recently Firefox/Minefield started to stop loading sites after some time and when exiting Firefox, the process would keep running in the background, so I have to kill it. When I did this yesterday, Firefox no longer restored my tabs from last session like usual. There's a sessionstore.bak in my profile folder whose size is 1.3 MB and seems to be intact.
Still, when renaming it to sessionstore.js, Firefox will still not load my tabs - it just displays the start page. This applies to both Firefox 3.6 and Minefield. I tried a sessionstore backup from five days ago, but the result is the same. Is there anything else I need to do to get Firefox to restore my tabs? Session restore in general does not seem to be broken, because when I open a few new tabs and save them, they are restored the next time I start Firefox.
When I started using Firefox It always used to prompt me if I wanted to save the session to start next time when it closed. I accidentally clicked not to ask me to do this action again. And now I want that pop-up box back and I can't find a setting to get it back

View 3 Replies View RelatedThis is regarding the 'screen' utility. I use an utility called 'HummingBird Exceed' to get the XSession of a linux client on my windows desktop (basically it uses XDMCP). But the pain is that at the end of the day, when I close Exceed, the session gets destroyed. I did lot of searching on the web to know how the save and restore session in Exceed, but failed. However, I found that 'screen' is the utility which keeps the session intact even when you logout. So, I did the following:
a. Logged into the machine using Putty (terminal emulator).
b. Started 'screen'.
c. Issued the command: /usr/bin/gnome-session
I got the XSession on the Exceed and started working. I opened three or four gnome-terminals. But when I logout of exceed(and detach from the screen), the screen displayed a message saying that 'Connection to XServer was lost". Hence I could not restore to this session when I reattached to the screen. how do I use 'screen' so that when I attach to the screen on which I had started gnome-session, it attempts to connect to the Xserver and open the session as it was before detaching?
I ended up adding one line in .xinitrc file.
exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session startfluxbox

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had this happen so often in the past, that I'm ready to ditch firefox altogether. I'm running F10 on a 3Ghz Intel dual core processor with a 500gb hdd. l prefer that my browser start up with a full screen when I launch it and firefox has been doing this just fine for the past 8 months. When I fired up firefox (version 3.0.13) this morning, it started up using only half the screen. As I've mentioned this has happened to me in the past and I've never been able to figure out how to get FF back to starting with a full screen. Does anyone know how to make it default back to opening in full screen mode? I've attached an image of how FF is opening now.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a weird problem with Firefox with the following scenario: When I view a picture from a website in the browser and the pictures gets deleted from the server (while I'm viewing it) - I can't save the picture to my hard drive. Firefox always tries to download the picture from the web-server although it's in the cache. Resulting in an image file which contains the HTTP 404 response from the server. *lol*

I am using Netbeans to edit a PHP Project. The Project is located in /home/martin/NetBeansProjects/TemplateSystemCore btw. /home/martin/NetBeansProjects/TemplateSystemCore/bin
The Project is usein a .htaccess file with Rewrite Rules.
I edited the php.ini and set all display errors to On.
I also edided the http.conf and set display errors On. But nothing helped. Have anyone a Idea why my Brwoser isnt printing any PHP Errors? At least a <html> Tag should be on the Source Code. But its also empty.

Adding Firefox add-ons to Guest Session?I wanted to include Add-on to Ubuntu Guest Session Firefox.Is there a proper or better way to do this? Procedure I used was as follows
1. Login to Ubuntu to a user account with sudo privileges (later sudoer account).
1. Switch to Guest Session
2. Install relevant Add-ons
3. Check what the home folder of the Guest Session is. It should be something like /tmp/guest-home.xxxxxx where xxxxxx = six random characters.
4. Switch to sudoer account
5. Open terminal and type

I tested this with Flashblock and it seemed to work. I also admit that since I did the thing for the first time it was not that straight forward for me, but above procedure should work. With quick Googling I was unable to find straight forward method. There is a way to install Add-ons to all users from command line using -install-global-extension but this was not what I wanted to do. I wanted the Add-on just for the temporary guest account.
I've been beating my head against this one for a few months.I have FF set to start show a blank page at startup - yet it remembers all my previous sessions instead. I've been through the about:config page to try and fix it, but it still won't start fresh after a shutdown.

In my case Firefox was running with several different profiles. Each one was started with "-no-remote" and "-P [profile-name]".
Any ideas? Would it be possible to auto-close only Firefox windows?

I had FF and TB running on a desktop computer which was on Suse 11.0. That computer has gone to the Great Interrupt in the Sky. The hard drive still works, and I can hook it up to the replacement (laptop) with an eSATA cable. Thus, all of my email, settings, bookmarks, etc are sitting there waiting to go back to work.
My new laptop is on Suse 11.2, with the FF version which came on the DVD (from Linux Pro Magazine in February). I would like to A), load the latest vers of FF and TB onto this laptop, and B), move my older FF and TB stuff to run here. I am little more than the ignorant appliance operator so derided by Linux gurus in the "Why New Users Give Up" thread. I want to learn more, but my primary need is PRODUCTIVITY, so what I need is an 1D10T-level stepthrough to get done what I need to do.
When I connect to my workstation via Real VNC Viewer 4 to Xvnc running on the workstation, and running "su -" I get authentication failure as follows:
So, effectively I cannot su when connected via VNC.
But if I'm at my workstation, I can su just fine:

I moved up to 10.4 which is working great. I backed up my files with Sbackup so now I'm trying to restore my Home folder but it appears that not all files are restored. I'm restoring from a "full" backup on an external drive. Dumb question: Do I need to restore all the directories (etc, home, usr, var) to get all my home folders/files restored? Or why don't all my Home foldersfiles show after restoring "Home"?
EditPerhaps I have an answer. It appears that I have to install individual folders/files. I assumed that if I selected the Home folder that all sub folder and files would be restored. Apparently not. I have restored individual sub-folders but not parent plus child directories.
Here's what I want to do: Copy the whole Ubuntu 10.04 partition/installation from my old laptop to the new one.
What I tried: Used Simple backup to back up my Ubuntu installation to a USB hard drive. It yields a 10.4 gig folder containing 7 files. Installed 10.04 on the new laptop, used Synaptic to install Simple Backup, plugged in USB drive, started Simple Backup Restore, tagged the backup directory in Simple Backup Restore, and get the error:
Error: no backups found in the target directory.
I also tried copying the backup to the local drive, same difference.
Every time I boot my machine, some of the playback values in alsamixer are set to 0 and are muted, so I have no sound.
The thing is, I have tried setting these to normal levels and then run sudo alsactl store. Then, if I run sudo alsactl restore after I reboot, the sound comes back up. However, if I have alsactl restore in /etc/rc.local, it doesn't work: I still get muted sound when I reboot. I have to run sudo alsactl restore manually each time.
I have already checked whether /etc/rc.local runs at startup, and it does. Also, I know that /var/lib/alsa/asound.state contains the correct values, because when I run sudo alsactl restore, the sound returns to normal levels. So what remains is either alsactl restore doesn't work in /etc/rc/local, or something runs after it and mutes the sound.

Linux with Firefox In order to connect to a network share directly from you browser under Linux, you must configure Firefox to handle URL's starting with "smb://". This is done by typing "about:config" in the address line and hitting return. After that you must right-click the list of settings and choose "New -> Boolean" as shown below.
As name you must type: "network.protocol-handler.external.smb" with a value of "true". After that you must do the same thing over again, but this time choose "New -> String", type the name: "network.protocol-handler.app.smb" with a value of the path to the application you wish to use for browsing network shares. I (finally!) have Mythtv working under 10.04. I use the Haupaugge DVB-T card with its remote. Whilst setting up the kit this worked OK. When I unplugged the keyboard and mouse the system prior to installing it next to the TV appeared to have stopped responding to the remote. In fact it seems to be responding to a number of the remote keys but not the OK and Go keys which isn't enough to run Mythtv.
I don't think leaving a keyboard & mouse plugged in is going to be domestically acceptable.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to restore lirc functionality?
I re-installed ubuntu 10.04 for prep I did a backup with Simple Backup Config after reinstalling i restored with Simple Backup restore some installed software software now doesn't start and after troubleshooting i think problem is file permissions but i'm not sure which permissions of which files to change and what they should be changed to. has anyone had experience with this and if so is it because it works or because its the right way to do it and it works funny thing.. i can't find any forum posts with info on Simple Backup!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI added a repo from launchpad to install latest Network Manager and then installed it (version 0.8). Then I decided to rollback to Karmic's version (since 0.8 doesn't work) but failed: I removed the repo from sources.list
Then apt-get udpate
Then apt-get clean
Then apt-get install network-manager...
But still 0.8 version is downloaded and installed! How can I restore Karmic's version?
I've been using ubuntu for months now and it was really frustrating dealing with hardware issues. Just when I thought everything's going ok, today, when I boot up, I am greeted by the following error: "Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode your screen, graphics card, and input device settings could not be detected correctly, you will need to configure these yourself."
Selecting "run in low graphics mode for one session" doesn't work. It looks like it's loading something but nothing. I tried various options like "reconfigure X" and none of them works. I can login the console find though. I have a backup from a month ago but I've changed a lot since then.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a very bad attempt at hashing the components of an tcp session to assign/locate the session in a hash table bucket. I am pretty sure that it has a very high collision rate and when there are a very large number of tcp sessions my application is having to search a long linked list to find the session within the bucket.
All the hashing functions I have found take a single string input where I need to input several integers and hash them into a single result. My guess is that any real hashing function is going to produce better results than what I am currently doing.

Newbie with 1.4 Ghz Athlon and a 320 Gig HD.
Have Windows XP installed and decided to go with Ubuntu 9.10. Installed fine but I have had frequent problems resulting from installing Ubutu "approved" software. The chief problem is that I lose my ability to login easily and end up having to reinstall Ubuntu.
My primary computer use is the jukebox since I have around 12+k music files as mostly ogg vorbis and mp3. Also do some arranging and want Musescore.
Have taken the "newbie distro" quiz and top recommendations are Linux Mint, Mandriva, Ubuntu, Open SuSe.
Would like a Linuz OS with a "restore" feature since I know I'll propably need it and would prefer to "restore" rather than re-install.
Ubuntu doesn't appear to have a "restore" application. And I've re-installed it about 5 times in the last week due to corruption of files when adding programs (Avast, Musescore .6, Swiftfox, and deleting the games installed with the Ubuntu.
Is there a session manager I can use with 10.10? I would like to try Openbox but am not sure how to select it as a startup session. I would like to be able to choose between kde, gnome and openbox.
