Debian Hardware :: Fbcon Switches Primary Fb Device

Mar 28, 2014

i'm using a fitpc2 in a network cabinet in my closet. I've got a lilliput 7" usb monitor plugged into it. for the most part it all works fine, however on some reboots fbcon gives the primary gfx card the fb device and the lilliput ceases to display the console. its really rather odd.. the udlfb module loads and displays some booting messages but right after it loads the stupid gma500 and reassigns the /dev/fb0 to it, so your just left with the last frame in the buffer i suppose on the lilliput

if i login blindly and startx, the display comes back to life, but while in X the display isn't updated for any of the ttys when switched to them via ctrl-alt-F1 etc.. and again, sometimes it works sometimes is doesn't..

i'm curious if there is a way to force fbcon to use the udlfb device as its primary and either ignore the gma500 on boot or set it to a secondary. i don't really want to get rid of the ability to use the onboard video, i'm just not going to unless the box is so far gone i need to use an actual monitor..

Fedora :: Disable Ctrl + Alt + F10 In F13 ?

I often use the key combination ctrl + shift + F10 in my editor, and sometimes I mistakenly hit ctrl + alt + F10 which instantly transports me to a black screen with nothing but a cursor resulting in my having to reboot. I have no idea what the purpose of this key binding is but I want to get rid of it. I have looked in 'keyboard shortcuts' but there is none listed for ctrl + alt + F10. How do I disable this once and for all?

Fedora :: How To Permanently Disable Selinux

Jul 14, 2009

I came across the following method of how to permanently disabling selinux and it's notifications. Although changing enforcement from the gui into permissive mode does most of the job, the notifications still pop-up when some applications are started.

So to disable it do the following:

open terminal as root and execute:

Quote:

And then change the SELINUX line to SELINUX=disabled

Quote:

This is it. Now reboot the system and selinux will never bother you again.

If you are not a Fedora user and you are using this forum just because we are cooler here then you will not find the /etc/selinux/config as in the fedora releases. What you need to do is to edit the kernel boot line and add selinux=0 at the end:

Quote:

Reboot the system

Fedora :: Disable Input Device For X?

Feb 16, 2010

I have a Kore Controller from Native Instruments [URL] using it as a sound card on Fedora 12. Its input knobs are supported by Linux, too, but they are pretty useless for me.It came out that these input knobs send mouse movements from time to time, letting my mouse pointer jumping to the upper left corner of the screen.

So I want to disable the knobs, i.e. I want X to not interpret these "knob actions" as mouse movements. What is the best way to achive this? Can I disable it somewhere in HAL configuration or do I have to modify xorg.conf? And how do I do this?Simply plugging out the Kore Controller is not an option for me because I use it as sound card.

Fedora :: How To Disable / Enable Gstreamer

Jun 23, 2010

how to disable gstreamer???? (and be able to re-enable it also?) i don't want to totally remove gstreamer - as it is required by alot of software. however, when i am using
proaudio apps with low-latency having gstreamer enabled is a problem. this is because ( i think ) that my crappy intel-hda (STAC9200) only has one sub-device, while many other cards have multiple.

so when gstreamer is there, i will get more xruns, and a nasty message in dmesg, something along the lines of "intel-hda switching to polling mode". overall performance of the card will suck. BUT! if gstreamer is NOT there, i can run low-latency(2ms) with pretty much no xruns(jackd). the only time i get the odd one is if i am switching drum banks in a wine VST.

well, i remove pulseaudio when i install Fedora, gstreamer doesn't work properly after that, you can't use rhythmbox, or anything. but you will get much better latencies and generally the card is very useful. ie: i can manipulate many sounds/samples/synths in realtime, or actually record in ardour with a decent load...
