Fedora X86/64bit :: Skype Doesn't Install Dependencies On 12 X86_64

Jan 17, 2010

I'm trying to get skype to work on my new system. It seems to install, but trying to run it I get an error message naming a missing dependency. Searching for this with yum whatprovides and installing the result worked in one case, but for the next one, yum install <package containing missing item> returns a few errors of the form:

package <name-version>.fc12.x86_64 (which is newer than <package-version>.fc12.i686) is already installed Is there any way around this? I'd like to get skype working, but am having no luck at the moment. I'd prefer not to remove the .x86_64 packages if I can avoid it in case that breaks something else.

Fedora :: Mic Doesn't Work In F12 - Skype Isn't Working Nor Is Gnome-sound-recorder

Nov 20, 2009

I basically can't get my mic to work in F12. After several releases fighting with pulseaudio, F11 finally worked almost OBO, after going to system->preferences->advanced sound configuration and setting all the input volumes to the maximum. But now there's no advanced sound configuration tool, and I just can't find anything to make it work. Skype isn't working, nor is gnome-sound-recorder. I do record some static, but nothing more. By the way, I'm on an Acer Timeline 3810T.

Fedora :: Samba Does Not Show Running Hosting Of Shares In The Services Gui On 11

Nov 13, 2009

I am baffled by fedora's feeble attempts to work with Samba. I have ran various versions of Fedora for the last few years, and sporadically, the Samba gui and samba itself have had such problems. My current problem in Fedora 11 (64bit) is that samba doesn't seem to be running correctly. It is allowing the hosting of shares, but it does not show that it is running in the services gui. It shows enabled, but when I attempt to change it by starting or stopping, nothing happens. The samba gui also shows that it launches but then never actually starts. I saw very similar problems with Fedora 9.

Fedora Installation :: USB Show Countdown But Doesn't Boot

Jun 15, 2010

I created a Fedora 13 x86 live image on USB using [URL] I've set it to boot using the USB and when it does I see the 10 sec countdown (or the options if I press a key), I tried all the options to boot the image but the screen just turns black for a few seconds and then the the monitor goes into "power saving mode" and nothing happens (I waited like 10 minutes). What's going on? I am trying to install fedora into an empty (secondary) HD, in the main HD I only have a win XP, and I don't want to burn a cd/dvd that's why I am trying to boot the USB.

Fedora :: HP Printer Doesn't Show Up In The CUPS Wizard

Apr 28, 2011

I have taken a break from using Fedora, but since getting my netbook Ive decided to dual boot with Windows 7 Started (warranty purposes) and Fedora 14 with Fedora as the default boot OS. Now Ive got my home network setup as follows:

Gaming laptop, Windows 7 Pro x64, external powered USB hub with 1.5TB HD with shared folders through windows share permissions and the HP Deskjet F2430 printer

Netbook 1, my wifes netbook, Windows 7 Starter, has 100% access to the windows shares and the printer.

Netbook 2, my netbook, Fedora 14 has windows shared folder access but no printer access. In Windows 7 Starter has access to windows shared folders and printer access.

All of them are wirelessly networked through my Linksys WRTG54GS thats flashed with DD-WRT Mega firmware. The only laptop that has a hardwired connection to the printer and HD is my gaming laptop. how to go about allowing this? My printer doesnt show up in the CUPS wizard.

Ubuntu :: Can't See Incoming Video On Skype / Show That?

Feb 4, 2010

I can not see incoming video on Skype.

Okay, so I have Skype installed, and it has worked fine in the past. I have been able to chat with my girlfriend on it. We can see each other and both talk. I haven't used it in probably 3 or 4 months. I tried to use it last night and for some reason, I could not see her on the video. It would just show up as a white box where the video should be. She could see me, and we could hear each other. I already had her test with somebody else to check if her video output was okay, and it worked just fine.

I read something that Cairo Dock could somehow be affecting it, but I haven't tested this theory. I can't see how the two could be related.

Approx 300 MB RAM

Rest is unknown.

Think this is capable of running skype with video?

I've been googling for a while, but didn't find anything.. I forgot to mention, I;m using Fedora :P, the apache that came with it and mysql and php from the repository...

Ubuntu Installation :: UNR And Skype - Eeepc 901 - Always Crashing And Running Slow

Apr 8, 2010

Last year I installed UNR on my 7yr old daughter eeepc901. It came with XP Home but was always crashing and running slow. Since all she needed it for was browsing childrens sites and the odd email from myself i decided to put something better on there and in the end choose UNR.

Its been running great for, However I have now taken a new where I am now based in Germany. I have set her up with a skype acct and last night we managed a video call for a couple of minuets although I couldnt hear her very well (couldnt figure out how to get her to turn the volume on up her Mic) When I first set skype up i set it to auto login which when ever I used the laptop to test it worked fine.

However as I am now in Germany and not able to really help with the settings The first thing I thought of doing was to upgrade the version of skype her laptop is running. So I can go to skype and downlaod 2.1 beta 2 for linux would this be the correct version?

Also what I need is a set of instructions that I can give to either my 7yr old daughter or her mother (daughter is probably the better of the two with computers)
on how to install the new version. Mum is used to windows where she just double clicks an .exe file and follows the prompts.

Also where would I need them to look in order to get them to turn the mic volume up?
