View 2 RepliesI've been using slackware64 13.1 ever since it came out on my Dell Inspiron 1525, and I haven't really had any problems with my webcam in that time. However, last time I tried to use skype - I noticed that it couldn't detect it.
In kinfocenter, my webcam is picked up (OmniVision Technologies). The only time I've had a similar problem in the past is when I used the "Compact" option in lilo.conf, and the webcam wouldn't turn on. Just removing the option solved the problem.
Since I don't know what steps caused this to happen, I'm not sure where to start fixing it
I want to use my laptop's built in webcam as remote webcam and I don't want to use FTP and post images to a www and use php script or sth, I want to make it accessed remotely as a fast stream and if there is a way I would like to use it with Windows XP - Microsfot Windows Messenger.

It seems strange as i have skype working perfectly on my system, and can use the video option in it without any problem, so it cant be that my webcam isnt recognized. does anyone know how i can get my webcam working in either or both of these instant messengering services.

If i go to System>admin>network i cant activate the interface either as the 'active' button is greyed out, the only way to get the thing to come alive again (other than a full reboot) is to toggle the wireless switch on my laptop off and then back on.Not sure this should be required, i've got the interface configured to start automatically but it doesnt seem to care.

Am running 9.10 on my Medion 2320 laptop.
Am trying to get the webcam working, but cannot figure out how to access it. I am aiming to get it working with aMSN eventually.
I've been trying to get my built-in webcam to work for the past few hours and am completely stuck... Apparently I need a driver called uvcvideo, but I cant find it anywhere (its repos have been removed). I have installed Cheese and Camorama, neither of which work. Camorama throws this error when launched - "Could not connect to video device /dev/video0). Please check connection. Cheese launches, turns camera light on, shows a black screen for ~1 sec then closes.
The only way I can get the webcam to work is with a program called "guvcview" (light turns on and I can see preview), that's why I'm thinking I need the uvcvideo driver.
I've found various posts on how to install the uvcvideo driver, but I get an error on all its reposotory links - "reposotory not found". I also can't figure out how to install the EasyCam program, yet another repository error.
Does anyone know how to get built-in webcams working? I suspect it is due to my lack of driver, but I could be wrong. Lsusb detects the webcam as a Chicony Electronics Co. LTD Gateway USB 2.0 Webcam, so the kernel detects it, just no apps.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 on both my laptop and desktop. I've gotten a Gigaware Webcam with Mic (Radio Shack) 25-157 camera to work out of the box on my Del E-1505, no problems. Even interfaces with Skype correctly.
On my desktop, though, the camera light comes on, the camera is recognized through lsusb:
Code:
Bus 005 Device 003: ID 093a:2620 Pixart Imaging, Inc. and /dev/video0 exists, but I can't access it through VLC or Skype.
I have an Acer Laptop 5739G I believe. It has an Acer Crystal Eye webcam that won't work with Skype or anything.I've tried a few different methods but couldn't get it to work.Really noobtastic with Linux so realllllly basic information works for me.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell laptop studio 1735 with a integrated webcam. The webcam seems to be recognised without issue:
1) dmesg | grep Webcam
Code:
Product: Laptop_Integrated_Webcam_2M
uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device Laptop_Integrated_Webcam_2M (0c45:63fa)
input: Laptop_Integrated_Webcam_2M as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.7/usb2/2-5/2-5:1.0/input/input13
And in the Hardware Info applet I found the following:
Code:
: USB 00.0: 0000 Unclassified device
[Created at usb.122]
Unique ID: +rmv.ZLiQYW8YBnE
[code]....
The manifacturer is:
manufacturer = "SONiX Technology Inc."
Do I have to install a special application? Or edit a configuration file in order to make it work?
This is what I get w/ lsusb:

It stays on screen for about 20 seconds, and then goes away and the folder never opens. The weird part is if I open gEdit and try to load a file, I can see and get to everything.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI connected my HP Pavillion laptop to a 1360x768 Vizio TV. On the TV it displays my laptop but on my laptop it has a black screen. How do I fix it so I can see my laptop screen on my laptop and on my TV at the same time?
I used to be able to do this with this TV as well as my friend's Samsung. I'm using a VGA connector. What should I do to have my laptop screen on my laptop and on my TV at the same time?
I have installed Ubuntu (both 10.10 and 11.04 pre-release) on my laptop but my battery is not recognized and it is detected as a desktop system rather than a laptop. I have tried the cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state method but the directory doesn't exist. I have tried another guide to paste the battery info into this directory but it doesn't allow me to do that and says that the directory doesn't exist, even though I'm trying to make it. I tried it in root nautilus and even on an install of Lubuntu (with a root file manager) but it still failed to budge. I really don't know what to do as I have tried all the guides on the internet that I could find.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I change the "When laptop lid is closed" option in Gnome Power Manager to either "Blank Screen" or "Do Nothing" (by manually using gconf-editor), the screen itself doesn't turn off when the lid is closed. Obviously not a huge deal, as I could just change the "idle before sleep" on certain occasions, but I liked that setting it to "Do Nothing" previously would actually turn off the screen when the lid was closed.
