Hardware :: CD/DVD/Flash Automount Like In Gnome By Default

Apr 1, 2011

I know there are gigatons of information in the Internet about Flash automounting in Linux, but I can't find the right one. So I've been a Gnome-user for about a year now and got used to its automount system - I connect the Flash-drive and Gnome mounts it automatically to /media with its label (which is important). The same with CDs/DVDs so I always was getting something like:

Now I'm switching to Fluxbox and can't configure exactly the same automounting system.

Fedora :: Automount USB Flash Drive -noatime ?

Oct 17, 2009

After searching the boards, I dug through the udev man pages and rule files looking for a way to modify the default automount options for USB flash drives. Apparently, the options are somewhere else. Is there a simple way to add noatime to the default mount options?

Currently, the flash drive is automounted as follows:

I'm using Fedora 12, beta RC 2 in case that makes a difference.

OpenSUSE Install :: Get A Flash Drive To Automount When Plug In?

Oct 30, 2010

Got an old SUSE box from a friend, installed 11.3, got a few items: 1. didn't see any prompts to enter monitor info during install, control center shows as generic. Read about 'sax2' (hope that's right) but can't find it on my system or in the add-ons image. Do I need to hack monitor.conf? how? 2. installation aborted when trying to load 'textlive'.3. going into control center->mouse, the display quivers a little then I get kicked back out to the login prompt. 4. how to get kaffeine to process flv files? 5. how to get a flash drive to automount when I plug it in? I can manually mount ok. I guess that's about all for now.

Fedora :: Gnome's Automount And Getting A Path?

May 2, 2010

I enjoy the way Gnome automounts devices, such as cameras, thumb drives, and my iphone but it doesn't seem to mount the device in a conventional way that can be accessed by a path in a command prompt.Automounted devices can be configured to Do 'X' every time it is connected (you knew that) which includes specifying a command. I want to rsync the contents of the picture folder every time I drop it in the cradle, but retain the automount that gnome uses.The path used in Nautilus is : gphoto2://[usb:001,008]/DCIM/100APPLEBut that doesn't seem to be useful to me, at least as far as I can see.

Debian Multimedia :: No Automount In GNOME Flashback?

Aug 17, 2015

I'm running Debian 8.1 Jessie on a Dell Latitude D400 using the GNOME Flashback DE. I cannot for the life of me figure out why it doesn't automout my USB drives and CD/DVDs.The regular GNOME and GNOME Classic will automount no problem but Flashback will not. It shows up in Nautilus but I have to mount it manually through Nautilus. I checked in dconf Editor under org/gnome/desktop/media-handling and automount IS checked. So I can't figure out why its not automounting.

Is there a way to fix that so Flashback will automount my CD/DVDs and USB drives or is it just a bug in Flashback that I gotta wait to get fixed?I've already searched the forum and Google to no avail but its possible I didn't use the right searh terms in Google.

Fedora :: USB Automount On GNOME - Ext3 Drive

Nov 26, 2009

I have two USB drives, one with ext3, and the other w/vfat. On my new Fedora 12 installation, GNOME properly automounts the vfat drive on insertion. However, it applies a wrong command to mount the ext3 one. The end result is that the ext3 drive appears in /etc/mtab but, unlike vfat, is inaccessible to non-power user.

The mtab is: /dev/sdb1 /media/918fb656-8efc-43b5-bdfd-0bd8004deeba ext3 rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=devkit 0 0
/dev/sdb1 /media/49C6-1901 vfat rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=devkit,uid=500,gid=500,sho rtname=mixed,dmask=0077,utf8=1,flush 0 0

Somehow GNOME misses the uid=500,gid=500,shortname=mixed,dmask=0077,utf8=1, flush portion of the mount command when mounting the ext3 drive.

Ubuntu :: Customize Default Gnome Menus Bar?

May 9, 2011

I would like to edit my gnome menus bar so that it has 6 icons on it that point directly to different app's - the idea is that these settings are stored into /etc/skel so that each time a new user is created it will contain the custom apps on the bar that i added earlier

cp -r /home/myusername/.gconfd /etc/skel
cp -r /home/myusername/.gnome2 /etc/skel

this works in as much if i remove the (menu Bar) panel from the menus bar then on new users being created that is cloned, great i thought i have sust it, but now adding the shortcut's to the bar and going through the same above process it is still a blank bar the icons are not shown.

are the icon references stored somewhere else am i missing a directory that i need to copy ?

Debian :: Set Default Character Encoding In Gnome-terminal?

Dec 30, 2010

I try to change the default character encoding in gnome-terminal. I want to use UTF8, but every gnome-terminal i start uses "ANSIX3.4-1968".

In the menu, when i go in Terminal => Set character encoding i have a list with two items:
[x] Current Locale (ANSIX3.4-1968)
[ ] Unicode (UTF-8)

I don't know why the first item appears, i have another debian box and it has only the UTF-8 encoding available. I cannot remove the first item in "add or remove" sub menu !! Probably because it is related to "current locale"

Here is the output of "locale", if it can helps:
boulzor@antec:~$ locale
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8"
