I really wanted to try out Fedora 12, but my workstation does not have a LAN available so I am using a usb-dongle - netgear wg111v2. My problem with Fedora is that it doesn't install ndiswrapper or maybe I just didn't see it. How do I install ndiswrapper when I cannot connect my workstation to internet?
i've patched the source files to be installed on f14 and finally got a succesfull install, ndiswrapper -l comes back with driver installed and presentwhen i run modprobe ndiswrapper i get "FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found" after many hours of google searching and reading various threads i cannont seem to find a solution to this apart from manualy coping the ndiswrapper.ko file but when i use that solution modprobe starts ndiswrapper but there is no wlan0 present in iwconfig.now for some reason even wheni move the ndiswrapper.ko file manually it still is giving me that error. this worked earlier as i mentioned but then i reinstalled ndiswrapper hoping something went wrong but still got the same error so i tried that same fix and i'm still getting that error. i can't figure out what i migt've done differently earlier but i'm not having any luck.
I need do install Ndiswrapper on a new Fedora 14 PC. I found many posts in forums suggesting to use yum after enabling access to both the free and the nonfree repository om Rpmfusion. I performed all the suggested steps but Ndiswraper loooks to be unavailable from Rpmfusion: is it possible? installing Ndiswrapper on Fedora 14?
1: how do you install the ndiswrapper GUI? since i'm coming from a windows background, a little visual would help me out alot. also, whenever i type in "su - yum install kmod-ndiswrapper" it says its setting up the install process, then it says, "no package kmod-ndiswrapper, nothing to do" i have RPMfusion free/nonfree repos installed along with livna repos. can somebody tell me what's wrong?
2: for whatever reason, whenever i plug in my wireless card, i works for about 10 mins. or so, then if i have in my corded optical mouse plugged in, everything goes wrong. first the mouse starts moving in frame by frame, but when i use the built in trackpad it works fine, stranger even is that i can move my mouse around, but whenever i click on something, it doesn't respond. it doesn't ever do this when i use the ethernet port.
I am trying to install ndiswrapper for a netgear wna1100. My nic card is fried so the only way I can use the Internet is with the USB card. I am running fedora core 13 on an older Dell computer.
I have searched far and wide for a sulution in installing 'ndiswrapper' for my 'Netgear WG111v2'I seemed to had no problem in getting it to work when I used to run Ubuntu. I have recently migrated to Fedora and have been having quite some trouble in getting this sry little dongle to work.I have tried a number of solutions including installing 'livna' as I have read somewhere that the needed wrapper is contained within that package, however, when I tried installing I would get the following results.
I've been having a network problem that I've been able to temporarily solve by rebooting the router, but even that can be shaky at times, and it can sometimes disturb others' internet activites, so I'd really like to tackle this while I can. I had an old thread about this, but it's ancient history by now, and plus which, I've got a bit more Linux experience and patience than I did before.
The basic problem is that NetworkManager will associate and connect to my home wireless network, but a) it won't let me ping the router or anywhere else ("Destination Host Unreachable"), and b) the connection lasts for maybe a couple minutes at most. If I reset the router, however, 9 times out of 10 it will associate and connect successfully and I can get online, but I have to run a constant ping to the router with a 10-second interval, otherwise it drops the connection, unless I'm doing a lot of other heavy network activity.
ping 192.168.1.1 (the router):
Code:
I've tried wpa_supplicant, but this is what I get (it's apparently unsuccessful...? ESSID/MAC addresses censored where necessary):
Code:
The last prompt line is included because I cancelled it myself; it didn't abort on its own. If left unmonitored, it basically keeps doing this over and over, with no visible network activity at all.
With NetworkManager, I can keep selecting the network's ESSID over and over, and it seems to reconnect, but I still can't ping out anywhere. I'm using a Netgear WN111v1 wireless adapter with ndiswrapper and the Windows drivers. I have no idea what the chipset is, and I doubt that Linux drivers exist for it, even if I knew what it was. The router is using WPA2 security (hence my trying wpa_supplicant)
lsusb:
Code:
ifconfig wlan0 (while connected; IP/MAC addresses censored where needed):
Code:
ifconfig wlan0 (while not connected; IP/MAC addresses censored where needed):
Code:
Code:
I only include this for format checking purposes. The commented out "psk" is the actual text passphrase, while the uncommented one is (presumably) a hex representation of the same key. Is this correct? I've never done this with wpa_supplicant before, I've only used NetworkManager (which is a pain in the @$$ because it requires X to run, and so it disconnects any time I log out/back in ).
Is there any hope of getting my wireless connection permanently working, so that I don't have to reset the router every time I need to reboot or log out/back in?
I recently switched from Windows XP to a clean install Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10 but it seems to be quite a problem to get the wifi up and running. In Windows the nearby network all appeared in network connections but the same section in Ubuntu is empty. So I decided to go with the ndiswrapper guide to solve the problem with an unclaimed driver. After an entire day messing with my computer I'm still not close... Below follows excerpts taken from the Ndiswrapper guide with posted results from my computer. "ndiswrapper won't work until it thinks that your Windows drivers have been properly installed and that they are the appropriate ones for your wireless card. You can run the command: ndiswrapper -l"
result:
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, it will be ignored in a future release. WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper, it will be ignored in a future release. net5211 : driver installed device (168C:0013) present (alternate driver: ath5k)
So I've posted the result the name of my wireless card below: lspci -nn
Result:
00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: VIA Technologies, Inc. CN333/CN400/PM880 Host Bridge [1106:0259] 00:00.1 Host bridge [0600]: VIA Technologies, Inc. CN333/CN400/PM880 Host Bridge [1106:1259]

It seems like the network is disabled or unclaimed or both. What to do? I'm stuck after spending an entire day trying to install the wifi. I had no problems in Windows XP but it seems to be quite impossible in Ubuntu.
I've tried to install ndiswrapper on Backtrack 4 R2 (without internet connection) but I've got a few errors, and I've googled them but nothing helped (error log is attached)And I have one more question, is it true that when I use ndiswrapper for my wirelles usb I wouldn't be able to crack WEP and other encriptions ?
Originally I used YAST's Software Packages to download and install ndiswrapper so that I can set up my Netgear wn511TA wireless card to work with GNOME openSUSE 11.2 default (2.6.31.8-0.1-default). I followed the guide in Ndiswrapper - openSUSE. I almost got it then was thrown off course by Network Manager. Now, back to square one. 1. Software Management shows 3 installed packages: ndiswrapper, ndiswrapper-kmp default and ndiswrapper desktop. Which of these should I run in order to install the Windows .INF driver file?
e.g. <ndiswrapper> -i <windriver.inf> or <ndiswrapper-kmp-default> -i <windriver.inf>
The reason for this is when I modprobe <ndiswrapper(?)>, I got: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.31.8-0.1-default/modules.dep: No such file or directory. /etc/lib/modules is blank but home/user/lib/modules has the default 2.6.31.8-0.1-default module.
I am in the process of getting a wireless device to work and need to install ndiswrapper, problem is, when it prompts me for the karmic koala cd, which is already in the drive and i click ok, it says it is not the cd. The cd it is asking for has a slighlty different name
So I have installed Ubuntu on my desktop, I have a wireless card that I know works w/ ndiswrapper and the INF/sys files I have, but I have no way of getting connecte to the internet (Ethernet requires and update) . So, My question is, Can I install Ndiswrapper w/o an internet connection (maybe put it on a CD or Flashdrive?).
I just started using Linux, more specifically the Ubuntu distribution, earlier today. I am attempting, and failing, at setting up my wireless with a usb device. My device is on the list of those supported, and I am trying to install ndiswrapper so that I can use the windows drivers. My problem is, my access is restricted. I can not save to anywhere on my File System. Anyone know how to fix this problem?
I updated the Kernel to 2.6.34.4-0.1-desktop. First problem was in order to do that I had to uninstall ndiswrapper. Now I have multiple entries in the bootloader, the default, the desktop, and the openSUSE 11.3 -2.6.34-12. Since I am new to linux what am I suppose to do with all those entries?
I've just plugged my old ubuntu 8.04 drive which used to run on an amd dual core 64 bit machine onto into my new intel duo core 64-Bit box. uname -a gives:Linux aegis 2.6.24-22-generic #1 SMP mon Nov 24 19:35:06 UTC 2008 X86_64 Gnu/Linux. what i'm aiming to do is install the netgear wg311v3 wireless card drivers using ndiswrapper. The ubuntu box is currently offline and i've gone to URL...
my question is can I download and safely install ndiswrapper-utils-1.9_1.54-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb or is there an intel specific package that I should be looking for?
I've usually never had much of a problem setting up wireless with ndiswrapper and ubuntu. I decided to give KUduntu a try, and for the love of me I cannot install ndiswrapper:
Code: Reading package lists Done Building dependency tree Reading state information Done Package ndiswrapper-utils is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source However, the following packages replace it: ndiswrapper-common E: Package ndiswrapper-utils has no installation candidate I'm pretty sure I've added all the repositories in the sources. What am I doing wrong?
My Samsung N140 netbook has an RTL8192 wireless interface in it, which still doesn't appear to work natively in Linux (but that's another story for a different forum) and i've just recently upgraded to F14 from F12 but i can't find ndiswrapper anywhere.
For previous versions, it was available from rpmfusion, but it doesn't seem to be there for F14. Has its name changed or something?
since if read all the forums threads, faqs an tutorials i could find, i hope to find some help here. i just installed openSuse 11.2, KDE 4.3.1 a fews days ago to see what's it all about. i don't have any experience in writing code or anything besides the few little commands i've learnd through my research. the system is running on an old laptop (amd64 3000+) with enough RAM and HD. now i since my wlan-card is detected but won't work due to missing driver i tried this ndiswrapper-method. i used the ndis-version that was included in the openSuse-dvd with no success, then i de-installed this version to try manually. i downloaded version 1.55 from the ndiswrapper-website, logged into the console as superadmin and followed the install-intructions and for intances this tutorial. now i'm even stuck with the "make"-command as the console tells me "If 'make' is not a typo. in earlier attempts while trying to install the wlan-driver through the dvd-given ndiswrapper version i often got the error "makefile:23: kernel tree not found..." as the welcome-note for this forum demands here's some output from the console linux-g6rk:/home/mat/ndis # lspci -nn

I'm trying to install a BCM4328 (rev 03) 14e4:4328 (rev 03) by using this page: [URL]... But when I get to this step: Step 3: All BCM43xx - Configure NDISWrapper (and WPA Supplicant) sudo ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf I keep getting:
After un-installing ndiswrapper my wireless USB is not being found I can't use it. I have no idea what's going on. My searches have been fruitless and I only have so much longer that I can connect directly to the router. Then I have no internet connection. I have even thought about re-installing or distro hopping, but I like Fedora and don't really want to do that. I have always been told no matter the problem there is always a way around without re-installing, eg this is not Windows.
I'm trying to get a Belkin f5d8010 working. I installed ndiswrapper from Add/Remove software, but when it was done, I couldn't find it. Checking the forum, I ran across something saying that I had to compile from source. This is in Fedora 13. Can I get it working with "point-and-click," or do I have do something that requires some thought?( I don't have many of those.)
This installed my Netgear WG311v3 Wi-Fi card on this machine using Fedora 14 x86_64 it took me a while to do so in the future I can (hopefully) follow this guide myself in the future and for anyone who is having problems. First thing you need to do is make sure your system and kernel is up-to-date:
Code: su yum update next you need to make sure that the kernel headers are installed so you can compile ndiswrapper (which is no longer available on FreshRPMs) and GCC as well as svn to get the latest build of ndiswrapper:
Code: su yum install kernel-headers gcc svn Now we need to get the latest build of ndiswrapper to make and install it; make sure you do this outside of root:
I am trying to enable wpa2 aes encryption on fedora. The wifi access was working fine with WEP and system-config-network but recently somebody hacked into my network and I had to switch back to wpa2 aes encryption. Looking at previous posts, I can see that a lot of people have used wpa supplicant and ndiswrapper to enable this. A post from 2006 even explains how to enable this: [URL]?t=93054 Using Add/Remove software, I have installed wpa_gui and ndiswrapper kernel module, but it doesn't work. I don't see my wlan0 in wpa_gui.
