Fedora :: Used A Terminal And Installed Amarok Via Yum Install Amarok And Got It To Install?
Jan 22, 2010I installed Fedora 12 i386 on my system, and I am using the Gnome Desktop. I used a terminal and installed Amarok via yum install amarok and got it to install; however when I try to load the darn thing it doesn't load at all, what could be the problem and how can I fix this?

Jan 15, 2010I've had problems with Amarok in the past (ancient Egyptian curse?), but now I'd really like to install ver 2.x.
I'm running Intrepid Ibid and just don't have the time to upgrade to Koala yet. So I've update my /etc/apt/sources.list using what's on Amarok's website and run apt-get update. Naturally, no errors. When I try to run apt-get install amarok, I just get the annoying 'amarok is already the most current version'.
I've tried installing the backport/legacy version (night something? Night train?), but it can't find amarok-nightly. (apt-cache search doesn't turn it up, either). I've installing from source but even though I have all of the required libraries, it still errors out.

Feb 17, 2011I've been trying for a couple of days to find out how to install the new release of amarok 2.4.0 in my Ubuntu 10.04. It looks like it is not supported! Is that true? I thought 10.04 was supposed to be a long term support release.Amarok 2.3.2 didn't really work for me, it was too buggy and it seems to be the only release i can install at the moment.

Jul 5, 2010So I don't like the new Amarok as much as the 1.4 version, so I want to install the older release. I download the source files, extract it and go into the directory. I type ./configure and recieve an error about kde-config not being installed, but "ln kde4-config kde-config" (or something like that) solved that problem. But now I encounter this problem after ./configure:

I already have a version of Qt installed (it's necessary for KDE, is it not?), but it's not between 3.3 and 4.0. I've read online about how if you install both the 3.3 and the version included on Slackware 13.1 of Qt there would be problems. I also read that you could find the necessary Qt files in the sources discs, but I'm not sure what files to install:

Do I have to shamefully resign my pride to Amarok 2.3 or can I install 1.4 in some way? And if you've gotten this far, thanks for reading and potentially responding.

Nov 23, 2009I have just installed Fedora 12 KDE, which is kinda new for me as I have previously worked more in Ubuntu and/or Gnome.I have the MP3 codec from Fluendo and I would like to use it in Amarok to listen to my music. I use the MP3 format because my iPod shuffle does not understand OOG.Does Amarok use Gstreamer out-of-the-box or do I have to change something somewhere so I can install Fluendo and have it picked up? Or do I have to do something else (possibly dirty) to be able to play MP3s?Along the same thread, will this allow me to rip CDs to MP3 format as well?

Fedora :: 11 Amarok Not Playing Mp3?
Mar 12, 2010I am running fedora 11 with kde version 4.4 amarok 2.2.2 and xine 2.6. I have xine-lib-extras-freeworld installed from rpm fusion. Amarok will refuse to play mp3 files, however M4A files work just fine.
I initially thought that the xine-lib-extras-nonfree was required for mp3 playback but it seems that my laptop which is f11 kde 4.3 and amarok 2.2.1 does not have this installed and works just fine.
When attempting to play an mp3 in gxine it throws this error: "No demuxer found - stream format not recognised."

Fedora :: Amarok Not Playing After Yum Update?
Dec 30, 2009I have a problem with Amarok. I did a yum update today (which completed ok) but now I cannot play music from Amarok. Rather, it appears as if it is playing but no sound is coming out of the speakers. Other players (xmms, mplayer, xine) are all working fine. A quick note is that on starting up, there is a message that "Phonon: KDE's multimedia library The audio playback device PulseAudio sound server does not work. falling back to." A google search shows that I may need to configure amarok to output sound using something like Alsa. Which is fine, I have alsa installed:

But it wasn't working. And then I found this guide and did everything it says. Now it's even worse, audio and video call buttons are greyed out?
Amarok is a critical software for me. No Amarok, no Linux. I installed the amarok's latest version through yum. But amarok can't scan my collection. It keeps giving this error "[ERROR!] Tried to query an uninitialized m_db! ".???

Aug 13, 2011Amarok 2.4.3 in fedora kde spin with kde update to 4.6.5 was loading my 120gb ipod classic as a generic usb drive instead of an ipod. This made transferring songs impossible.
To fix it: yum downgrade amarok*
Which downgrades amarok and it's dependencies, and then use --exclude=amarok* option with subsequent yum commands until problem is fixed upstream.

Fedora X86/64bit :: 14 Cannot Play More Than 1 Multicast Stream
Aug 17, 2011I have a project to run simultaneously up to 8 video streams, from a pool of about 100 multicast cameras, and display them on 4 monitors. The PC I am using is a brand-new dual CPU 4-core Intel Xeon E5620 2.40GHz, Intel S5520SCR motherboard, 8GB memory and nvidia Quadro NVS 450 graphics. It's running Fedora 14 64-bit and outputs on 2x2 LCD monitors using Xinerama. So far, so good.
Playing a single video stream from any camera works fine. The problem is that, when I open a 2nd media player window with the purpose of playing other camera, all those two video windows play a single stream. It doesn't matter which camera stream I opened first, as soon as I open a 2nd stream, both windows show the same stream (either the first, or the second, at what seems to be a random choice). Further, a 3rd or a 4th video window will also play the same stream. In other words, one stream sort of "contaminates" all the other streaming windows to play that particular stream only. The problem remains the same even when the following changes are applied:
- graphics driver: nvidia or nouveau;
- video player: vlc or mplayer;
- number of active monitors: 4, 2 or 1.
I am really puzzled because, on the same computer, Windows XP SP3 32-bit runs beautiful. I can smoothly play up to 12 video streams and some computer applications, simultaneously. I cannot believe that an obsolete OS such as Windows XP can outperform by a long shot Fedora 14 64-bit in video streaming projects. Just doesn't make sense.
Note: I have also tested Windows 7 64-bit, it also runs multiple video streams in parallel without any problems, but Win 7 has issues that XP is free of (such as graphics output glitching every few seconds).

Jul 15, 2010I updated Fedora 12 a couple of weeks ago, and Amarok stopped working. The splash screen came up, and hung there until clicked on. Looking at the process, it uses 49-50% CPU (weird since it's on an Acer One netbook with an Atom N270 single core processor) and the memory footprint steadily increases. I hung on for another update to see if that fixed it, but one came through today with an update to Amarok, but it is still broken.
