2400, Celeron 2.4GHz, 768MB memory, 120GB drive.
I've used same CD set to install several other systems so CDs are good.

I'm trying to get skype to work on my new system. It seems to install, but trying to run it I get an error message naming a missing dependency. Searching for this with yum whatprovides and installing the result worked in one case, but for the next one, yum install <package containing missing item> returns a few errors of the form:
package <name-version>.fc12.x86_64 (which is newer than <package-version>.fc12.i686) is already installed Is there any way around this? I'd like to get skype working, but am having no luck at the moment. I'd prefer not to remove the .x86_64 packages if I can avoid it in case that breaks something else.

I installed Debian 6.0.1.a on Friday, but the problem is that installing xfce installed a few packages that have nothing to do with it, like Brasero and metacity. I'm using the xfwm but why were these extra packages installed? All I installed at the time were wicd, gdebi, xorg and xfce4. Everything is working fine...but why the extra bits?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI am fairly new to RPM based distributions. I installed using the OpenSUSE 64-bit Gnome live CD. I used the one click installer to enable the Nvidia drivers. Doing so caused the system to want to install about 700mb of packages. I am assuming these are "recommended" packages that normally would be on the DVD with Gnome. There is no graphical way to "not" install them (other than using the QT interface, which I do not want) that I could find from the Gnome software installer, other than to perhaps uncheck them one by one.
I installed Nvidia drivers without such issues by using the "zypper in" command. I would like to use the Gnome interface without having to install all these files along with any package changes. Is there a way to do so? My second question is related. When running a default upgrade, packages such as foreign locales and translations and the yast qt interface want to install which is making the download take a long time. I only need English. Is there an easy way to disable these from installing?

I'm trying to remove gnome-panel to replace it with avant window navigator as system default. For now I've just disabled gnome-panel as startup session, but it bothers me to know I have it installed without using it. Trying to remove it, I get this message as seen in the picture below. Are you member of 'wireshark' group? Try running 'usermod -a -G wireshark <username>' as root.
I ran the usermod command to add my account in the group and checked it

But I realized that the barebone gnome package that I installed doesn't include a terminal or a text editor so I can't install anything further or modify the rc.conf file to make it boot without gdm.
Is there a way for me to kill x from the Gnome interface?
Can you use a KDE application on a Gnome interface?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently upgraded to 11.04 and am running the Classic interface as I don't like Unity.However, I have noticed so far two areas where this Classic version has gone backwards from the default Gnome in 10.10 and earlier.I can't rearrange window buttons on the Window list, nor can I drag-and-drop say FLAC files onto the button for "Movie Player" any more -they end up pinned on the panel!How can I get back the ability to drag window buttons around and and turn off the annoying pinning feature and get drag-and-drop back?
