View 2 RepliesI am trying to enable local storage with adobe flash on fedora 13. I go to the global settings web page, but it will not let me check the box to enable local storage.I am trying to get this to work with Pandora Radio.I also installed Adobe Air, but it will not let me install the pandora one desktop.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit today and I installed Adobe Air with no problems. I then installed the Pandora Desktop application and that installed fine as well. After the installation I saw a "do not enter" style sign in my status bar on the desktop. When I hover over it it's telling me an application has a broken installation. When I go into Synaptic and filter for broken I see "com.pandora.desktop.fb9956fd96e03239939108614098a d95535ee674.1" is showing broken. The description is just <> <>. Both Adobe Air and Pandora are working fine, and I'd be happy to ignore this warning except it's going to break my updating because it throws a warning every time.
Does anyone know how I can see what is apparently broken with the install or how I can suppress this message? I had the same versions of software running on 10.04 just fine before I formatted, and I'm the only person on the internet with this problem so far.I've gone over dependencies several time and don't see anything missing. I've tried reinstalling both apps several times. I don't know why this is even showing in Synaptic, since it's a sub app of Air...
I have my Unity desktop just how I like it, but sometimes I like to log in to the Gnome (Ubuntu Classic) desktop. However, I was playing around with CCSM while in Gnome and I've totally messed it up, I have the Gnome panels and also the Unity launcher, it's a total mess. Is there a way to reset my Gnome desktop to default without affecting my Unity desktop?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI started up my computer, the seccond time since i had installed ubuntu 11.04. My unity desktop was gone, and it was now the old desktop(classic). I tried to change it but it didn't work. Then i as i only saw one option i reinstalled ubuntu then it worked again and have since.
View 1 Replies View Relatedis it would be possible create a Ubuntu dvd that contains the ubuntu server desktop and alternate install opptions, as well as all four main desktop environments (gnome, kde, xfce, lxde) and unity. since much of the data is redundant between each version cd's it would probably all fit on one disk. then all that would be needed is two disks one for 32 bit and another for 64 bit. i really think that this could work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just recently (about an hour ago) installed Ubuntu Netbook edition on my old laptop, and I was greeted with the message, that unity could not be run due to some sort of missing driver...fair enough, I was then greeted with the default Ubuntu desktop, I installed all my needed software (wine, google chrome) and installed the missing display drivers. I then rebooted the system, and once again I am stuck with the default desktop, and not the Unity interface. I checked the software center, and it says Unity IS in fact installed.. And yet I cannot make it appear. So now I ask you Ubuntu veterans. How do I make it work?
P.S. I wiped the system of windows, and the computer is an old HP Pavilion DV6000
1)If I installed the Alpha-1 11.10, is it easy to upgrade to newer versions later on until the Final Release?
2) How to make the desktop taskbar appear in ubuntu natty of Unity desktop as previous Gnome? Possible or not?
I'm curious as to how Unity works. How can I DL and try Unity on my 10.10 desktop?

Just a few hours ago, I installed unity on a desktop version of Ubuntu using
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-netbook. I'm not sure I want it any more. How do I go about uninstalling this package (and the related packages)?
I installed ubuntu 11.04 in my notebook. When I try to use some compiz features my desktop is not show after I reboot it. How to resolve it, I don't know, because I found nothing in my desktop. Only docky after I install that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed the Ubuntu 10.10 beta and after intalling, it installed Unity from the Netbook edition.
I thought it was normal so I tried it out for a while but it was glitchy and I didnt like it so I tried disabling it. I couldnt find a way how to do it, and I didnt have any Panels on my desktop and my background was just plain white, all that was visible was the Unity bar on the left side of the screen.
I decided to just reset my ubuntu settings to default without losing any of my Apps, movies, music, pictures etc etc
After doing that I restarted Ubuntu but now all i get its a white background without any panels and only Docky pops up at the bottom.
Is there anything I could do?
I made the big mistake of installing the preview version of the new Unity desktop that will be part of 11.04.I now have a computer that runs like a dog and it is near impossible to do anything. I have tried to find anything on how to reverse back to the standard Gnome desktop, but all I can find is instructions on how to install it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen the live CD is booted up, there is a notice saying Ubuntu is sorry, as there is no 3D support in the laptop. If the Live CD doesn't see the video card etc, then there is a problem. The laptop has NVidia Geforce 310M, meaning it has the 3D support, only Ubuntu doesn't see it on live boot, so what the use of the Unity desktop? The Gnome starts up.
I have seen Gnome, but I'd like to see Unity. How can I do it? I can of course download the NVidia driver. But to activate the driver, I have to restart the laptop, then the Live session would go away. By the way, if Linux to be everybody's OS, I think the "restricted" drivers should be included, as they are allowed by the owners to be downloaded!
the gui for new 11.04 sucks is there a way to get rid of unity and revert to old style desktop? with panels at top and bot and main gnome menu etc cos i personaly dont like unity one little bit i like having list of apps n stuff ?? but would like to be using latest distro for obious reasons
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently downloaded and installed Ubuntu 11.04 desktop. I'd like to be able to dual boot into Windows or Linux on my PC so I've installed in on an ext4 partition on a separate drive from Windows. The installation process ran smoothly and the dual boot functionality works as planned. The problem I'm having is that after logging in, the login window disappears (as does the options bar at the bottom of the screen), and then nothing else appears, just the mouse cursor (sometimes the loading icon, sometimes not) and an empty background image, no icons, no menus. It doesn't matter how long I leave it for, nothing ever happens from this point on. I am technical, however, unfortunately ,I'm very new to Linux (something I'd like to remedy) so I'm a bit stuck with what to try next.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I finally managed to install a copy of Natty on my old laptop, but when I logged in, the desktop was frozen. I could move my mouse, but I couldn't click anything. I didn't know if it had to do with packages not being up to date or something (though I doubt it is) so I ran sudo apt-get update, and then tried to run sudo apt-get upgrade, but I got an error saying "E: Unable to locate package upgrade". Apparently I'm not the first to have this problem. I found a similar question asked at [URL]... login. However, there was no answer. I thought that maybe an Ubuntu-specific forum would have an answer.

View 2 Replies View Relatedcurrently i run both KDE and Ubuntu Unity 11.04 on my machine. I have encountered a little problem when switching desktop environments. With KDE, i prefer to use KWin as my windows manager (since i find it highly polished), and with Unity, compiz (not by choice). The problem is that if i don't switch the windows manager to compiz before switching over to unity, all hell breaks loose. Same with switching over from Unity to KDE.
The only solution i have found is to switch to Classic Ubuntu. and use the compiz fusion icon to select the windows manager in order to avoid any problems.
when i log onto the either KDE or Unity, how can i load the correct desktop environment in case it crashes (which it has)?
Note: this has also become a concern to me because of 11.10 removing the classic gnome. If the proper window manger can be loaded before entering the preferred desktop environment KDE, Gnome3 or Unity,
Having been totally happy with Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 but after a recent fresh install of 11.04 I find myself extremely stressed out with the desk top.I absolutely hate the unity desktop. It's flakey, unreliable, with random mouseclick issues, random application crashes and poor performance both in the increased time it now takes me to navigate to the apps that I want to fire up and in terms of really slow rendering of menus. It's awkward to start up multiple apps (I typically have my IDE, eMail client, browser, ssh terminals to remote servers and at least one terminal running at any one time)
I use my system as a serious development platform and I have come to the conclusion that 11.04 in it's default configuration format (and also with the classic log in being just as flakey) has to go. It's costing me too much in lost development time.So I'm faced with a decision, move back to using 10.10, stick with 11.04 but find a very much better desktop alternative to unity (and I don't mean the classic log in options as already explained) or I ditch Ubuntu in favour of an alternative distribution.
I hate desktop icons, can't find an easy way to hide/disable them.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRight now I am running 11.04, 10.04, 10.10. and I am using Unity, Gnome 2.32, and Xfce DE. Since 11.04 came out I have tried it with Unity, Gnome 3, Gnome 2.32 and Now Xfce. I have two internal hard drives and one USB hard drive that I use for testing. The two internal hd are running 10.10 and gnome 2.32 and the other running 11.04 and Unity. The USB hd now has 11.04 and Xfce.
After trying 11.04 with Unity and 11.04 with Gnome 3, I find them both designed wrong. They are very clumsy to use. (To many mouse movements and clicks) To many things need to be open and to many things to search for. I spend more time trying to do simple things that use to take me seconds to do in gnome 2.32.
Now that Gnome 3 is out, I believe gnome 2.32 is going away so I am looking for other avenues to go in. I have tried fedora and suse, but don't like the RPM's and there package manager. A few years ago I tried Xfce but liked gnome better.
This morning I decided to install it on a USB drive and give it a test drive. I find I really like it because I do things in seconds again. Things are easy to find and there is some things that are a lot like gnome 2.32. And one of the biggest things I like is it is so customisable. Also it boots very fast even from a USB drive. I believe I will be going to it as my main DE. I always liked Ubutnu and have use it since 2005 so I am glad I can stay with it even though I do not like or plan to use Unity or Gnome 3 in the future. This doesn't mean I will not change my mind, but as of now I do not like either one. Let see what will happen with the 11.10 release. Here are a few screen shots of 11.04 and Xfce.
I messed up my desktop by playing with settings in compiz while i was in unity desktop. The problem happened when i was checking and unchecking features for the cube function. After messing with those i have no menu and no sidebar cant access anything with keyboard shortcuts cant bring up a terminal. The only thing that exists are a few shortcuts to files on desktop. Running 11.04. BTW classic and all others work fine.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently update my ubuntu to 11.04 and try some compiz tricks but while i am testing i close unity somehow and now on i cannot start it again. Although i checked it in compiz manager it does not work, also some other new features do not work too like grid feature. I also try to start it by terminal but it says "it is already working". Is there any solution to start unity and its features again?
