View 7 RepliesI upgraded a working Ubuntu system that I'd previously configured to accept tcp connections for the X server, which it's magically gone and added back in again. I can't now figure out how to disable it.
I've edited /etc/gdm/gdm.schemas and changed DisallowTCP to false. I've edited /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc and removed the nolisten tcp line, but it still comes up with it.
The System->Administration->Login Screen has no option for security (pretty sure that's how I fixed it last time).
I have the following problem with Xserver which I think can be solved by starting it without the -nolisten option:
Server - (say 192.168.1.1) has the X application installed
Client - (say 192.168.1.2) is a stock standard ubuntu 11.04 client machine with screen and xserver installed.
I need to be able to run the X application on the ubuntu client by exporting the display on the server as follows:
Code:
export DISPLAY=192.168.1.2:0.0
xeyes
I have run 'xhost +' on the ubuntu client to disable access control however I still get the error:
Code:
Error: Can't open display: 192.168.1.2:0.0
I believe this is because xserver is started with the -nolisten option:
Code:
ps -ef | grep listen
root 1020 989 1 18:21 tty7 00:00:27 /usr/bin/X :0 -nr -verbose -auth /var/run/gdm/auth-for-gdm-V9E9KA/database -nolisten tcp vt7
Both server and client are not connected to the outside world and are in a trusted environment so security is not a concern (I realise doing the above is a serious security issue)
I cannot use ssh tunneling for the xserver traffic as the proprietory program relies on the DISPLAY variable been set to the correct client ip. (Would be great if I could though!!)
I have searched the /etc directory for the -nolisten option and have found the following file: /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc. I removed the -nolisten tcp option however the xserver still starts with the -nolisten tcp option.
I have been looking through the xserver manuals however cant find too much relating to this.
Does anyone have any pointers as to how i could start the xserver without the -nolisten option?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm noticing that the performance for FreeNX Server under Fedora Core 14 is really bad. The screen refreshing is painfully slow. I'm thinking maybe the issue is related to the use of opengl in the X driver? how I can disable opengl entirely, so that the X server is only using 2d rendering?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI came across the following method of how to permanently disabling selinux and it's notifications. Although changing enforcement from the gui into permissive mode does most of the job, the notifications still pop-up when some applications are started.
So to disable it do the following:
open terminal as root and execute:
Quote:
And then change the SELINUX line to SELINUX=disabled
Quote:
This is it. Now reboot the system and selinux will never bother you again.
If you are not a Fedora user and you are using this forum just because we are cooler here then you will not find the /etc/selinux/config as in the fedora releases. What you need to do is to edit the kernel boot line and add selinux=0 at the end:

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Kore Controller from Native Instruments [URL] using it as a sound card on Fedora 12. Its input knobs are supported by Linux, too, but they are pretty useless for me.It came out that these input knobs send mouse movements from time to time, letting my mouse pointer jumping to the upper left corner of the screen.
So I want to disable the knobs, i.e. I want X to not interpret these "knob actions" as mouse movements. What is the best way to achive this? Can I disable it somewhere in HAL configuration or do I have to modify xorg.conf? And how do I do this?Simply plugging out the Kore Controller is not an option for me because I use it as sound card.

Can somebody tell me how to disable apic in the grub? I've already edited the grub text file and added "noapic" in the kernel line. Now is there something similar to "sudo update-grub" that I have to run (I ask because it's not saving when I reboot)? I know in ubuntu you have to run that command in order for the changes to the text file to take place in the grub. Is there a command similar to that for Fedora?

how to disable gstreamer???? (and be able to re-enable it also?) i don't want to totally remove gstreamer - as it is required by alot of software. however, when i am using
proaudio apps with low-latency having gstreamer enabled is a problem. this is because ( i think ) that my crappy intel-hda (STAC9200) only has one sub-device, while many other cards have multiple.
so when gstreamer is there, i will get more xruns, and a nasty message in dmesg, something along the lines of "intel-hda switching to polling mode". overall performance of the card will suck. BUT! if gstreamer is NOT there, i can run low-latency(2ms) with pretty much no xruns(jackd). the only time i get the odd one is if i am switching drum banks in a wine VST.
well, i remove pulseaudio when i install Fedora, gstreamer doesn't work properly after that, you can't use rhythmbox, or anything. but you will get much better latencies and generally the card is very useful. ie: i can manipulate many sounds/samples/synths in realtime, or actually record in ardour with a decent load...
