Ubuntu Multimedia :: Get Pandora On Adobe Air?

Sep 1, 2011

I'm running 64-bit Natty Narwahl, and I'm trying to figure out how to get Pandora on Adobe Air. After enough searching I got Adobe Air to install, but I can't get it to install Pandora. It keeps telling me to try again or, if it keeps happening, contact the publisher. Also, I can't seem to understand if this is just Pandora One subscription that I can do this with, or if I can just use the non-subscription service with it.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Pandora Keeps Getting Dependency Errors

Sep 15, 2010

I don't know what I did, but I did something recently, as Pandora keeps getting dependency errors. Pandora is working just fine, but if I open the Software Center, it tells me it needs to fix itself before it can do anything. If I do this, Pandora gets removed. And I have an error box next to the Pandora icon on the upper right bar, telling me: An error occurred, please run Package Manager from the right-click menu or apt-get in a terminal to see what is wrong. The error message was: 'Error: BrockenCount>0' This usually means that your installed packages have unmet dependencies. And this is on a 64bit Maverick install, though it was doing the same on the 64bit Lucid install (I just did the Maverick beta upgrade today).

Also, in a terminal:
Code:
-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get -f install
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Correcting dependencies... Done

The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
kdesudo update-manager-kde
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.

The following packages will be REMOVED:
com.pandora.desktop.fb9956fd96e03239939108614098ad95535ee674.1
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
After this operation, 1,114kB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?

I use Pandora desktop app, so I don't want to remove it. But I don't have any idea what the problem here is.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Alsa: Cannot Record Sound

Mar 17, 2011

I've got sound - I hear all the system sounds, I can play sound files, CDs, etc. But I have not been able to record and play back anything with success.

Originally, when I would record (either with arecord or with audacity) I would get extremely low quality sound, with lots of noise and crackling, and my recorded voice was barely audible (even with volume turned up to max). I played with alsamixer for hours without being able to improve matters.

Things are worse now. I tried installing alsa-firmware, as indicated at SDB:Audio troubleshooting - openSUSE. I also tried updating alsa following instructions given at SDB:Alsa-update - openSUSE. I'm not sure which of these changes did it, but the result is that I can no longer record ANYTHING at all. I get absolutely nothing, not even the low quality noise and crackling I was getting before. It's as if there is no audio input at all.

Uninstalling alsa-firmware and reverting back to the older alsa version (1.0.20) didn't change a thing.

I'm running openSUSE 11.2, kernel 2.6.31.14-0.6-desktop, alsa 1.0.20. My sound card is a Creative X-Fi (by the way, yast cannot detect my card, another problem I have never solved).

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Demuxing DTV Record With Projectx (or Other Soft)

Mar 25, 2011

I just buy a cheap Belson TV with recording feature on USB. I get a "ts" file, as usual. and as usual, the sound is not in sync, due to frames dropped. Last time I did so (with other hardware), I simply played the movie throuh an other recorder to get the mpg file, but now I can't anymore. So I try to find a good "ts" editor (I have a lot of unusefull video before and after the movie). Avidemux edits but do not fix the lost images/out of sync sound.

The tools mostly advertised for this use is "projectx". I have it on my openSUSE 11.3, but I fail to make it work :-(. I find no manual, except a very old (2004) one in english, and I don't read german :-(. Do you know of any english manual uptodate and understandable. projectx runs, but no of the files I get is readable by vlc or mplayer.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Record/edit/save Music From The Microphone?

Jan 8, 2009

I would want to record/edit/save music from the microphone (convert a tape to CD). But. I start audacity, leave everything at default, record the music, and play back. It plays agonisingly slow. I can change the sample rate manually such that it sounds good, but this is just a guess (I could for example measure the recording time, and adjust the sample rate after that, such that the displayed time on the timeline fits this time). Why the hell do I need to do this? Why is the recording sample rate = playbe sample rate not producing correct output?

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Cannot Properly Record Sound Card Output

Apr 8, 2010

A few days ago I setup a pc. It contains an "Intel ICH5" sound card. Before I begin posting all the configuration stuff I've tried so far what the standard procedures are to set it all up for recording the sound card output (with Audacity)?

On my older computer it all worked fine but now I only get silent recordings. However sometimes (when I played on the controls the right way...) I get recordings where you can (amoung some noise) recognize the stuff I actually wanted to record very low... Apart from Audacity I've also tried

Code:
arecord -vv -fdat audio.wav
which didn't work either. That's why I think the problem is not related to Audacity but to the system.

Is the combination of OpenSuse 11.2 + ALSA + Intel ICH5 commonly known to cause such trouble?

OpenSUSE :: Very Slow Responses When Running Pandora

Oct 19, 2010

I have a pretty quick machine, quad core 2.66GHz duo processor, nice ASUS motherboard, high speed memory bus and so on. Basically, this is not a machine that's getting "maxed out" by playing some music.Load averages for the 4 processors according to htop are 1.48, 1.25, 0.85. Looking at the System Monitor CPU history I am seeing an average of perhaps 25% load.

However, when I am in a shell, I am getting a second or longer waits between key presses at times. My only guess as to why is that may be is that the streaming audio is on some very high priority so everything else gets put on the back burner. In any case, does anyone have any experience with this and a possible tweak that would give everything else a "fair go" so things didn't seem so unresponsive?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Record Sound At All In 9.10 ?

May 26, 2010

I just upgraded from 8.10 to 9.04, then rapidly to 9.10, when support for 8.10 was finally phased out. I've been trying for a few days to figure out how to record sound and can't get anything working. Sound playback works fine.

Here's what I've tried so far:

Code:

The terminal programs execute and quit after ten seconds, as expected, and create a sound of the appropriate length in my home directory, which is what I want. They don't report any errors, but the sound file they create is just soft background static with occasional soft clicks. Audacity also just records soft static with soft occasional clicks. The Gnome Sound recorder does slightly better, recording almost-intelligible sounds with bad static distortion.

I've verified that sound levels are not muted using the mixer, and have run through the Comprehensive Sound Problem Solutions Guide [url]. No joy.

Here's the output of lscpi -v:

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Microphone Works But Does Not Record?

Code:
user@ubuntu:~$ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 05e1:0501 Syntek Semiconductor Co., Ltd DC-1125 WebCam

and it works. If i tap on the microphone or if I blow on it, I hear noises but after I record something with gnome-sound-recorder I don't hear any sound! The same with Skype, for example.

On Xp (other hd partition) it works.

The audio device on the laptop is a

Code:
user@ubuntu:~$ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC660 Analog [ALC660 Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1

[Code]....

If I open the "sound preferences tool" the device for sound input is "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" and even if I tune the volume of the microphone I don't see any movement in the input level bar. I've also checked alsamixer and the digital volum in the capture interface is set at the maximum.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Record Webcam With Sound?

Nov 6, 2010

Is there currently any way to record a webcam video with sound? This used to be possible back in the day before PulseAudio was installed by default (by using Mencoder, following guides such as [URL] and [URL] ) but that method doesn't work any more: /dev/dsp doesn't exist. I've also tried Cheese and that again just records a video with no audio. All the articles I can find on the topic are from the good old pre-Pulse days.

I've tried messing about with the commands a bit to use the Alsa Pulse device (defined in /etc/asound.conf) since neither mencoder or ffmpeg seem to have built in Pulse input support:

Code:
ffmpeg -f alsa -i pulse -f video4linux2 -s 640x480 -i /dev/video0 out.mpg
- this works, but the audio is more than a second out of sync with the video, which is a bit useless (I'm trying to record myself playing guitar), and the video is very slow (<1 fps) for the first few seconds.
Code:
mencoder tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:width=640:height=480:device=/dev/video0:fps=30:forceaudio:alsa:adevice=pulse -ovc lavc -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=64:mode=3 -o test.avi
- this doesn't work, I get the following error:

I first of had problems getting it to record anything at all, so threads here and here helped.

The problem I have is I can only switch between having playback/volume/output through the speakers AND no feed/volume to the recording process, OR the recording process has a audio source but I cannot hear it!

Im sure I had it working so it played out the speakers and recorded briefly, but dont know what I've done!

I installed many audio type packages along the way to getting it to record at all. I dont know what I need and dont.
