Ubuntu Installation :: 11.04 Freezes / Mouse And Status Bar Won't Movie?
Jun 22, 2011
So I'm installing Ubuntu for the first time ever and installing it in place of Windows XP (I'm taking the plunge).Everything seems to have gone fine, but now it's stuck. My mouse won't movie, the status bar doesn't move, nothing. The status bar is currently about 90% or the way full, and states 'Installing System.'Do I need to manually restart my computer and start over? Or should it fix itself if I leave it long enough?

I'm new to Ubuntu but I installed Ubuntu 11.04 with no problems. I activated the recommended drivers for my laptop. My laptop is: Acer Aspire 7540G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 video card and AMD Athlon II X2 processor. So the problems comes very very often. I watch videos on fullscreen or I leave them playing in ...... While playin a video the laptop just freezes. Everything stops working. I think this problems comes up may be every 30-40 minutes of watching a movie. I'm not a fan of holding the shut down button for 10 seconds every 40 minutes so I'll be very grateful if someone helps. I've removed Syn to Vblank from the CompizConfig because otherwise Ubuntu runs really slow on my computer and the videos are playing very slow and with very bad quality. When i removed it everything began to run faster but now I've this problem with the freezing... Any ideas ?

time ago when KDE 3.5 was still "the hype" konqueror file browser used to show a image of a frame of the video files when the mouse was over a selected video file.Is it possible to enable/install this functionality on Dolphin or the neutered Konqueror in KDE4?

1) check if a mouse button is pressed down. I need to check this status of mouse button again and again inside a loop. Depending on the status, some function will be called. OR
2) check if some key of the keyboard is pressed down. I need to check this status of 'key' again and again inside a loop. Depending on the status, some function will be called.
Either of the two above will serve my purpose.
I am using Ubuntu 10.10.

just want to report "Right Mouse Click Freeze" on Ubuntu 10.10. When I click on anything with my right mouse button to open options menu it freezes and does not open menu. Sometimes when I shake my mouse left/right a bit it opens that menu, but this does not work always. It seems like xserver issue, but I'm not sure since I'm not expert in linux yet. It's very annoying issue that I would like to resolve asap.
My System Specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
Western Digital 250 GB Hard Drive
Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit (Kernel Linux 2.6.35-22)
(Used Desktop Install CD)

I have a Foxconn with Intel 330 processor, 1 gig RAM, and 80 gig hard drive. Unit will freeze when using the mouse at infrequent intervals. I had Edubuntu 8.10 installed and have now installed 10-10 Ubuntu to rule out software issues. During the new install, the video would stop after a period of time, and could return to operation by moving the mouse. The same mouse, keyboard, and monitor are being used on three other computer boxes using a KVM switch. The problem is unique to this Foxconn box. An identical Foxconn box runs normal and is set up as a server
After the unit freezes, I can use the alt-ctr-sysrq RES to eliminate the GUI. This tells me that the Linux system is still running.
What segment of the system log should I be examining? Is this an IRQ issue?

I have recently installed Ubuntu on my desktop. Whenever I log in after approx. 2 minutes the keyboard or mouse (or sometimes both) freezes. The mouse and keyboard are connected via USB and not p2/p. rebooting every 2 min in order to use the OS is not exactly convenient

I just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 using the distro upgrade feature. Everything was upgraded without errors.
However, my mouse/keyboard now freezes after 10+ minutes of use. Both are unresponsive, and the keyboard lights does not change with the use of caps-lock, etc.
The system didn't crash though. I had a download running which was completed despite the mouse/keyboard hang.
The computer is barely usable now, I really wished I didn't upgrade...

I've had these problems ever since upgrading to 10.10Boot up goes nowhere unless I touch the trackpad or keyboard. My clock says it's 10:00am but it's three in the afternoon, so I'm always having to resync with NTP. Music and video stutters with playback unless I touch the trackpad.I'm on a Toshiba NB205 netbook. These are pretty big problems. And I'm sure I'm not the only one using 10.10. Is there no fix out for this yet?

I have been having some problems with a mouse on my system (amd64 variant). The problem has exhibited both with Karmic and Lucid, even after a clean install of Lucid. have a logictech wireless keyboard and mouse combo. After some time, the mouse just randomlyeezes, although the keyboard is still responsive.I plugged in a second USB (standalone) mouse. It initially worked, but after some time, it also freezes. I attempted to unplug the frozensecond mouse and place into another USB port. When I did, the red light on the bottom of the mouse failed to light up. I then attempted to plug in a third mouse, and it failed to show the light as well. When ssh'ing from another box, I get the following from dmesg:
Code:
[79275.300031] usb 4-1: new low speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 2
[79275.524106] usb 4-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit, GNOME desktop. Previous install (same OS) gave an error when switching users. Did a fresh install, and now the keyboard and mouse freeze. This happens almost every session. I have to force shutdown. Sometimes it happens in 5 minutes, other times it happens in 4 hours. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but the Ubuntu problems are starting to get to me. I really want to use this. I like it, but I'm getting frustrated. 9.10 had wireless problems, and now I'm getting this freezing thing. Both the keyboard and mouse are USB connections. Everything else works when the freeze occurs, i.e., video's still play, web browser is still displaying gifs, etc. Only the mouse and keyboard freeze. All other operations seem normal.

I have been battling this issues for about a year now. Kind of got tired of dealing with it, but inevitably I go away for vacation or something and I lose power at the fort then the system will not come back up on its own.
Every time (100%) I power my system on with the single USB cable connected to it, my system hangs. It did it on 8.x, 9.x and all versions of 10.x. I have asked the questions before, but never get anywhere with it. Finally I have found this Forum and figured out how to ask questions Weird, I know
Anyway.
The system goes through the BIOS check and gets to the GRUB loader. If I do nothing, it hangs with a black screen just after it says that it is loading the kernel.
If I change the kernel commands to include the noacpi=apic or most other common fixes for what I have been told, USB, I get to the same place seemingly.
In reading through the forums and a little testing, I find that if I remove the splash and the quiet commands (obviously snicker), I am able to see where it is really stopping, but does not make sense to me.
The last informational text that appears to be processed is one of
Registered Protocol Family 1
There is nothing in the SYSLOG, MESSAGES or DMESG at all for this boot. I would assume that the system is not to a point where we can log this data
This is an AMD Phenom II x4 running 10.04 64bit Ubuntu. The USB connected device is an Avocent KVM 4 port with Audio and USB.

My work machine crashes 1-3 times a day, and I often lose work. This is getting very frustrating--I've never known a Linux system to be so unstable.
When it freezes, I can still move the mouse around. I believe it's also still doing some background tasks, since files have finished copying before and my music will still be playing, if it was before. But the mouse cursor doesn't change, and it's totally nonresponsive.
The trouble is, I don't know how to diagnose this problem, to tell you something less vague. I might be able to check, to see what's going on? The problem usually comes about when I'm doing something--either loading a new web page, or starting a new program, or even when I just hit a button. Otherwise, I'm just stumped.

Since upgrading to the final version of 64Bit Natty, I have a problem with the mouse randomly freezing, I cannot do anything with it. So far the cure is to press enter, which also sometimes starts a program or logs out, but not all the time. In fact generally it just unfreezes the mouse and I carry on!It is though rather annoying so if there is a solution to this I would appreciate it.It never happened with the Beta versions just the final one!

I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on other machines before and have not experienced this problem. Occasionally, the system will lock up. They keyboard and mouse stop responding (my keyboard status lights no longer respond, but my optical mouse light is still on). I can ssh to the machine, and it seems to work as normal. I kill processes that are open on my desktop through ssh, (i.e., Firefox), and I notice when I switch back, I still have the same frozen image on my screen. I have looked at the following files to determine any issues with the GPU:
