Fedora :: Config Automount Process To Put All My Usb Devices In Write-back Mode As Default

I am looking for info about how works automount process, and i didn't find info about the tollowing ...
I wonder ... how can i do to "config" automount process to put all my usb devices in write-back mode as default ... for example ... what file can i change? ... how to do it ?
And another one ... um... how to say to "automount process" ... to put my usb devices into a "deadline" io scheduler .. for example ... how to set io-scheduler for an automount device ?
I managed with fstab but at restart came a black screen.I have called an HD '7200' then I reinstalled Fedora. And it does not automount it anymore. I changed fstab and black screen.
I don't have an opportunity to check it out now... Does Debian 6 testing mount inserted CDs/Flash-drives automatically like Ubuntu does? Or the only way to mount them after inserting is to use mount command?
Since I created second user USB devices as PTP camera, flash mass storage automounts always for the new user. Even the second user is not logged in automount does not work for main user. When I log in as second user (with device plugged in) it is mounted automatically after log in.
What can I do with this problem? I would like to access devices from each user (not necessarily at the same time). How can I configure it? How can I "remount" device to my current user without switching into the second one (it's someones else account)?
When a USB device is attached to the laptop 10.04 does not automount the device. i.e. the device, be at an external drive, memory stick or iPod does not display with the correct icon on the desktop.
However, if one looks under Places|Computer there they all are with the correct icons. The devices can then be mounted from there.

This is really disappointing given that 10.04 was promoted on its iPod friendliness!

I'm running Ubuntu Server 11.04 with OpenSSH, trying to create an ssh tunnel (for web traffic) to it from my (also Ubuntu) laptop. This is the command I'm using to create the tunnel:

I've Googled and AllowTcpForwarding is set to yes, as is X11Forwarding.. but it still doesn't work. Chrome can connect to the server, but says the connection was closed before any data was sent.
I'm curious as to why system-config-services is not installed by default in Fedora 13. IMO it's a pretty important tool for managing a system. I checked the release notes but could not find any mention of its removal.
There seems to be no documentation on how to automount partitions and USB devices under systemd in Jessie. (Overall, systemd entirely lacks any useful documentation or GUI configuration tools -- all very cryptic and hidden.)
I created custom files to enable automounting. I put them in /etc/systemd/system -- this may not be the right place, but it works.
Kernel note: This does not work under the old Wheezy kernel linux-image-3.2.0-4.
To automount my Windows partition so I can access its files, I created: /etc/systemd/system/media-windows.mount
The name of the file must match the mount point -- in this case, /media/windows
My file notes the device and file type, plus an fmask option so all the Windows files don't seem to be executable:

The file ownership must be root.root. Apparently it doesn't need to be executable.
After creating, enable with:
sudo systemctl enable media-windows.mount
and it will mount on the next boot.
I read elsewhere that the before running the enable command you should run a start command:
When I first installed ubuntu 10.10, the display was for some reason tinted green and shifted a few inches to the right. After experimenting with the resolution preferences, I eventually got it to a large resolution (1280x720 ... or something like that) yet is was quite blurry. I found out that the problem was with my monitor after I switched it to TV mode, then back to PC mode. It became perfectly clear! All I had to do then was adjust the screen positioning by shifting it left a bit.
Even though I have made the resolution I figured out to be default, whenever I turn the PC on after shutting down, it goes back to the "green-and-to-the-side" mode. :/ Ain't really a big problem, until I tried to fiddle with the resolution preferences s'more.
Somehow, I have set it to be twice as wide of the maximum my monitor can display, went back to being green tinted for some reason, and is completely shifted left (yet the right side is still visible) This means that I cannot see what is going on the left side, and cannot adjust the resolution preferences, nor can I click blindly cuz the border is only around my visible side of the screen. Now it is stuck like this.
I've researched many hours and eventually found the terminal command for the resolution preferences. it popped up on the visible side. Although it was to no avail cuz I HAVE TRIED EVERY SETTING AND OPTION and absolutely nothing changed. I assume a system restore would simply revert it back to the previous satisfactory settings, but the thing is I want to FIX it. I am new to this terminal stuff, so I want to learn it and all that. To put it simply, here's what I want:
Learn how to manually adjust resolution without depending on a simple dialog box. Make the satisfactory resolution default and consistent through turning it on and off. Link that could teach me the essential commands, all this googling is stressful. D:

My problem: When plugging in a pen drive it will be automounted, but only root (who owns it) has write access to it. Other users only have write access. (Neither my user, nor an unmodified test user)
My aim: I want to be able to write on my pendrive without any additional manual work after plugging it in (iirc that is default on a standard ubuntu install).
Possible causes: I once had a time where I wanted everthing to be minimal. Might be, that I removed something in connection with my problem. I reinstalled everything that came to my mind and could be connected to that problem w/o success. I merely removed stuff than editing stuff (never touched /etc/fstab or /etc/udev/rules.d/*). S So I think I am missing some kind of service, that manages my (user?) permissions or so.
I use: Ubuntu 10.04 (initially a kubuntu but I remove nearly everything Qt/KDE stuff) fluxbox (but most gnome services are active).
I tried/checked: check my automount setting[1] - did not change the behaviour media_automount - is checked media_automount_open - is checked usbmount - is installedntfs-config - did not help (even after reboot) manual mount[2] - worked, but i don't want to do that everytime I plug in a pendrive gksudo users-admin (made sure that amongs others the following entries are checked) Access external storage devices automatically Administer the system Mount user-space filesystems (FUSE)
I didn't try: chmod - seems to be only used for ext* fs edit /etc/fstab - seems not to be supposed for such variable things like pendrives - changing file systems for same pendrive - different number of pen drives - every pendrive needs its own fstab entry udev rules - I was told to write some, but I am reluctant because- I never did that before (so I also didn't mess them up)

A couple of weeks ago, my CD/DVD drive stopped working. I'd put in a disk, the light would flash, but it wouldn't appear as a mounted drive. Thinking the drive had finally died, I bought a new one. Same problem.
The drive is recognized by BIOS. I have it as try to mount first in BIOS, and if I put in the Ubuntu boot CD, it boots.
If I put

into /etc/fstab, and then mount -a, the drive contents appear and are accessible. However, as expected, the system chokes on boot if there isn't a CD in the drive, and I have to mount -a manually every time I start the system. Ugly.
So this is pretty clearly a software OS problem. how I can get the automount for my CD/DVD drive back?
I'm running CentOS-plus V5.5.CDs automount fine, but DVDs don't. I can, however, mount DVDs manually.I have scoured the web without seeing a solution. Its also clear that the software or process used by the OS to automount a DVD, has changed in the last few CentOS versions. So now I would like to ask:,In V5.5, what is the current process or software used by the OS for automatically mounting media such as a CD or DVD?What configuration files are involved that allow a CD to be mounted, and what entry(ies) would be needed to automount a DVD?
my question is simple and yet in true linux fashion the answer eludes my best google searches.
i accidentally removed my taskbar from the bottom of my Fedora 11 KDE desktop. after messing around with it i was able to get a working panel using the add panel feature, but i dont like it.
how do i restore my KDE desktop to the Leonidas default that it installs with?
I tried changing my Theme via MAC4LIN and it didnt work i get an error messege that shows:

Previous to this i had tried installing KDM but it didnt appear to do anything (as in change any of the display management settings) The guide that i was reading to install MAC4LIN just uses GDM so i decided not to pursue KDM anymore. I Get the following read out:

The goal is to set all my GDM settings back to normal so i can have that gdm.conf file. Anyone know a way to set the GDM back and repair any damage ive done?
I'm using Debian Squeeze XFCE along with Windows 7 as dual boot on my notebook. I want to access my Windows 7 partitions from Debian for both reading and writing. I was a Ubuntu user in which the Windows partitions were visible by default. I want to know how to mount the drives used by Windows 7 automatically on startup.
im using Debian (lenny) with 2.6.26 kernel, I'm trying to write udev rules in order to automount my usb pendrive, so I added this rules in udev:

I use pmount to install the device as normal user If i connect my device to the usb port I don't see nothing in /media/penna128M, BUT giving at the prompt cat /etc/mtab the last line is:
I have 4 machines; all multiboot. I want each machine to have full rw access to file shares on each other machine, AND, full rw access to the other partitions on the same machine home folder for UNbooted OS's. I imagine Samba will NOT handle all these configurations? What else do I have to do, so that, for example, if I have 2 machines on, and I boot up a third machine in another room, it will auto mount the other 2 machines' shares, and it export it's own shares to the other 2 machines? I want also each machine to have full rw access to shares on the UNbooted partitions of each machine.
I have an older PC that was running F11 without any problems. At some point I started updating to F12 through the web and got a a nice black screen that pretty much hosed my OS. (Not a big deal).So I went and downloaded the F12 Live CD which did the same thing.., at some point just after install the screen would be black and reset is the only option.Got the full F12 32-bit DVD and during the installation I get: "X Startup Failed,Falling back to text mode."Finishing the install I get to a nice black log-in prompt so I can log-in as root.From there I cant do much as I am a n00d in Linux to some extent and my network doesn't work
My video card is a Geforce FX 5200 which installed and worked just fine under F11 (without me doing anything but basic install and Ubuntu 9.10)
I am installing fedora 15 in vmware 7.1.4.It tells me "Gnome3 failed to load and started in the fall back mode" when accessed in live-cd.Ever since fedora 15 beta or any other distros take gnome3 as default destop,I haven't experienced a beautiful normal gnome3
We've just set up 3 Dell systems with 64 bit Red Hat Enterprise Workstation 5. As part of our system configuration we point the user authentication to our LDAP server, and automount people's home directories from our fileserver. At this point, our security people do some configuration and we get it back.
We are typically running KDE. On all three machines, when you plug a USB stick into the system, the familiar window pops up asking you what you want to do - open the contents in some program, open a file viewer, etc. and the stick shows up in /media When you stick a CD or DVD into the drive nothing happens - you don't get the options window and nothing appears in /media I'm trying to get an idea of how the automount process works, and where I may have stepped on it. We've got three more identical machines that haven't been installed yet, so my plan is to check the ability to automount CDs at various stages of our setup process.
A while back I had to install an extra yum rpm repository to my CentOS 5 server as I needed newer versions of httpd (v2.2. and php (v5.1.6) than were in the default repositories at the time.
I now wish to revert back to the standard repositories, I have removed reference to the custom repository from etc/yum.repos.d/ and used '# yum clean all' but cannot seem update these packages when I use '# yum update'.
Is there a way of making the rpm packages for httpd and php go back to using the standard repos, or will I have to manual update them from now on?
Or could I uninstall those rpms and reinstall from default repo without breaking the whole server?
I recentled upgraded all the packages on my server and now I have an issue where I can't get any thing to install or uninstall do to errors, This is what I get:
I know there are gigatons of information in the Internet about Flash automounting in Linux, but I can't find the right one. So I've been a Gnome-user for about a year now and got used to its automount system - I connect the Flash-drive and Gnome mounts it automatically to /media with its label (which is important). The same with CDs/DVDs so I always was getting something like:
Now I'm switching to Fluxbox and can't configure exactly the same automounting system.
Everytime I open Konqueror, it opens in "Embedded Text Editor" mode . So if I open it then click on a bookmark, it opens in edit mode. I can select View->View Mode->khtml and then the page displays properly. If I click on a link from that page, it displays properly. If I open a new tab, it is back to edit mode. If I open konqueror from konsole, it has the same behavior. I have removed all files under ~/.kde that mention konqueror, kong_* or kfmclient.
I checked the menu entry for Konqueror, and it is "kfmclient openProfile web browsing". I have set the view mode properly, then manually saved the profile in Konqueror. I have checked the system settings file associations, and the konqueror entry has the same application command (kfmclient) as the kde menu entry. Does anyone know how to make the view mode "stick" for Konqueror such that when clicking on html urls or selecting bookmarks causes Konqueror to display properly?
