I'm trying to get a Belkin f5d8010 working. I installed ndiswrapper from Add/Remove software, but when it was done, I couldn't find it. Checking the forum, I ran across something saying that I had to compile from source. This is in Fedora 13. Can I get it working with "point-and-click," or do I have do something that requires some thought?( I don't have many of those.)
View 14 Repliesi've patched the source files to be installed on f14 and finally got a succesfull install, ndiswrapper -l comes back with driver installed and presentwhen i run modprobe ndiswrapper i get "FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found" after many hours of google searching and reading various threads i cannont seem to find a solution to this apart from manualy coping the ndiswrapper.ko file but when i use that solution modprobe starts ndiswrapper but there is no wlan0 present in iwconfig.now for some reason even wheni move the ndiswrapper.ko file manually it still is giving me that error. this worked earlier as i mentioned but then i reinstalled ndiswrapper hoping something went wrong but still got the same error so i tried that same fix and i'm still getting that error. i can't figure out what i migt've done differently earlier but i'm not having any luck.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter un-installing ndiswrapper my wireless USB is not being found I can't use it. I have no idea what's going on. My searches have been fruitless and I only have so much longer that I can connect directly to the router. Then I have no internet connection. I have even thought about re-installing or distro hopping, but I like Fedora and don't really want to do that. I have always been told no matter the problem there is always a way around without re-installing, eg this is not Windows.

I'm having a problem going from F12>F13 using preupgrade with a wired internet connection. The current F12 installation is up to date. The upgrade crashes with the "the root for the previously installed system was not found". I've also tried upgrading using YUM and was also unsuccessful. Has anyone run into this problem with this upgrade?

It occured after informing me about the amount of packages that need to be updated and a message about some dependencies that have to be newly installed. At the moment I'm a bit lost about what to do. Also I realy don't know which system-information would be useful - let me know and I will answer.

Ok, I just upgraded from Slackware 13.0 to Slackware-current and now when I run modprobe ndiswrapper I get the following error.FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found.Im not sure what happened on this. I did a search in google and couldn't find anything useful any help would be appreciated.

Error: module ndiswrapper not found.So I recompiled my kernel, upgrading to 2.6.33.4 (no, I can't see the logical connection either) After a week, I got the new kernel working ( in the interim I reinstalled debian- it didn't survive my first kernel attempt. don't ask), and reinstalled ndiswrapper. Same problem. So I had a stoke of genius: download the source package!! So I did. Lo and behold, a new directory appeared in /usr/src/ : modules. I took a moment to admire my work, then I jumped in.I 'ls'ed to see what was going on, and found a Makefile. so I typed 'make'. First error: kernel source not found. So I entered the Makefile, found the(clearly marked)variable,and changed it to /usr/src/linux-2.6.33.4 , exited, and redid 'make' Second error: no wireless support in kernel. So I went to src/linux-2.6.33.4 and did a make menuconfig- loaded my current, threw in wireless, and exited.

I updated to the latest kernel from Suse 11.2 repo. My wireless device won't load firmwares, ndiswrapper won't be a module anymore etc. :

I just installed ubuntu on my hp desktop that has wireless built in. I finally found the windows inf and sys driver files, and learned how to get ndiswrapper without internet and installed the driver. It says that i have the hardware it controls, but when I look at the connection icon, it says not connected, has lost the wireless connection block, and I am not connected to the internet. The wireless is called USB Wireless 802.11 b/g , but it is not usb and is plugged straight into the motherboard with the only physical part is the antenna. Why can't I connect?

It will spend a long time trying to connect, but then just says "disconnected".What could be the problem? It's not like I have a bad connection or anything
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just recently put Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx on my laptop with windows dual booting. I'm pretty new to all this stuff, so I'm a bit confused. I followed instructions I read on here, but none of it seems to be working. I put all of the 3 Ndiswrapper things on, and then copied the .inf and .sys files from windows into the same directory. I just want to connect to my home network, which has WEP security.

So I installed my wireless driver via the graphical ndiswrapper (FYI my wireless adapter is a Proxim 8424-WD). It then said "Unable to see if hardware is present". After I exited out of that message, it said "Hardware:Present" (or something of that sort) next to the newly installed driver. I tried searching for wireless networks and found none. I'm guessing something didn't work right. I used this command "lshw -C network" and got the following result.

I have installed several apps, among them are FFmpeg, Totem, Skype, & iTunes. After installing them, I can't find them anywhere! I installed some apps before & after FFmpeg, Totem, & Skype, and they're working perfectly fine! iTunes was installed last through wine! When I write in the Terminal

As fro Skype, I installed it normally by the app launcher (it's an rpm file) and every time it says it was installed! I installed iTunes through Wine just fine, except that the screen blinked several times & I got an error message regarding Wine, and it gave that it was successfully installed! I then did a repair for it but still I can't find it!
How can I find them? I don't know if this is related or not, but it happened several times when I was installing from Terminal, I got a message, saying something like "yum got locked or blocked by another something"! and it continues repeating endlessly without stopping!
I installed a program with Yast (Kmess), but when I try to run it, bash gives me back this message:

Decided I'd like to take a look at OpenSUSE and installed onto my desktop. Already successfully dual booting Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows XP (which I keep purely for iTunes). When I start the PC the Ubuntu grub menu showing Ubuntu and Windows options has been replaced by a Suse-branded screen showing something that looks (to my untrained eye) like a grub menu. Ubuntu and Suse are listed. If I select Ubuntu I am shown a dos screen with "Error 15: file not found". I am then taken to the old Ubuntu grub screen but trying to boot Ubuntu from that menu returns the same error. I know all the data is still there - I can mount the drive in Suse and view all my documents.
I have searched the forums and tried to follow some of the instructions given in response to similar threads but I'm afraid I didn't get very far. Please assume that I have NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE of Linux! I really know nothing about it and am only just getting to grips with basic terminal commands. Goodness knows why I thought OpenSUSE would be a good idea... I found instructions for running Boot Info Script and these are the results:

Similarly, if I click on System>Add/Remove Software>Package Collections, I get No groups could be found. A cache refresh should fix this. I don't see how to do a cache refresh. I tried rpm --rebuilddb, which didn't do any good and um clean all which also did no good. I did manage to do the updates with yum updates But I don't want to have to use yum at the command line all the time to do updates.
I recently downloaded grub2 source code for my F13 installation and it compiled and installed perfectly, but when I rebooted nothing had happened and grub was still version .97. Is there something I didn't do?

I'm trying to get an Airgo agn100 working in Ubuntu 10.10, 32 bit using this guide and ndiswrapper. I'm OK down to part 2, line 5. When I run "ndiswrapper -l" it returns "ndiswrapper is not installed. You can get it by typing apt-get install ndiswrapper" And of course, when I type that, it fails. I have a Directory for ndiswrapper my home directory, as well as a directory for the belkin pre-n driver that the Airlink needs. How can I get the terminal to "see" ndiswrapper?

I install FC9 with no problem. New partition is created and formatted, Grub is installed, and then... Grub is found and booted, but then I get:

why is linux so deliberately difficult ALL THE TIME. I have almost 2 university degrees and I can't get anything working on linux!
My Samsung N140 netbook has an RTL8192 wireless interface in it, which still doesn't appear to work natively in Linux (but that's another story for a different forum) and i've just recently upgraded to F14 from F12 but i can't find ndiswrapper anywhere.
For previous versions, it was available from rpmfusion, but it doesn't seem to be there for F14. Has its name changed or something?
