Mar 15, 2011Somehow I got libjpeg out of my system, and can't get it back working. I have installed jpeg-8b package, applications installed by it work, but not "system-wide" support for jpeg. Eg. I can use "cjpeg", but Eye of Gnome (image viewer) gives me "Unrecognized image file format" error.
Could you please point me to some right solution? Where does Debian look for this library?

Dec 6, 2009I'm running PyMOL version 1.2r2 on Fedora 12 with python2.6.
Only for a second or two will molecular models display correctly in the PyMOL viewer, and then the image becomes distorted. As I rotate the model, it displays correctly, but then almost immediately after I stop moving the model, it becomes distorted again.
The attached images show the display before and after the distortion.
This is some of the information that the PyMol program prints as it loads.

I use for the output a nice USB DAC that seems to run very good with Ubuntu and Windows, strangely with Fedora isn't the same. Aug 29, 2009I am running latest fc11. the startup sound (desktop-login.ogg) always plays distorted. it plays a chord or two, slight pause, plays another chord, etc.. skips about as much as it plays. i found if i run canberra-gtk-play with the ogg file from a terminal, it plays fine. i changed it to play /usr/share/sounds/startup3.wav, but it also plays distorted during startup. plays fine from a terminal or thru natilus. i have installed the pulse-audio through the "perfect" guide.

Nov 19, 2009New build to F12. Sound was fine in F11. Now, massive distortion. I have tried every possible permutation of settings. With the main volume control in the top taskbar, there are two positions of level setting where the audio drops to a normal level and sounds OK but any application changing the level or starting to use the Pulseaudio changes the level and its loud and massively distorted again.
In the Pulseaudio manager->sink->alsaoutput.pci-0000-00-11.5.analog-stereo -> properties-> show volume meter, the audio is always maxed out in level. I have tried everything, its unworkable right now. Its possible to start alsamixer from terminal and adjust settings for good audio but any future change reverts to distortion. All changes in Pulseaudio Dev mgr or vol control etc change the audio as they should but do not affect the problem.

Mar 27, 2011Graphics is getting distorted whenever I move windows along the screen. This happened soon after I installed KDE desktop and compiz fusion on my pc. I am having 1GB ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 54 graphics card (Seems like that was the problem). The first fix that I tried: Installed qt-devel compat-libstdc++-33 and then created an xorg.conf file by installing system-config-display and edited the file to include radeon under drivers then restarted --> this didnt work Compiled ATI drivers for linux ---> this also dint work However, I can view the o/p clearly when I type glxgears Seems like the issue is with this. But I donno how to change this

When I run the above command, the o/p includes direct rendering: yes" and also various OpenGL information concerning for "Mesa" but not for "ATI Technologies" I am facing this issue on KDE as well as Gnome.. In KDE, if I check activate Desktop graphics then I would get automatically logged out. In gnome if I select "Desktop Effects" then I get a message "3D acceleration not supported".

Jan 14, 2009Im trying to install Fedora 10 on to my HP Pavilion a340a (full product specifications: [url] ), i boot from the cd and it says "Automatic boot in 10 seconds..." etc, i get past that screen and am then at a screen with 2 shades of blue and a white bar moving at the bottem of the screen towards the words "Fedora 10", on the next screen, the log on screen, all the text is jumbled up and distorted, and everything appears frozen, except that i can move the mouse. I am not sure what the problem is but i know its not the cd because after having problems with hp pc i decided to try it on my Acer Extensa 2300 laptop (1.5ghz, 1.2gb ram, 40gb hdd, 32mb intel integrated graphics) and that installed fine, without a problem. This has led me to beleive that Fedora may not be liking the intel graphics on my HP Pavilion, and i dont know why. i really want to use Fedora 10 on my desktop. I should mention that i want to dual boot Windows XP and Fedora 10 on Pavilion, windows is already installed.

Jul 26, 2010I am running Linux from a DVD, not installed. I am not good with installing software, but since the DVD cannot be corrupted, I am content to operate this way. Lately, I have been having problems that previously did not occur. When I try to click on the checkbox to get rid of emails, it doesn't register in most cases, or when it does, I am clicking multiple times so it registers twice, meaning it is unchecked again. Even more frustrating is some issues that are affecting my ability to update my business. I am trying to modify spreadsheets (text not calculations).
Whenever I try to click & drag to select something to change, it keeps jumping around to select only some of what I want, something else or some combination of the 2. When I try to copy and paste several fields from 1 column to another, everything from the several fields in the source column ends up together in the last field in the target column. I am also trying to download some images from a website. There is a single column of links to the images. I have to click on the link to get to the image in order to copy it, then back out to continue looking for more links to do the same.
My computer keeps jumping back 2 steps, then forward 2 steps, and sometimes I lose my place in that list. I could deal with it if it were a small number of links, but this is a list of probably close to 20,000 links. Again, i am operating off of a live DVD so this should not be corruptible, but this has just started happening, and has been an issue the last several sessions.

The problem with this is that each image is then stretched to fit on one page, whereas I would like to keep the original dimensions of the images and put as many as possible on one page in the PDF file before moving on to another page.

Sep 21, 2009I am just spent half an hour hunting for a thing that should be totally available already:USB install images of Ubuntu, knoppix and all the others.And, the only good way are so far complicated tutorials where you extract the stuff from an CD image. Why??Hasn't everybody notices that CDs/DVDs are vanishing big time? That more and more systems don't have the readers anymore? Instead of following a 10 point instruction list, it would be nice to just be able to download a Ubuntu 8.10 or whatever USB image and be able to beam that DIRECTLY to a USB stick with a dd command.
Or am a missing something here? Does this exist?It should by no means be mariginal, considering how important USB stick in specific and flash memory in general have become.

Aug 15, 2010I'm looking for a way to convert .wav/.cue file pairs to their respective tracks in flac format, with ID3 tags from the .cue file. Preferably I would like to be able to do this in such a way that the new tracks would be copied to the appropriate %Artist%/%Album%/%trackno% %title%.flac location. Back in the days when I would go out of the car and back in when it didn't work, I would mount the .cue/wav file pair with Alcohol52, and use Windows Media Player to do the rest of the ripping for me. I'd like to be able to do something similar in Fedora.
I've looked around, but most threads talk about cuebreakpoints and shnsplit. Surely, I could do the job with those, but then I'd need to rename the files manually, copy them to the correct location manually, and input the ID3 data manually. This is very time consuming, and I'm trying at all costs to avoid this. I've already called Google several times, but his phone is turned off. How could I do the conversion in an automated way, preferably without going to Mr. terminal's office?

Jul 15, 2009I have a problem with images showing up as black boxes in konqueror, firefox, galeon, etc. I originally thought the problem was Firefox related, so I updated and the problem is still there.
I can't find anything with search that matched this exactly, so if I overlooked.
It seems to me that any time an image is re-sized it shows up as a black box. If I look at a wallpaper that's large, say 1200 x 800 or something, and the browser tries to resize it, it comes up black. However, if I click the same image and it returns to it's actual size, it looks perfect, as it should.
I look at a website I have to individually view each image and this is beginning to drive me crazy!
I have an Acer 5515 Laptop, with a ATI Express X1200 graphics card. I have taken a snapshot of when it happens.

Jul 15, 2010ok, so im pretty mad right now, i've tried to download the iso image of fedora 13 twice today and just to get the same error on both, it says the file is corrupted or it has been altered, the checksum isn't correct, so is it a problem with fedora or what? i downloaded both from their website. what can i do? i don't want to try just to get the same result.i finally got the iso ok, the solution? downloaded it on window$.
