I have up until now been able to use the add-apt-repository command without issue but right now it keeps returning an IndexError.
The error is below:
Code:
Select allx@y:~$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:/kilian/f.lux Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/add-apt-repository", line 122, in <module> shortcut = shortcut_handler(line)
[Code] ....
IndexError: string index out of range
I have tried using the command with an empty ppa (just sudo add-apt-repository ppa:) but that comes with the same error. Googling the issue only brought up some bugreports of a month back, and I've used the command with success a few days ago.
A couple of weeks ago, my keypad stopped working. Not only the numbers, but all keys there. I heard it is a setting in Gnome, but I can't seem to find it.
Having a bit of an issue with Python while trying to write a script to download every rar file on a webpage. The script successfully downloads any link that doesn't contain any spaces, etc. But when it hits a url like: [URL] (Classical Spelling).rar. It fails...I'm sure this is something simple, but I'm so new to python I'm not sure what to do!
Code: import urllib2 import os os.system("curl [URL] -i rar|cut -d '"' -f 2 > temp.out ") infile =open('temp.out', 'r') for url in infile: print url #url = "[URL]"
I've scheduled a task in gnome-schedule to run at each reboot. When I click on "preview task" it initiates a one-time run just fine. However, after reboot it just doesn't want to start the task.
Scheduled Tasks is giving me a hard time. I have a command set for 23:00 daily as "gthumb -f ~/Pictures/ScheduledPic.jpg", but when the time rolls around, nothing happens. The strange thing is, it does work when I press "Run scheduled task." I get the same results if I select a different time or change it to "google-chrome ~/Pictures/ScheduledPic.jpg". My other scheduled task, a Perl script, works fine.
How to launch a graphical application using gnome-schedule ? I got some tutorials about cron after googling . But I couldn't understand the stuff about Screen number As an example, please tell what should be typed in "Task:" to launch say, nautilus
Ive tested this on 2 different machines each running Fedora 15. If I try to install gnome-schedule the system reports nothing to do or that the software is already installed. If I try to remove it the system reports that gnome-schedule is available but not installed. Anyone know how to approach this?
I have added "@daily shutdown -r now" to my root crontab (sudo crontab -e) but it does not seem to ever run. When I look at the chron log using webmin I can see that it tried to run and there was no error. Also when I run it manually using webmin the system reboots fine. I also tried using reboot -f in the crontab instead and that also worked when manually run but not on schedule. The reason I know it didn't run is on webmin it shows the system uptime. This is the output of the chron log:
How to schedule a job using cron that shouldn't run between working hrs 9am-5pm, while run in non working hrs every hour, every day of the month, month & week.I tried the following way, not sure I can use logical not operator(!).
I haven't been able to update my system as of late, because yum keeps giving me the same error, everytime I try to run updates/install packages.
Code: Running Transaction Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/yum", line 29, in <module> yummain.user_main(sys.argv[1:], exit_code=True)
[Code]....
Running it with -v did not provide any other information regarding this problem. I tried running yum -clean all as well as package-cleanup --dupes and other various forms and rpm -Va --nodeps --nofiledigest but didn't get any output.
I can't make use of the Gnome log file viewer anymore. Seconds after I start it, it will gray out and proceed to steadily lay claim to all my available RAM. It doesn't matter which log I choose, or if I don't choose one at all. Same thing. I have 1GB RAM, and when I took the included screencap the log viewer had taken almost 80% of it. It was at 90% before I forced a shutdown of the process. Does anyone have the slightest idea what might be causing this?
I have recently added a new keyboard layout - international U.S with dead keys - so I can type accentes and so in spanish. Ever since that gnome-terminal doesn't recognize the shortcuts keys like <ctrl>r or <ctrl>c and I get my other language charecters instead. thats happen with any keyboard layout I swith to. Furthermore, <alt><ctrl>+F1...F9 doesn't work either.
Since one of the recent updates, I cannot close the System Monitor anymore. Opening it, no problem. All processes are listed just fine and I can force close anything that gives me trouble but... When I want to close System Monitor again, nothing. Qtrl + Q, the X close button at the top right, Alt + F4... all do nothing. And although each time I see some disk activity, there is nothing in the logs.
Another thing I notice is that both dbus-daemon and gnome-system-monitor use about 40% CPU time each, taking the system to 100% CPU usage all the time.Luckily, I have System Monitor open so I can select the process gnome-system-monitor from the list and hit Terminate Process. I did not find anything about it in these forums. Anyone noticed this too or am I the only one?
I'm a big fan of Gnome's alt/middle-click to resize a window. However, it doesn't work anymore for me, and I believe it stopped working (or got toggled off) when I installed the Unity desktop package (just wanted to check it out).
After long while Vmware is not working anymore.. I think because some upgrade a while ago.. but when I try to run the configure.pl then I get this error.. does anybody know what is wrong?
I installed Burg and it worked for some time. I installed some apps that I can't remember anymore and closed my comp. I restarted my computer today and Burg does not work anymore, Grub just start like before. I tried to reinstalled Burg and it changed nothing. When I check Burg-emu it shows me the right thing, like if Burg was working. Did it happened to somebody else?
I want to plot a set of data in only one plot. The problem is that some points of the data should be better plotted in a linear scale (lets say 0 to 100,000) but there are other data points that, exceding the value 100,000, would be better plotted in a logarithmic scale, as they goes in the range 100,000 to 500,000,000. Let's say the data is:
Code:
X Y 0 100 10000 80 20000 75
[code]....
Is there a way to plot all these points in the same plot in only one X-axis showing two different ranges in that axis: linear: 0-100,000 logarithmic: 100,000 - 1,000,000,000?The axis would be read, for example, as:
I have a double boot system in my comp. I tried to make some upgrade in Ubuntu but everything went wrong and It's not working anymore. I can login but nothing is working. What are your suggestions in this case?
You really have to love this fantastic Ubuntu system which destroys your setup and programmes with an update.
It seems as though one of the updates made a mess of Skype this time. well done.
Ok so here is what's happening.
First i have to say that to get my sound card working i needed to upgrade ALSA. Everyhting was running fine until....NOW.
I haven't used Skype in a while but now i thought lets use it a bit. I start up Skype there is sound. but then suddenly sound is gone. video is just fine. sound is gone completelly from Skype. mic doesn't work and neither do spekers, eventhough upon launch everything works. i can't even do a test call. in fact i could do it once but the sound was messy.
also the skype seems to have crashed as i can't exit it at all. it's just keeps running as process.
anyone had something similar? any solutions? i would post this on Skype forums, but since Skype worked before and now it doesn't anymore i believe it is Ubuntu issue.
I'm a newbie in Linux (ubuntu) environment. Well my prob started as I tried to install several w-lan applications. I tried them out and deleted them again. Till (I don't remember the name of the prog) I finally shoot "network manager". I tried some things like: Second installation of ubuntu to get back internet. Downloaded some deb files and installed them in off-line mode.
But it doesn't work because some not satisfiable things happened now I tried to fix over USB live to fix it no chance. What I need is a possibility to install from USB on my first system or boot system one and USB on the same time to use the internet per switching or something like that. Maybe it's possible to update my system wile the USB system is running? Or is there a possibility to use the ubuntu CD and install all needet packages from there because network manager is already in Ubuntu. I think that all OS company's have to think about that , when they deliver a OS that you can choose or afterwords reinstall progs from the original source ...or what?
After a update that has gone bad I can't use yum anymore, I have already reinstalled the latest versions of yum and python from the RedHat site but no luck.
