Fedora Security :: Firestarter Firewall Manager Keeps Crashing After About 5 Minutes. Restarts, Runs For A While, Then Crashes?
Apr 12, 2009
Have homebrewed machine, was running Fedora 8. Installed Fedora 10.Firestarter firewall manager keeps crashing after about 5 minutes. Restarts, runs for a while, then crashes.Thought it might be an IPTABLES turf war with the native Fedora 10 gui firewall manager, so disabled that at System > Admin > Firewall. Also disabled SElinux. Still have problems.Firestarter firewall seems to work OK, just the gui Firestarter monitor/manager.If anyone has ideas as to cause, I'll take a clue.I could use Firestarter to generate the IPTABLES by ..manually editing the /etc/firestarter/inbound|outbound/allow-.. files and then../etc/init.d/firestarter restartBut I find the events log useful to look at. Anyone know where the events log file is kept in the file system?

With Fedora 11, I got NetworkManager, and it never worked right.. Right now, the nm-applet crashes regularly, no message nothing, just disappears from the panel. I wrote a two-liner to run it in an infinite loop. But my wifi also disconnects every 10 minutes. It's like clockwork, it just disconnects. I see things about "error 38" in the logs. I tried downgrading, upgrading, nothing helped.

Running Fedora 10 and 11. Using Firestarter firewall.Does anyone know where Firestarter gets the Events which it displays?I do not find anything in /etc/firestarter/.I suspect Firestarter looks in a log file which Fedora keeps somewhere.

how to configure my firestarter firewall. I have a website which requires the port 1935 to be open. I figured out how to open the port using firestarter. Is there anyway to make the port open only to this website, and not to every other website for security reasons of course.

I am trying to set up a computer to act as a firewall/gateway on my network, and am using the Firestarter program to do this. Everything appears to be set up correctly, and I followed the instructions on their website completely, and I get an error message when I try to start the firewall. It says that eth0 (my internal NIC) isn't ready, and to make sure it's active.

I am trying to run Firestarter firewall but keep getting the message ETH0 is not ready. This problem has been highlighted by others but is there a simple way of sorting this out, answers in other forums are wide and varied. but it's not clear if they have been successful.

I have recently completed a fresh install of 10.4 LTS which installed without a hitch. But I have noticed that since I have moved to Lucid on my T43 the hard drive light is constant for at least 20 mins after each boot. Everything seems to run ok albeit during this time apps take a little longer to open as the HD is busy doing some thing...I just don't know what! BTW I am running the Gnome desktop and its a fairly vanilla install.
This didn't happen in the previous Ubuntu version I had installed on here for several months prior.
Does any one have any ideas what this may be or how I could find out what it is that is using the HD for this length of time on boot.

since the launch of Natty I have been having stupid reboots randomly happening, no warning or otherwise occurs just a full reboot. This only seems to happen when browsing (FF or Chrome) and I have disabled every one of my addons and done the usual checks - baffled I am...So I had this with the upgrade I did on launch day, so naturally I did a full wipe and fresh install. Same situation - personally I cannot deal with this happening all the time so I went back with another full wipe to Maverick and all has been well.
Anyway I thought leaving this a few weeks would mean the community would have seen and squashed dealbreaker bugs so I re-installed yesterday, today the crashes came back again so I throw myself to your wisdom - anyone else seen this, know where I should be looking for ideas? My logfiles don't show anything prior to the reboot as an error. In all honesty I do not want to go back to maverick and cannot believe that Ubuntu have released such a bug riddled distro.

I am using ubuntu 10.4 on a Sony vaio and I never had troubles with the previous versions.just in those days something strange is happening. With no apparent reason, few applications running, the system will just freeze...sometimes I would be able to open a further application, some other things not. I have tried everything (in my knowledge)after which I simply use Alt F2, call the terminal and reboot (the only operation that the system will allow me to do.I have found no pattern of behaviour but his has happened with the following application running
Firefox, Openoffice and Rhythmbox
Firefox and Torrent
now Firefox alone (yes it might be firefox...but still, if I am not wrong it happened also when firefox was shut and I was working on openoffice)now I have logged on into xfce environment to write this message (and I am using Midori as browser)..

I have yet to make flash run smoothly on Linux. I tried Chromium, Firefox, flash versions from 8 and up; it runs but makes firefox crash, chromium does not crash but it's all slow and breaky. Flash 9 runs and does not crash but has no sound. No version on any browser can run HD flashes, it just breaks up and runs like in 3 second interval frames.I have tried everything I've read and spent 3 months trying to watch the nfl.com unsuccessfully. Is flash working smoothly for anybody?

I have had slack 12 on this computer for quite a while with never a problem. Slack 13.1 was installed a few weeks ago without a problem, it seems to run forever as long as it is root. When I go to user it will crash 2 or 3 times a day. When it crashes it is a total lockup that only the off/on switch will reset it. There is no certain time or thing that causes it, it will just lockup while surfing using the command line switching or opening a new le. Any suggestions will be appreciated! I have googled and searched with no info found.I do have 13.1 on another computer that works fine, it has an nvidea video card in it and it is 64 bit.

I have a fresh install of SuSE 11.2. I have installed Communigate Pro (Email server) and Webmin. From my workstation (on the same LAN), I can access the web interfaces for both CGP and Webmin right after the server boots up. But after about 10 minutes or so, I can no longer access either web interface. The server itself still functions normally. I can get on the internet with the server, and I can control Webmin via localhost:10000.
The only thing that allows me to connect to it from my workstation again is to either restart the server, or go into "Network > Linux Firewall" and click "Apply Configuration". What's going on that makes my remote access stop working?

I installed Firestarter firewall on debian Squeeze. Now i note there is a gui available in System->Administration which apparently does not need to be running all the time - its not set up to start on boot. When I boot I notice the boot message has a line saying "Starting Firestarter firewall .... failed"When I am logged in and type "/etc/init.d/firestarter status" as the Firestarter FAQs say, I get"Firestarter is running... ... (warning)"I can run the gui manually and still same message.

Up until recently, as in a few days ago, I was using Ubuntu and had ufw managing the firewall. It's been "recommended" that iptables itself be used. Where do I do the rules go (as in a file) and how do I call those rules at startup?

(CTRL-ALT-Backspace does not work either).

i'm having a problem with lmms. unlike some posts in the forum, my lmms does output sound, but after a few minutes it crashes. the program itself will just happily go on, but any sound crashes. i hear a glitch, en thereafter no more sound. the only way to fix it is restarting lmms, which is quite a pain in the *** if you have to do that every 5 minutes . the problem occurs to me every time i use lmms, so it is consistent. it seems to me that it crashes faster when i have a bar that includes somekind of chord; a single tone it can handle, but when there's bi- tri- or multiple tones, it just crashes nearly instantly. i've tried both alsa and pulseaudio, and both have the same problems. and it's not my overall sound that's crashing: rhytmbox and videos will just continue to play sound .
