I would really like to stop Konqueror opening up links from Skype and other programs. It's becoming annoying because I have Chrome set to be the default browser, but for some reason when I click on a link it opens in Konqueror.
I am setting up a laptop for an old person who has trouble locating the skype icon in the notification bar. I want clicking on the skype desktop icon to open the window of already running instance instead of a new one (like it happens in Window$).I am using Lucid puppy 520.
I want the icon to link to script which checks if skype is already running, and if it is, it de-iconifies the skype window

I recently bought a IOgear USB bluetooth adapter and a Sony DRBT101/BLK bluetooth headphones to use with my computer.Whenever I try to make a call using these headphones with skype, I can speak for say 10 seconds and then the headset disconnects completely from the system. I then have to reconnect the headset by switching it off and on. I do not have this problem listening to music using A2DP. It works fine with my mobile phone. When I change the profile to Telephony Duplex (HSP/HFP), it shows up as hands free, I thought it should be headset in blueman manager. My friend uses Plantronics headset with is Dell laptop with built in bluetooth and he says his comes up as headset not hands free. Could this be causing the problem?
hJust installed brand new Centos 5.6 and skype, according to centos wiki (http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Skype) Getting these errors: skype: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.9' not found (required by skype)
Does anybody know a good option for a Skype based solution that works on Linux? I have a real problem with the current Linux version as it is a crappy, buggy and downgraded version of the Windows equivalent.
I just recently purchased a 3g dongle for my netbook. Everything seems to be working fine until I discovered this strange problem. I cant seem to text via skype, it doesnt go through. I testet the skype test call service and voice works fine, audio and mic. I have tried to google and search forums but no luck. I have before used skype on my netbook with my cellphone as a hot spot and it worked without problem but it doesnt have the same provider - different sim cards in phone and dongle.
I have downloaded & installed the skype beta release for linux (now ancient?) on my newly build fedora 14 (64) box.
Under fedora 12, I made this work after several hours of mucking around by installing old libraries for 32 bit code in /lib and /usr/lib - as I got an error, I found the library and put it in place. This was painful and the WRONG way to do things - I should have been using yum!
It remains a shame that the Skype release for Linux is so old, but that is life.
Can anyone list the libraries needed (prefer yum names if possible) to make this work?
I can do this again the hard way and list the results for others (should have saved for myself, but I never dreamed that a newer Skype release would take so long) , but I am sure many folks have this working already. I am surprised there is no "yum install skype---" command.
I've downloaded a game, thats a rar file, but when I try open it with archive manager it says Archive type not supported. What do I need to open / extract the files?
I am having weird problem. My browser is able to open some of the sites but some sites are not opening. I tried opening them on other machine, they opened but don't know why not on my machine! Whenever I click a website link to a .pdf I get this error message, "Could not launch Adobe Reader 8.1.2. Please make sure it exists in PATH variable in the environment. If the problem persists, please reinstall the application." Even though there is no Adobe Reader installed on my p.c.
I then have to right click the link and "Save link as How do I set the PATH variable so that Evince can open the document directly without first having to save the link?
After upgrading to 9.10 I am having trouble opening my old files encrypted with pgp. My keyring is still on the computer as I did an update and not a clean install. The problem is that I get a message saying that there is no pgp/mime program installed to open the file. Which program should I install to fix this?
Alright, so we have a customer that we plan on hooking up 2 Atom Nettops to TVs and having them display meal menus through powerpoint on them. They didn't come with Windows licenses and we are wanting to keep this cost low, so that's why we are doing this through Ubuntu. The plan so far is to ftp the .ppt file to each of the computers from a main Windows machine. I have the FTP servers up and running fine as well as VNC on both machines in case we need to access them. The path to the .ppt will remain static all the time so the filename and path will not change. Let's say it's called menu.ppt and it's located on the desktop of the user "user". I also have the 2 boxes automatically logging into the desktop. How can I launch this .ppt file on startup so that I don't have to touch the computer, just turn it on, and this menu.ppt will open and start playing? Or at the very least, open in OpenOffice or something of the sort and all the client has to do is VNC in and hit F5.
I'm running 9.04 jaunty. I made a file in gimp and saved it as .xcf. I want it to be a pdf file, so I try opening it with open office drawing, but it keeps opening it with the word processor instead. The word processor starts the file if I do a right-click 'open with' on the file on my desktop, and even if I use open from the file menu in drawing itself. I'm wondering what to do to get drawing to open this file. Is it that .xcf is not supported by drawing?
When starting VLC I get the following message: VLC media player 1.0.2 Goldeneye [0xa18888] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
A strange problem has cropped up with gnome on 9.10 amd64. Everything seems fine until I open a folder of JPG images. The window opens, starts filling in the icons and then POOF everything disappears except the desktop background. I have to restart X with CTL-ALT-BACKSPACE. It happens every time. I have used this folder many times in the past without problem. The folder's contents appear ordinary - see below:
I have this file that is about 3.6GB, I'm trying to open it through wine. But it gives me an error saying I can't open it. I'm not sure if this is a problem with wine, or do I need some special code to put in the terminal?
I'm running an upto date version of Lucid on my eeepc 901, sometimes when turning the machine on it loads to a command line sign in screen rather than the Gui screen after signing on it remains in the command line. Reason unknown. What might be wrong and what the command is to get to the Gui screen from the command line.
Two issues surfaced yesterday with 10.04.First, using either nautilus or the file browser (as sudo), i tried to get a listing of the /usr/bin directory. after a few seconds, either program will close. However, in terminal the ls command will give the directory listing. The second is that when I went to report the bug through theand support menu option
I'm trying to open an executable called qview (a GUI program) from Nautilus. The overall goal is to open a certain file type with it. If I run from terminal, there's no problem, but when I click on it from Nautilus, it doesn't seem to do anything. I changed the ownership to me, to make sure the permissions were set properly.
