Fedora :: Automatic Start Stop Script For Oracle 11g?
Aug 28, 2010
i finished installing oracle 11g r2 with EM but i cant find any good script that will close the database completely before rebooting they all start it correctly but for the shutdown they don't wait and the database restart in recovery mode
I have installed Oracle 11g on 5.3. Now, I am trying to START and STOP oracle automatically on system startup and shutdown. I am following this link To have this effect, I have created /etc/init.d/dbora
Currently using oracle 9i with 3 database(maindb, arist, samp) in redhat 5.3 server .I want to stop 2 database "maindb" and "samp" manually ( in XP or Vista we can stop service oraclemaindb and oraclesamp ), but in redhat i dont know how to stop services and how to see currently running oracle services.
i am installing oracle database 10g2 in my fedora12 with the help of this link ORACLE-BASE - Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1) Installation On Fedora 7 (F7)Now i am start my Database using sqlplus:[oraclelocalhost ~]$ sqlplusSQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Thu Sep 16 10:53:47 2010Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. I am trying to give access to ONE single user to start and shutdown tomcat server. The problem being, when I enter syntax: username ALL= /etc/init.d/tomcat5, /usr/local/tomcat/webapps, PASSWD:ALL This gives the user access to start and stop tomcat but also gives user access to start and stop other services within /etc/init.d - such as httpd etc... What is the proper way to give user access to start and stop service, and limiting that power to only one service....
Seems like the latest Kernel (2.6.40-4.fc15.i686) update screwed with my setup a little bit.
This is what happened:
I had about 100 updates to my F15 pending in my taskbar's update notifier. I let the system update itself. Reboot and desktop effects don't work. Takes a long time to open up Dolphin. electricsheep (OpenGL screen saver) doesn't work.
I'm assuming it's a problem with OpenGL or my nvidia video drivers which I tried reinstalling from mjmwired's guide.
That didn't fix anything.
I'm looking for a point in the right direction or a way to revert back to my previous state before the system updated everything.
I have Windows XP and Linux Mint installed on my laptop.I'd like more than a few seconds to choose which OS I want to run.How do I fix this? Please explain it as if talking to a 6 year old as I'm new to Linux.
Ubuntu restarts every 1 hour and sometimes around 3 am in the morning. It is happening for the past few weeks i didn't find any help for this problem in the net. Please reply if there is any way to find why it is happening or how to stop if from doing an auto reboot
I was lurking about my hidden files and noticed the ".thumbnails" directory. I had been browsing the web for about an hour and had opened some image files from my drive.HOLY CRAP! I had over 2000 thumbnails in that directory! Every time an image is displayed, a thumbnail of it is created? Really? Seriously, I don't care what the reason behind this "feature" is, how do I stop it? It is simply unnecessary and a waste of disk space.
I have several services set to start in init 3 on a cloud provider. The init scripts appear to be in the correct folder but the services are never started after a reboot. I finally watched the console and all the services start correctly then shutdown after a few moments.
I would like to start and stop rtorrent based on my screensaver. I used to do this awhile ago with ubuntu and still have my script. However now I am using Fedora with KDE and the script no longer seems to work.
#!/usr/bin/perl #gnome my $cmd = "dbus-monitor --session "type='signal',interface='org.gnome.ScreenSaver',member='SessionIdleChanged'""; open (IN, "$cmd |"); while (<IN>) { if (m/^s+boolean true/) { #when screensaver activates, run the following commands #system("/home/eric/compiled/scripts/rtorrentstart"); system("touch /home/asoukenka/rtorrenthasstarted"); } elsif (m/^s+boolean false/) { #when screensaver deactivates, run the following commands #system("kill `pgrep rtorrent`"); system("touch /home/asoukenka/rtorrenthasbeenkilled"); } } Old Post [URL].

I got my problem with KDE Desktop. I'm using openSUSE 11.2 and KDE 4.4, when I make updates to my YaST repositories. I am a full file system usage in. / then I delete the file / var / tmp, because large files up to 4 GB. KDE Desktop then I could not run ranymore.
I was googling and found KDE/KDE4 - openSUSE when I try to execute this command:
kbuildsycoca4 kquitapp plasma-desktop> / dev / null 2> & 1 kstart plasma-desktop &> / dev / null 2> & 1
KDE Desktop can run normally but does not like the first time before the crash. And my KDE Desktop not automatic start.
Where an i found log from KDE DEsktop. I had searched on /var/log/messages, /var/log/kdm.
And how the best solution if I want to restore OPensuse.?

I've AMD64 system with Ubuntu 11.04 installed. It's been rough ride for me to install oracle-xe-universal. I've already spent more than 2 days on this. Still unsuccessful.
1) First I downloaded the packages libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb and oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb
(gave me dependency error for libc6 (>= 2.3.2), I modified the control file to remove dependency and rebuilt the package) (now worked fine) Oracle xe is now installed. Then I tried to start the DB it started but it's HTTP client never started. So I decided to uninstall the oracle-xe=universal. None of the sudo apt-get remove oracle-xe-universal command's didn't worked for me. So i went for manual uninstallation directions as per oracle link.
rocky@ubuntu:~/git/mygit/edas2/libaio$ sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb dpkg: warning: overriding problem because --force enabled: package architecture (i386) does not match system (amd64)
[code]....
Even in applications menu I don't see the if oracle has been installed. So i conclude first time installation was ok but somehow http client didn't worked. After manual uninstallation, second installation didn't even loaded/installed the oracle-xe in init.d directory.
If I understand correctly Ubuntu does not allow a wifi connection until a user loges in. That makes it so that prey (see preyproject.com) cannot send notices until someone has logged onto Ubuntu.what I would like to do (but I have no clue how) is to set up a user account that automatically, in the background, logs on at start up. Then this little user login would establish any Internet connection that is possible (wifi or lan) and start the program 'prey'. This should all be totally transparent to the user that would just see the regular log in screen.
to avoid automatic start of this mail server (I use qmail). After several months, I did a reboot and exim is started! Looking at the history, I found this command:
Quote: dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config
Maybe this command has restored the init script of exim?
