CentOS 5 :: Cannot Compile PHP With GD JPEG Support
Oct 8, 2009
I've successfully compiled and installed PHP to run with nginx. But I could not use some jpeg functions from GD library. I've checked for libjpeg-devel and gd-devel and found that they had been installed, libjpeg.so is located at /usr/lib This is my configure command:
./configure --with-config-file-path=/etc/php --with-config-file-scan-dir=/etc/php/conf.d --disable-pdo --with-openssl --with-pcre-regex --without-sqlite3 --with-zlib --enable-bcmath --with-bz2 --enable-calendar --with-curl --with-curlwrappers --enable-exif --with-gd --with-jpeg-dir=/usr/lib --with-png-dir=/usr/lib --with-freetype-dir=/usr/lib --enable-gd-native-ttf --enable-gd-jis-conv --with-gettext --with-mhash --enable-intl --enable-mbstring --with-mcrypt --with-mysql --with-mysql-sock --enable-soap --enable-sockets --with-xsl --enable-zip
phpinfo() shows that gd is enabled with GIF and PNG supports but without JPEG.

Does linux support images in .jpeg format? What is the difference if I save my image in .jpeg or .JPEG or .jpg from a linux point of view? Is this case sensitive?

I'm building my slackware system from a minimal set of packages. I've got X and fluxbox up and running, and I'm trying to "slack-build" feh which depends on imlib2 to set background wallpapers. The problem is trying to "feh" any image gives the error message:
Code:

I've been trying to find a way to take a bunch of jpeg images and while maintaining their quality (no loss at all) compile them in such a way as to make one coherent file. Maybe something like a pdf, but while maintaining quality. I've tried converting to pdf and djvu, but the quality is always reduced, but if you know of a way to preserve quality, I'll use it.An alternative is an image viewer that can look inside archives, so I just make a zip or tgz of the images and then use the image viewer to access them. I've tried a few

I am trying to install an Open GL screen saver "EulerTop-1.2" and I get the following error message when I run configure - "checking for perl /usr/bin/perl checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.2) (library qt-mt) not found. For more details about this problem, look at the end of config.log. Make sure that you have compiled Qt with thread support!" It appears to be installed -
vance@linux-i4xo:/> rpm -q qt3
qt3-3.3.8b-93.1.x86_64
how does one enable thread support? I have looked around the web but cannot find a solution.

The sysytem I use is Debian Squeeze. what's wrong but jackd2 from debian official repositories does not work with alsa (I have alsa-base, alsa-tools, libaudio-dev, libaudiofile-dev and libasound2-dev installed). Now I downloaded fresh jackd2 source from sourceforge and when I try to "./waf -configure" it it says that there is no alsa package or it's too old in the system and configures itself without alsa support.

One of those odd things I learned the hard way is that if you are writing a shared object (library/.so) and any programs that will link to that library uses floating point numbers, the library must be compiled as if it uses floating point numbers. What that really means is, you need to declare at least one float in the source for the library or when the caller connects and tries to run code in the library, the process aborts.I end up putting a float pi (3.1415); in the code and getting an unused variable warning all the time. There has to be a simpler way, some flag to pass to g++ that says, "include floating point support even if you don't really need to."
p.s. Gosh I hope I remembered this correctly. I encountered this problem doing a multi-platform build for Windows and Linux. This COULD be a VC++ problem that I just carried into Linux by using the same source.

I'm a Windows admin who does part time Linux server installs. Most of the time I'm asked to deploy a generic Windows server, install a few basic applications and if needed some other applications like Nagios or Zabbix. My question is for long term support, or patching should I be focusing on deploying with repositories to install applications or compile from source? In the Windows world you can patch and update from Windows Update, but is there problems using 3rd party repositories for future updates? Would one of these locations go off line?

I try to set up a 5 nodes cluster and a shared Coraid Storage with conga but it fails with "Shared Storage Support" checked. The message is:'A problem occurred when installing packages: Packages of set "Clustered Storage" are not present in available repository' and it is shown under every node on the next sceen after I submit. The pc where conga runs is on the same subnet (192.168.xxx.xxx) and it has the same /etc/hosts of the other nodes. In that pc runs a proxy too and the nodes go out through it (that pc has 2 NICs)Every node (2.6.18-128.1.14.el5-xen-x86_64) is patched whith the last yum update (this morning) the same is for the pc (2.6.18-128.1.14.el5).Every node has 4 NICs , 2 NICc towards the storage the others in bonding towards the WAN.Every node is exactly alike, they have been installed with the ks.cfg generated from the first node and they all have the support for Clustering, Virtualization, and Clustered Storage.

I am running a CentOS 5.5 system which does NOT support VT Technology, so I am unable to use Xen HV. I am very happy with OpenVZ other than the fact that it doesn't support Windows, only Linux.I'd like to have VMWare Server 2.x installed, but it appears that OpenVZ changes the Kernel to, in my case, 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5.028stab069.6. The default kernel on my system is 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5.i386.If I change grub to load 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5.i386, VMWare will work but OpenVZ will not. If I change grub to load 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5.028stab069.6, OpenVZ will work, but VMWare will not.If I try to run /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl while in the 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5.028stab069.6 kernel, I get an error of:
None of the pre-built vmmon modules for VMware Server is suitable for your running kernel. Do you want this program to try to build the vmmon module for your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)?Using compiler "/usr/bin/gcc". Use environment variable CC to override.
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel?[/usr/ src/ linux/ include]I'm so lost as what to do now..is there anyway I can compile both of the kernels together somehow?

Will Redhat support CentOS under any circumstances? I have heard at my employer that if you setup you system with CentOS and then on down the line you find you need RHEL support that you can purchase a license from Redhat and they will support your CentOS installation. Is that an official policy at Redhat? Unofficial? Or completely untrue?

I have an issue with a specific piece of hardware running an Asterisk PBX. Basically it freezes at some times. I've noticed its running an SMP kernel (Centos 5.4), and i'm hoping i can disable this/recompile kernetl without SMP support. How can i do this?
It's running a VIA C7 cpu.
Code:
[root@localhost asterisk-1.4.29]# cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
vendor_id : CentaurHauls
cpu family : 6
[Code]....
How can i disable SMP, and see if its maybe this tha'ts causing the problems?
I have tried appending nosmp or maxcpus=0 and noreplace-smp to the kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst,but it keeps loading the smp kernel....

Has anyone successfully compiled VLC 1.0.0-rcX (rc1, rc2 or rc3) from source on CentOS 5? I have a binary installation of VLC 0.9 but I would like VLC 1.0 as it has a new codec that I'd like to use. I've tried lots of ideas which I can post - I keep getting build errors due to wrong package versions - but I thought I'd ask to see if anybody has a HOWTO first.
