I crearted one user on my linux machine when i try to lock the session it works for the first time.
The next time if i lock the session it doesn't work.
I tried several times but same problem.
I am using KDE 3.3
I'm wondering why the num lock doesn't work in Ubuntu anymore? When you press the "num lock" key, you're supposed to be able to input the numbers along with + - * / and decimal point. When I press num lock and try typing numbers, nothing happens.
I've done a google search and this is a well known problem that nobody has fixed. In Windows it's never a problem.
Seems such a shame that the great Ubuntu and Linux are so good for stability and speed, but can't get a simple num lock working.
Caps lock status is not passed thru tsclient. I'm running the latest lucid desktop 32bit. The whole setup was working 2 weeks ago.

So, effectively I cannot su when connected via VNC.
But if I'm at my workstation, I can su just fine:

I suspect it has something to do with PAM, but cannot figure it out.
everything works perfect including reboot and shutdown but not the hibernate or suspend (sleep). Whenever i try to do Suspend, my caps lock starts blinking and the screen goes white
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running fedora 13 on a Dell Latitude E6500. It's a dual 64-bit system.
It was working, but then I tried to swap caps lock and control.
I used:
System->Preferences->Keyboard
Layouts->USA->Options
Then, under Control Key Position, I selected swap caps lock and control.
Now, my keyboard won't work in the Keyboard Preferences test area or in any other window or when the screen-lock comes on.
I tried logging out. I tried rebooting. I tried deleting my .gnome2 directory. Nothing seems to work. I can use the keyboard on other accounts, so the keyboard is not the problem.
So I have a laptop that I built and installed 10.10 on.
The laptop is used by a minor who needs to be off it at a certain time but can't seem to keep track of time.
I have installed that Nanny program called "Parental Control" through the software center but its not quite what I want. It says it locks out the session...but it seems pretty much useless.
So what I'm looking for is software that would not just lock the session and require them to lock the computer but to literally lock the laptop so they won't be able to use it at all until the time lapses or the admin password is entered.
I've been using ubuntu for months now and it was really frustrating dealing with hardware issues. Just when I thought everything's going ok, today, when I boot up, I am greeted by the following error: "Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode your screen, graphics card, and input device settings could not be detected correctly, you will need to configure these yourself."
Selecting "run in low graphics mode for one session" doesn't work. It looks like it's loading something but nothing. I tried various options like "reconfigure X" and none of them works. I can login the console find though. I have a backup from a month ago but I've changed a lot since then.

I have 2 servers, I set the first one up so that I can remote to it and connect with VNC over ssh by following:[URL]ServerThe 2nd server I did the same, but I cannot connect! When I do, vncviewer prompts for a password and then opens a window of the correct size, but it is all white and then my ssh session is locked! I can't enter any more commands, I have to kill the session.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI noticed (the hard way) that enabling a guest session under 9.04 does not lock the source user. I enabled a guest session for someone and came back to find them rooting through my files. By quitting the guest session, it goes back to the source user's desktop without requiring a password. Shouldnt it go to gnome-screensaver automatically? Can this be changed? Is it a bug?
to replicate: log into source user's account use the menu to start a guest session quit the guest session root through files un-opposed.
what program runs the Session lock and the screen saver for gnome and KDE on centos 5.5. But most importantly id like to know what the config file for the screensaver/session lock is called and where its most likely located.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed openSUSE 11.4 on HP elitebook 2560p few days ago (using KDE live CD). In general system is working fine, but steel I cannot resolve couple of really annoying issues: 1. I've created encrypted partitions for swap and home during OS installation. As result the system keep asking for passwords for each of encrypted partitions before show login screen. That leads to situation when I have to type 3 passwords during each boot/reboot. I was using the same configuration (swap and home were encrypted) on Ubuntu 11.04 and there both encrypted partitions were mount automatically with no password typing after login to the system. Could you please tell how I can configure the same behavior on openSUSE 11.4 ?
2. I've enabled auto screen lock after 5 mins being inactive. As result when I going back to laptop and to unlock the screen the system shows login screen (default login screen with user selection). But when user and password filled in I click login it creates entire new KDE session. Therefore all staff that was open before screen lock is gone. However old session is still in the system (it appears in output from 'w' command).
I am currently using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx 64-bit. I installed several updates today so it might be a bug related to that, but now when I click lock screen,it no longer fades to black like it used to,it instantly goes to black. Not a MAJOR issue but I did like the fade better. Any way to get it back, terminal command or anything?

When I install XEN via yast and do a reboot, then the screen goes black and the LEDs of Num and Scroll Lock are blinking. I'll be typing, and use the number keypad to move the cursor to the far left or right, and get a number instead. Or the opposite will happen.have tried ctrl-alt-numlock. I have tried installing numlockx. I have tried, in fact, every solution listed here that I can find. I had the same problem with 9.04, and found a terminal command (I think) that fixed it.But I didn't save the solution anywhere, and I can't find the post with that solution in the forums.

But then I noticed the sentence: "Includes DES lock - Protect all your important files." This set the alarm bells ringing. If the drive comes with a DES protection lock, is this likely to work with Ubuntu? Or is it going to be a Windows-only thing, locking me out cos I don't use Windows?

The scroll lock key is the key that turns the back light on/off. Num light works/caps light works, but the scroll lock light does not on F12 or Ubuntu Thinking it may be a soft ware problem after trying different usb slots, I dug out an old XP machine and it works.
I'm trying to set up some scripts from one machine that I can use to remotely lock all of my workstations remotely. I have a virtual ubuntu machine ported out to the internet w/ ssh open and I'm using ServerAssistant on my droidX phone to kick off the scripts. I have all of my ssh keys shared between the boxes so I don't have to log on. Everything works beautifully for one machine, a regular Ubuntu 10.10 box with a single video card with 2 monitors. If I execute the command manually from the remote machine, it doesn't work either. Just to make sure, I ran "gnome-screensaver-command -l" locally on this box just to make sure that part works - it locks the machine locally just fine. I just can't seem to get it to work from another machine. I've tried from 2 different boxes and have the same results. I can do anything else I want over ssh and it all works.
I have followed the instructions at TightVNC (VNC Xvnc) on openSUSE as Client or Server (Remote Desktop Connections). I have also successfully configured vnc servers to use both Gnome and KDE on many machines; this is the first time I've had trouble.

I'm using 'Adobe Flash plug-in 10.3.183.4ubuntu0.11.04.1', installed from the package repos on kubuntu, and since the last update, it has broken all flash functionality in both rekonq and firefox.I have tried removing and reinstalling the package multiple times, both with and without the browsers open. Can anyone suggest a way to restoring functionality?

The step "Enable Full DVD Playback(Dual Layer DVD Support)" did not finish correctly doh and now I can't use 'sudo apt-get' for anything or the software center or using the 'Update Manager' does not work.
The update manger says it may be caused by an update not finishing correctly which sounds correct as explained above. The apt-get command gives me back the following....'Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock resource temporarily unavailable' 'unable to lock administration directory /var/lib/dpkg is another process using it?'
I tried the obvious restart but that hasn't worked.
