Fedora :: Install Gnome-schedule The System Reports Nothing?
Jun 23, 2011
Ive tested this on 2 different machines each running Fedora 15. If I try to install gnome-schedule the system reports nothing to do or that the software is already installed. If I try to remove it the system reports that gnome-schedule is available but not installed. Anyone know how to approach this?
Does anyone know how to schedule a Fedora box to automaticly shutdown and then resume later at a specific time?Shutting down is easy, but I have found nothing about the restarting part.
I've scheduled a task in gnome-schedule to run at each reboot. When I click on "preview task" it initiates a one-time run just fine. However, after reboot it just doesn't want to start the task.
Scheduled Tasks is giving me a hard time. I have a command set for 23:00 daily as "gthumb -f ~/Pictures/ScheduledPic.jpg", but when the time rolls around, nothing happens. The strange thing is, it does work when I press "Run scheduled task." I get the same results if I select a different time or change it to "google-chrome ~/Pictures/ScheduledPic.jpg". My other scheduled task, a Perl script, works fine.
How to launch a graphical application using gnome-schedule ? I got some tutorials about cron after googling . But I couldn't understand the stuff about Screen number As an example, please tell what should be typed in "Task:" to launch say, nautilus
I got the following task from my boss. I have to find out if there is some alternative tool for create reports from Squid except SARG. Now, we use SARG, but my boss told to me, that the main problem of SARG is, that SARG generate huge amount files, which cause problems during migration our servers. He told to me the following condition for change of current tool (SARG):
* standard package of Debian * generate less amount of files, optimal is to save reports to the database
So I would like to ask you if you know about some tool (I can not find some by google)... and the best would be if you told to me some practical experiences.
Just curious if it is possible to schedule a complete system shutdown and start up?
My box with ubuntu server on it is only used as an ssh/proxy server, so I would like save on energy costs and add a layer of security by completely shutting it down during the hours I do not use it.
My system started running at 75 % CPU (its normally 20%), so I opened a terminal and looked at 'top', there are many processes running as root, the one thats sucking the CPU is this:'user'- root, 'pid'-2963, 'command'-X. below that there are a few processes of my user account, then alot more 'root' processes.
I would like to schedule a cron job to run on every first saturday of the month, so far all documentation that I have looked at, mentions only a weekly cron or a monthly cron based on the date. Is it possible to run a monthly cron based on the day of the week?
How to schedule a job using cron that shouldn't run between working hrs 9am-5pm, while run in non working hrs every hour, every day of the month, month & week. I tried the following way, not sure I can use logical not operator(!).
crontab -e 0 !9-17 * * * /path/to/script/file I guess other way is 0 17-8 * * * /path/to/script/file
I've been quite puzzled by the behavior of unattended updates - it seems it runs the updates at or before 7am (on all the server installs I've got). They are only set to do security updates unattended, but what I am wondering is if there is a way to change the time that they install? I want the updates to install early in the morning, at like 3am or such, so I can reboot the machine when I get up if needs a reboot.I found a few mentions about it, but nothing specifically talking about the time.[URL]..
We have just installed the 11.3 version of opensuse in a Dell Poweredge T610 with 8 Gb in RAM and two (2) Xeon Quadcore proccesors. Well, the first time the Opensuse resets the computer, after the installation (it was fine, w/o any problem) the system goes frezze showing a screen which reports a BUG ERROR in the Kernel code, specifically:
Kernel bug at /usr/package/BUILD/kernel-desktop-2.6.34/kernel/timer.c:643 invalid opcode: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP last sysfs file: /sys/module/thermal_sys/sections/__ksymtab_strings CPU 11 ... ...
After a "button off" reset the machine boots fine and we could finish the configuration of the applications that we needed. We tested the machine by two days and it didn't show again the problem mentioned, and we believe it was a little bug in the installation, but today, the server halts again in the boot process 3 (three) times before it runs again well.We have repeated this installation in other computers, one in a 32 bit version and other in 64 bits version (like the Dell) and only in the last one has repeated the problem, I mean, no problems in the 32 bit installation. Fortunately, this new server is just a replacement for an old machine, that is running with the 10.3 version. Perhaps, does we continue using the 10.3 instead of the 11.3 meanwhile it is deputed?
Opensuse Linux (Linux sr-server 2.6.37.6-0.7-default #1 SMP 2011-07-21 02:17:24 +0200 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux). I have a very unusual problem where fdisk reports one size BUT df reports a TOTALLY different and unexpected size. Besides doing a full backup, repartition, reformat and restore, is there anything else I can try first??
Here are the outputs: (sda1 and sda2 sizes are completely different from fdisk!!) df -v -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on rootfs 22G 17G 4.2G 81% / devtmpfs 369M 152K 368M 1% /dev tmpfs 375M 648K 374M 1% /dev/shm /dev/sda2 22G 17G 4.2G 81% / /dev/sda1 15G 7.8G 6.6G 54% /windows/C
I tried to install perl-tk today, and tried tcl and tk in the process. "apt-get install" is reporting success, but I can't find the commands. I expect them to be in /usr/bin, but they're not there. I've tried "clean" and "update" as well, and even rebooted, to no avail. Synaptic package manager gives the same results. This is happening on two different systems, one running koala and the other intrepid. Here's a snippet of what I've tried:
%heron 35: sudo apt-get purge tk tcl perl-tk Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package tk is not installed, so not removed
By trying to install opensuse 11.4 / 1 the installation hungsup at a late level. After rebooting the system, the configuration goes on. When finishing the installation on that way, there are no menus so you can to simply nothing. The problem of system hanging exists also with version 11.3 final release but after rebooting the configuration goes on and when finished, you have the menus.
I love to submit all bugs as I know the importance that this can play for further development. When I click on Bugzilla it allows me to write information etc and I even sign in with my forum id (I know it is not necessarily correct) but I didn't know what else to do and thought it would work. When I sign in it does not reject me until the very final step of the bu reporting process. My question to anyone is how can I get my bug reports to be accepted or how can I sign in to this area of Fedora if required?
I have installed Windows 7 Professional (64 bit version), and OpenSuse 11.2 (64 bit) on to a newly built Core i5 machine. I installed Windows first, with 3 partitions. The 100MB partition Windows reserves, a C: drive for the operating system and a D: drive for data. Both of these are NTFS partitions. I then installed OpenSuse into the unallocated section at the end of the new disk drive. The Linux partitioner showed OpenSuse in an extended partition, containing a swap / /home and /tmp partition. Both operating systems now appear to be working fine, but I'm worried about the Windows Disk Manager showing that the OpenSuse partions are primary ones, and are not inside an extended partition. It only shows a small amount of unallocated space at the end of the drive as being in an extended partition.
Should I delete OpenSuse and start again? Perhaps creating an extended partition with Windows before trying to reinstall OpenSuse? If I leave the disk as it is, is it likely to continue to dual boot without something unstable occuring? It may just be a Windows problem which will not be fatal, but I'm worried all my files may get scrambled at a some point in the future.
Is there such a schedule on this or other Fedora oriented sites? Livna currently installs 256.xx and I need 260.xx for CUDA 3.2 apps. Tried installing 260.19.04, 260.19.12 and 260.24 direct from Nvidia (while removing nouveau driver) on an updated F13 and startx fails.
When I run system monitor in Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic it reports to me that ALL my processes re "sleeping"....with the exception of the annotation for System Monitor itself. Also, when I try to change the priority of a process (the "nice" level??) nothing seems to happen.
I am trying to build a system that will run both KDE and GNOME. I currently have just GNOME installed. So I need to install KDE and KDM (which I know how to do). The thing that I don't know how to do is make it default to KDM when it boots rather than GDM. Also I need a way to get rid of the GNOME apps in the menus in KDE and the KDE apps in the menus in GNOME. Also, this system in running Fedora 11 x86_64
I've installed Logwatch 7.3.6 via the rpm on my CentOS 5.4 server. The issue is I'm getting basically empty reports from logwatch. The only two sections which have any information are samba and diskspace.
The only default options in the config file I've modified are: Code: print = No output = html I'm suspecting the issue has to do with the fact that the as-logged host name doesn't match my current host name. However, I've tried manually changing this on a few entries so they match but they didn't show up in the report. According to the config file, the default for option HostLimit is "No" -- so Logwatch should not care what hostname it sees in a log file, right?
I recently had three problems with SELinux: httpd_unify - SELinux prevented my web server from having write access. ftp_home_dir - SELinux prevented my virtual users from connecting to their home directory. textrel_shlib_t - SELinux prevented two separate Unreal Tournament 2.5 mods from running. The troubleshooter did not notify me of any of these problems. I finally figured out how to fix them on my own and did. CentOS had a very concise, albeit excessive SELinux troubleshooter that involved notifying you of every single problem on your server multiple times. Still, I would rather be spammed with notifications than receive none at all.
If I had not switched from a CentOS box, I would not know the chcon command to set textrel_shlib_t to my mods, as I cannot do it in the SELinux Administration without making it global. How do I fix the troubleshooter to report?
I noticed that in Fedora 15 Beta when you choose a minimal install then add ONLY the defaults of the "GNOME Desktop" package, you will get this error: gnome-desktop3-3.0.1-2.fc15.x86_64 has a required package:
system-backgrounds-gnome
When I look for gnome-desktop3-3.0.1-2.fc15.x86_64 it is not on any installation menu list. I prefer gnome, but installed KDE and that worked. Any ideas of getting gnome to work?
I have followed serveral sets of instructions for creating an installation media USB key from the DVD.iso for fedora 11 i386... Every time i have worked through the installation i get a very bare bones system... why would this happen... i look through the usb key and can see packages for xorg and gnome etc... but they are not installed? do i need to specify somehow that i want a "full" install... so far i have selected something like "Install or upgrade system..." why are some "components" missing from my installation?
