Amarok 2.4.3 in fedora kde spin with kde update to 4.6.5 was loading my 120gb ipod classic as a generic usb drive instead of an ipod. This made transferring songs impossible.
To fix it: yum downgrade amarok*
Which downgrades amarok and it's dependencies, and then use --exclude=amarok* option with subsequent yum commands until problem is fixed upstream.
when I plug in my iPod touch 3g I do get an icon for it on the desktop.However, when I open Rhythmbox, or Amarok, or Banshee or anything else, there is no icon for the iPod touch.I have tried the 'scan removable media' within Rhythmbox and it asks me to initialize a new iPod. Initializing results in the iPod making an audible bleep as if it were charging but does not result in its icon appearing in Rhythmbox. Also, I have been able to upload snapshots from the iPod onto my computer but what I need is audio syncing with the iPod.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy iPhone is recognized by Rhthymbox, but not Amarok. When I plug in my iPhone to my laptop via usb, the mount icon appears on the desktop. I can start up Rhthymbox and that program recognizes the iPhone no problem. However, when I start up Amarok, not only does it not recognize the device, but it also REMOVES the mount icon from the desktop. If I start up Rhthymbox again, the device is unrecognized. I have the unplug the iPhone and then plug it back it for the mount icon to come back.
I am running ubuntu 10.10. iPhone 3G with firmware 3.1.2. Amarok 2.3.1
Not sure if it makes a difference or not, but I jail broke this iPhone about 6 months ago, or whenever they came out with firmware 3.1.2, as I have not updated the firmware since.
I just want to get my tunes going on my newly installed ubuntu linux...
Had issues when 9.10 first came out with Banshee not recognizing my MP3 Player (iPod or Sanza). So, I went back to 9.04 as my music is very important. I decided to upgrade recently again to 9.10 and still having issues. Two things:
1. If I start Banshee and then attach my Sanza player, it pretty much kills Banshee. Screen goes dark and I have to kill it. It seems as if I connect my player first, then start Banshee, it picks it up and all looks good. Easy enough to do it this way, but just curious on it.
2. The Banshee is an 8GB and also has an 8GB SD card. In 9.04, this would show up in Banshee as two devices when connected so that I could copy music to/from either the native drive or the SD Card. Now, even when it connects as noted in #1, I only see the native 8GB on the Sanza... there is no SD Card listed, no ability to get to it, and neither of them show up on my desktop (in 9.04, they both showed up on desktop and in Banshee).
I am totally open to getting off the iPod... went out and bought the Sanza (which I love) specifically because of Ubuntu, open formats (ogg), etc. But, haven't been able to use it fully as I would like.
I haven't hooked my ipod up to a computer since I started using ubuntu in June of 2008, and my playlists are getting a bit dusty. I have a 5th generation ipod. Will I have better luck with amarok or rhythmbox, or does it not matter?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI connect my iPod to the computer, open Amarok, and select the "Copy To -- Local Collection" option. I have over 2,000 songs on my iPod, but only 638 are imported. There is no rhyme or reason to which songs are imported and which are not.
Individually selecting the unimported songs and attempting to copy them is unsuccessful. I have followed the multimedia installation guide to the letter with success.
I wanted to "reset" the collection on my iPod and ended up accidentally deleting, through Amarok, all the playlists, including the default ones like "Most Played" and "Highest Rated". Since these are dynamic playlists with a special meaning for iPod, I don't think creating new, normal playlists with the same name will bring their special behavior back.
How do I restore them with the same dynamic functionality? Is there a way to do that on Amarok? Rhythmbox? GTKPod? Command line?
P.S.: not entirely sure what the policy about iPod questions are, but this one in particular seems to me to be very computer-related because, although it's about interfacing with a device, everything has to be done on my computer, using standard PC libraries/programs, etc.
I cannot seem to make the two work together. I try to config Amarok and change the media devices, however, there is no option called "media devices."

View 3 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Amarok 2.4 today and am attempting to use it to sync my music to my iPod Touch. .mp3 files transfer perfectly, but for some reason any .m4a file is being reassigned a .mp4 extension and being relegated to the 'Video' app on the iPod. I do realise that an .m4a is just .aac audio in an mp4 wrapper, why Amarok and/or the iPod is deciding to treat them like a video instead? It's doing it both to my own ffmpeg-encouded .m4as as well as unprotected .m4as from the iTunes Store (relics of my time on Windows). Anyone know what might be going on with this? Ubuntu 10.10 NE, Amarok 2.4, iPod Touch 2G (... possibly 3G, but I'm pretty sure it's a 2G) running firmware 4.2.1
View 2 Replies View RelatedSummary: a long-working config involving a 1st-generation Ipod Touch with v1 firmware, Ubuntu, and Amarok 1.4 stopped working when I upgraded to Lucid.
A few years ago I was given a 1st-generation Ipod Touch, running the original v1 firmware (I never upgraded to the v2 firmware because v2 wasn't jailbroken at the time). I took it to a friend's place to activate and jailbreak it with her Mac laptop (I didn't have a Mac or Windows machine to install Itunes on; have been Linux-only for many years). Once jailbroken, I was happily able to use it with Hardy, Amarok 1.4, and ipod-convenience (which supply ipod-touch-mount/ipod-touch-umount).
This continued through upgrades to Intrepid and Jaunty. I didn't care for Amarok 2 in Jaunty, so I installed Amarok 1.4 from the ppa someone else made available. I continued to use it through Jaunty and Karmic, without any problems.
Last week I upgraded to Lucid. Syncing Amarok 1.4 to the Ipod Touch no longer appears to work; the Ipod fails to recognize any music transferred onto it (standard "No Music - you can buy music at Itunes" error screen), so I presume this is a libgpod/hash error. I have the FirewireGuid properly set in the .../Device/SysInfo file, as I always have.
Every time I use the Amarok Ipod "connect" function (which runs ipod-touch-mount) it tells me no valid Itunes db was found, and asks to initialize the db. I can then transfer music to the Ipod, and successfully disconnect, but it's not recognized on the Ipod after a respring or reboot.
I've tried RhythmBox and gtkpod briefly with no luck either.

Edit: a little more info: after I let Amarok initialize the Ipod Touch and transfer a song to it, the iTunes.db that gets created on the Ipod is 0 bytes long. I presume this is the source of the problem, and indicates something is going wrong with libgpod's creation/editing of the db.
what I should do from here? I've tried removing the DB by hand, but it makes no difference - the subsequent operation to initialize the db results in the same 0-byte file.
For the last few releases, I've remained with Amarok 1.4, but now that I've deemed Amarok 2 stable enough, I've upgrade, however, the lyrics to my songs (which I put in a lot of effort in downloading), are not reflecting. Is there anyway to export lyrics from Amarok 1.4 and import them in Amarok 2?

I am trying to connect my 2nd Gen Ipod to Xubuntu and import my music collection onto the Ipod. I am having real problems with this. Rhythm Box does not recognise the Ipod with the plug-in, I have tried Amarok, but each time I tried to open it, it just crashed, tried sending a bug report but that did not want to work. I have also tried Exaile with the Ipod plug-in but when you go to the device manager you can click on the Ipod but nothing happens. I have tried looking at the Exaile forums but this seems to be a problem for others as well. The Ipod mounts ok, now a bit stuck.

At this point my ipod shows on my desktop when i connect it via usb. I cannot set up the repository for it in gtkpod because i dont know the location its mounting to. if its mounting at all. so my question is. how can i tell where my ipod is being mounted? I downloaded the Full DVD install and burned it using nero. When I reboot to install it loads everything. Though when I try to push a keystroke it doesn't recognize them apparantly and restarts the sytem after a few seconds. Im using an usb keyboard.

I can see information on the disk, but it doesn't look like it worked. (Weird look to the data). if I pop in a disk, it just loops into this noisy blinking state, and I can hear the eye flipping about... never really doing anything.

I've held down "c" while starting up just like usual, but it's not recognizing the CD as a startup disc. It simply goes into OSX or OS9. I'm a Linux novice, unfortunately.

I have just installed Fedora 12 KDE, which is kinda new for me as I have previously worked more in Ubuntu and/or Gnome.I have the MP3 codec from Fluendo and I would like to use it in Amarok to listen to my music. I use the MP3 format because my iPod shuffle does not understand OOG.Does Amarok use Gstreamer out-of-the-box or do I have to change something somewhere so I can install Fluendo and have it picked up? Or do I have to do something else (possibly dirty) to be able to play MP3s?Along the same thread, will this allow me to rip CDs to MP3 format as well?

I am running fedora 11 with kde version 4.4 amarok 2.2.2 and xine 2.6. I have xine-lib-extras-freeworld installed from rpm fusion. Amarok will refuse to play mp3 files, however M4A files work just fine.
I initially thought that the xine-lib-extras-nonfree was required for mp3 playback but it seems that my laptop which is f11 kde 4.3 and amarok 2.2.1 does not have this installed and works just fine.
When attempting to play an mp3 in gxine it throws this error: "No demuxer found - stream format not recognised."
I am in Amarok, and have a couple of artists loaded, but they are not playing. I am using my Last.fm account. What am I doing wrong, please?
