i have installed skype, latest version, however, when i try to open from Applications/internet/skype,,,, it is not opening.... checked to open in terminal,,, given below error....:

I want clicking on the skype desktop icon to open the window of already running instance instead of a new one (like it happens in Window$).I am using Lucid puppy 520.

i am using Fedora 14. Once system get hanged during opening a video file so I had to restart the system by pressing restart button. But after restarting there are few problems appearing like system monitor not opening and Thunder bird opening but not showing any folder including inbox.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded & installed the skype beta release for linux (now ancient?) on my newly build fedora 14 (64) box.
Under fedora 12, I made this work after several hours of mucking around by installing old libraries for 32 bit code in /lib and /usr/lib - as I got an error, I found the library and put it in place. This was painful and the WRONG way to do things - I should have been using yum!
It remains a shame that the Skype release for Linux is so old, but that is life.
Can anyone list the libraries needed (prefer yum names if possible) to make this work?
I can do this again the hard way and list the results for others (should have saved for myself, but I never dreamed that a newer Skype release would take so long) , but I am sure many folks have this working already. I am surprised there is no "yum install skype---" command.
One of the apps I would like to try out is usenext.Selectint the download for the right version (Linux - Suse, Red Hat, Fedora) I get the rpm file.Either opening this straight away or saving then opening it comes back with the following errors:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a IOgear USB bluetooth adapter and a Sony DRBT101/BLK bluetooth headphones to use with my computer.Whenever I try to make a call using these headphones with skype, I can speak for say 10 seconds and then the headset disconnects completely from the system. I then have to reconnect the headset by switching it off and on. I do not have this problem listening to music using A2DP. It works fine with my mobile phone.When I change the profile to Telephony Duplex (HSP/HFP), it shows up as hands free, I thought it should be headset in blueman manager. My friend uses Plantronics headset with is Dell laptop with built in bluetooth and he says his comes up as headset not hands free. Could this be causing the problem?

I cant seem to text via skype, it doesnt go through. I testet the skype test call service and voice works fine, audio and mic. I have tried to google and search forums but no luck. I have before used skype on my netbook with my cellphone as a hot spot and it worked without problem but it doesnt have the same provider - different sim cards in phone and dongle.

how i can say fedora that if a file has a special suffix to open it with a special app?? such as .oct with octave or ...?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI can no longer open TweetDeck either from the desktop shortcut or menu.I tried reinstalling it to see if that would fix it & after install the program ran fine but after shutting it down & trying to restart it from the shortcut icon/menu it says starting but does not complete & would not restart again.The only change to my computer was earlier I had installed Samba to access Vista network shares. Would this be causing a problem opening TweetDeck?Anyone any idea how I might get TweetDeck to work properly?I will keep trying to fix this (tricky when I do not know what the cause is!-I have googled but no reference found yet) but I am most grateful for help(meantime I am using Gwibber to tweet- but I much prefer TweetDeck & would really like it working properly in my dualboot Fedora14).

i used to be able to watch music videos from a local radio station website using firefox and mplayer with fc11. maybe the solution is to upgrade to fc12, since it seems to work fine on the pc with fc12, but maybe the problem is something easy to fix, and i can wait awhile before getting everything up on fc12.. -( also, with fc11, i can play the same videos using a newly installed version of google chrome. i am just trying to find out what causes this type of error and how i can fix it. if i go to www.kzsn.com and select the "on demand" tab, then select a video, i should see mplayer open up and the video play - i don't get the black box and no video, no sound.. as stated above, this works fine using google chrome, or using another pc with fc12. this website also has some videos that play via flashplayer. they also did not play in fc11 with firefox, but i was recently able to get them to work by downgrading to a previous version of shockwave (found that in another post). not sure if this has anything to do with the problem i am having, but thought i would mention it, just in case.. only other thing i can't seem to do with any release of fc (maybe linux in general) is watch movie trailers from the apple website (which used to work fine) - was wondering if anyone else can with fc11 or fc12?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 2 monitor configuration, with the second monitor uses exclusively for mythtv. When I'm not actually watching tv or a muvie or watching visualizations with music playing, I actually use the machine for more productive uses. As the result the second monitor is typically not turned on, might have something to do the the fact it's a crt design, consumes a fair bit of power and does a good job keeping the media room overly warm.
The question is, does Fedora 11 or newer have a means to prevent applications from opening on the second monitor? I've checked the obvious places and nothing jumps out .
btw: According to the nvidia x server settings control panel the second monitor is set up as in twinview mode. This mode was chosen to allow the gpu to do most of the video decoding tasks using vdupau or something as I recall.
with the new kernel update, my virtualbox won't open. Something about installing DKMS something first. Where would I find this to install?
