And I'm completely stuck on installing Planet CCRMA at Home. The guide says update your computer with PackageKit, KPackageKit. I believe I have both installed but cannot see them in the applications menu. Where can check?
Next the guide says: Run the following command in a terminal window: su -c 'rpm -Uvh
Program for simulating planetary movements, especially the movement of a planet in a binary system. It would be nice if the program has some kind of visualisation but I could do that myself. I searched sourceforge but only found several windows programs and Linux programs still in alpha phase, which didn't work for me.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded ubuntu 11.04 and did the usual shizz and it was all going well. I went to get a drink and by the time i got back my computer had completely crashed. I cant move the mouse or anything and it is stuck on 'Installing System'.
Ive restarted my computer (unplug), i had to format the harddrive i was installing it on (luckily it was empty already).
I am running Folding with the multi-core High performance client and would like to set this to be a service rather than have to run it by hand, so to speak, when the machine is booted.
How do I go about setting a service up for this.
but something a lot of folks may not be aware of -- you don't have to go messing around over in /usr/share/fonts anymore if you've got a single-user type machine and just want some fonts for your personal desktop.Since I wipe most partitions when I upgrade (/home is on a separate one) this makes the fonts stay with my login. This is GNOME specific, I do believe KDE has a control panel to install fonts.
Obtain the TTF font(s) youd like to use; Ill use the custom Monaco Linux font as an example.

After hours of struggles I'm still not able to configure a simple backup from a Debian Jessie server to a Planet branded NAS.
Configuration is as follows:
NAS
user name: user
pass: user12
share name: user. Inside that directory, there is bkp directory where stuff should go. bkp was created using Dolphin.
The NAS offers smb service and is accessible through Dolphin file manager and from Windows stations.
Server also has a user named "user" and a password "1"..
Fstab looks like this:
//192.168.2.3/user /mnt/NAS cifs username=user,password=user12,iocharset=utf8 0 0
The command is: Code: Select allrsync -ahv /home/user/Desktop/ /mnt/NAS/bkp/
Errors are: Code: Select allrsync: chgrp "/mnt/NAS/bkp/." failed: Operation not permitted (1)
and
Code: Select allrsync: mkstemp "/mnt/NAS/bkp/.teszt.YEmVM3" failed: Operation not permitted (1) where teszt is a file created by me and YEmVM3 seems to be randomly generated character string.
I've been trying to fix nautilus which is crashing, so deleted the ~/Desktop folder, thinking it would reset as in karmicnot in lucid. Now have home folder as the desktop. Tried recreating ~/Desktop, but no luck. Gconf-editor no luck either since checking or unchecking the home folder as destop does nothing. Any ideas how to fix this problem?

But I don't understand if they can be used to create (with wrapper or indirectly) VST FX and instrument. I need to create something that can be impoted in Cubase and having a basic GUI to change its setting and attribute!
I think SuperCollider is cool, but it looks not to create something importable via VST... Am I wrong?
What about CSound and Pure Data?
After installing the ATI drivers using the guide here I rebooted and now it hangs at my ATI card is the X1200, I found drivers on ATI's website but thought id try the ones in the guide first but I think it caused this problem maybe they arent compatible.Im still able to type things in but it doesnt do anything.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI've been using Ubuntu for the past 4 years or so and would like to give Fedora a try. I have a question - should I decide to ditch Ubuntu for Fedora I will want to install but keep my Home folder.Normally whenever I've reinstalled Ubuntu I've installed over top of my existing installation. I have 3 partitions:
1 - Root
2 - Swap
3 - Home
When I reinstall I normally format root and swap but keep home and choose my usual user name. hen I boot up after install all my settings for all my apps are retained.
If I install Fedora this way (keeping Home while formatting Root and Swap) will I get the same results?
I am new and I need help to install VPN. I have use yum install openvpn and I am stuck on how I can input a cert and run the VPN.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought a new issue of Linux Format magazine and saw it had a bootable disk with Fedora installer/live DVD on it which I was eager to try out "The worlds most advanced Linux distro" I put the DVD in my computer and rebooted it. I selected 'install or upgrade'. It started to load (blasting white text at me). I skipped the media test but then the screen was black and reacted to no mouse moving or keyboard pressing. Not even the OFF button, so I pressed RESET and selected 'install with basic video driver' this time it worked. It didn't fill my whole screen like many 'basic video drivers' but they don't cut off much so I was willing to forgive Fedora using one it was proberly only for the install anyway I could download a new one after. I have a Radeon HD 4200 (extreamly crap) intergrated into the north bridge. I can't afford an expensive graphics card. I build it myself so I can tell you what parts it's got if needed. Anyway I progressed through the setup without problems until I got to the partitionor which defaulted to 'Replace existing Linux system' this would delete Ubuntu an maybe Windows 7. I changed it to custom layout or something like that. It started a partitioner and I remembered I wanted to give ubuntu 30GB more room so I resized it. I created a new 50 GB logical partition and select it as the '/' partition, plenty more space for future Linux distributions. Here's the real problem. Soon after I hit install it said some repositorys require a network connection. It had only one option 'eth0' my motherboard has built in Ethernet but I connect to the net with a wifi card I do not have a cable long enough to reach this computer on the other side of the room. So how was I suppost to continue the setup? I pressed okay hoping it would give up and let me continue the setup but it didn't it said they was an error connecting to the Internet therefore setup could not continue. With only one option: 'Exit Installer'. GRRRR. Interestingly enough after I clicked it the disk drive's light kept flashing but the screen went black forcing me to reboot. Can anyone help me so I can install "The worlds most advanced Linux distribution"*
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure what caused it, but it happened right after running 'yum update'. It may be because it installed a new kernel, and there are now two kernels listed in my grub.conf and at boot; 2.6.31 and 2.6.32. System boots through a list of things it's starting up and stalls out at ATL or ADL or ADM maybe. It hangs there for a minute or so then flickers. This happens every time at boot. It's a bit difficult to post more information since I can't get past that part of the boot process, and I can't seem to be able to skip it either. It may be worth mentioning that this is a mini-itx motherboard. Intel Atom 330 1.6, 2GB DDR2, onboard GeForce 9400m. It's a zotac ionitx-a-u. I've installed a fresh copy of Fedora 12 lxde.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 4 servers with RedHat Enterprise server 32-bit installed. i'm trying to install 64-bit system instead but the hardware has only CD drive (not DVD). When i tried to use external DVD drive and connect it to the USB to install the 64-bit system, it starts ok but then it ask for the media and give me 4 options (Internal CDROM, Internal Harddrive, FTP, NFS). Now i'm stuck with the DVD that system can't read it and i don't have RedHat on CDs and i'm unable to install the 64-bit system.

I am trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 from a USB drive but every time I reach the option for changing the keyboard layout and press forward, it seems to get stuck. That is, the mouse icon shows that it is loading but nothing ever happening. I even went for a shower, came back and nothing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy smallest disc has the Vista loader and nothing else but I cannot select it for Dual Booting in the Ubuntu installation set up only for use as an entire disc which would delete the Vista Loader.
This is what I have:-
1st disc - no operating system much data
2nd Disc - empty except for Windows loader
3rd Disc - no operating system much stuff.
My original plan was to give Ubuntu all of the smaller second disc and I deleted everything ready to give it the entire hard disc. It was only when I went to install Ubuntu it I found the Vista loader lurking on disc 2 and the only option the install Ubuntu set up gave me for disc 2 was to use the entire disc (wiping out Vista loader) otherwise I could have installed Ubunbtu on another disc - which it reported as having no operating system.
If I put Ubuntu on disc 1 would I have a dual boot arrangement given that the installer saw no operating system on that disc ? Is there any (simple) way I can install Ubuntu on disc 2 and not loose the Vista loader? I am installing this version of Ubuntu as it was on the DVD that came with book "Beginning Ubntu Linux" It took me long time to Psych myself up to install it and when I did . . .
I am having trouble with setting up the grub based system on my external hdd. I am trying to have one grub which is going to load operating systems, and livecd if any (usb install). I am stuck at installing Ubuntu 10.10 Minimal version (i don't need gui for linux).Here is what I have done so far:
1. Created 2 primary partitions - windows 7 recovery and data (ntfs)
2. Created an extended partition for linux stuff.

I just installed ubuntu on my m11x and am completely new to ubuntu. After installing the latest driver for the 335m I am stuck at checking battery state and there is no way I can get to the gui anymore. The only access I have to are the tty's and I don't know what to do. I have already tried finding a solution for a couple of hours, but cannot find any. Please help me solve this problem, I do not want to reinstall again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter untarring the file and executing the binary for firefox, the following error is coming "brilliant:/firefox # ./firefox ./firefox-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libpangocairo-1.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory". The libpangocairo-1.0.so.0 is there in /usr/lib.. I guess this is because the SuSE is 64 bit and the software Im trying to install is 32 bit.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI was previously running 10.04 32bit. Recently upgraded my cpu/ram, so figured I'd try 64 bit. On my previous setup, I had / in one partition, /home in another, plus a few other partitions (/backup, etc).
I did the install of 64 bit, but was too scared to point /home in 64bit to the previous /home. After the install, now all those previous partitions/mounts are on /media. I'd like to just point /home at the previous partition. Should I mess with /etc/fstab to do this or will it cause problems? Is the easiest thing to do reinstall, then point the new install to use the pre-existing /home? Wasn't sure if that would cause problems or not. I've backed up most of the previous /home area, so worst case, if it gets blown away, I should be alright.
I encrypted "/" and "/home" during boot with F12. Now I'm trying to install F13. The problem is it will not allow to specify /home as the mount point. It will take /home and not complain but when I get back to summary there is no mount point, just blank. When I entered the passphrase it didn't complain so I think that is okay. The / dir I said I wanted to format, so it accepted the / mount point.
I tried to go ahead and install F13 anyway thinking it may figure this out. However it didn't use my /home but created a new /home.
I am trying to install the Folding@Home client on my x64 fedora 14 box. I am used to in ubuntu where all one would do was install the package "origami" and you just send 2 commands after to set name/team and the initial start and that was all.
such package doesn't exist for fedora, or so it seems.
is there such a package in the fedora world? if not, how do i go about setting it so it is installed and automatically runs upon startup?
