Fedora :: Postfix 2.7.0 Ignoring Main.cf Params

Aug 31, 2010

I've recently upgraded my home server from fc5 to fc13 which means installing the latest version of postfix (identified as 2.7.0 in the maillog). It is used to send mail from cron jobs and logwatch to a local mailbox (aliased) and my googlemail account so I can monitor when away from home. I finally got it working, but had to pull a trick that I feel bad about--it feels very hacky, and does not survive a reboot. The problem is no matter what I do, this version of Postfix ignores the settings for "masquerade_domains", "myhostname" and "mydomain" in main.cf, using instead whatever 127.0.0.1 (or :::1) is set to in /etc/hosts!!

To send mail to Internet locations, the "from" needs to be a valid domain. In an earlier version of Postfix (2.6.x) I just fudged this to a domain I own (that is parked) in main.cf using "masquerade_domains". Now I have to insert it in /etc/hosts instead of "localhost". I can't find anyone on the web who seems to be having this problem. Postfix is definitely reading main.cf as it is obviously picking up other setings such as debug_peer_level and proxy_interfaces.

As I said, it works, but I don't like my solution and /etc/hosts gets rewritten to ":::1 localhost6.localdomain6" when the system is rebooted, meaning I have to edit it to get Postfix working again as sendmail rejects "localhost6.localdomain6" as not found:

Ubuntu Servers :: Permissions For A Log File Being Changed?

Feb 23, 2010

I have a recently setup my first linux server (hardy) and am having problems with the permissions for a log file being changed. I believe this is caused by syslogd, but am not sure how to correct it. Bacula will report it is unable to start a backup because it is unable to open the log file (/var/lib/bacula/log) "permission denied". After changing the owner from syslog to bacula, the backup will resume. However, the following day I encounter the same problem because the owner of the log has been changed back to syslog.I see where the permissions for logs are altered in sysklogd, but I am not certain how to make bacula exempt or if this is the right approach.

Fedora :: 11 - Xp Roaming Profiles With Samba Pdc No Longer Works After Upgrade

Jun 17, 2009

I was successfully using samba + fedora directory server in fedora 10 as a primary domain controller for my home network (achieved mostly by following barry905's instructions here: [url].

After upgrading to fedora 11, some of the pdc functionality no longer worked.

For example, when i ran 'pdbedit -Lv', i got:

Code:

I was able to fix this by adding to the [global] section in /etc/samba/smb.conf:

Code:

I also found that i could no longer join an xp computer to the domain. i discovered that for some reason, the samba administrator password had been cleared. after running:

Code:

That was fixed.

The last problem, which i have still not fixed, is that roaming profiles no longer work. when i try to do a domain login as user 'htpc' from an xp machine, i get the following message in xp:

Here's an excerpt of my /etc/samba/smb.conf:

Hardware :: Can No Longer Connect To San Device / When San Switch Changed

Aug 6, 2010

I have 2 HP DL585 servers with Emulex fibre channel cards that were originally running RHEL 5.3 and 5.2 with kernel 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5 connected to a san.I have now patched these to RHEL 5.5, kernel 2.6.194-8.1.el5.The san team have moved the cabling from a standard san switch to a fabric san switch and I have tried to configure multipath.Since the cable move, the servers display 2 lines of:shpchp:shpc_init: cannot reserve mmio region then the boot halts with sda5 device or resource busy.

Returning the cables to the original switch and removing the multipath config allows the servers to boot. What is the shpchp error and is this causing the problem? Why would changing the switch the cable plugs into cause the server to fail to boot with the device busy message? Also, it's not easy to arrange downtime on these servers, so I don't know when I'll next have a chance to reboot them.

Fedora :: F12 & Internal Floppy Drive - Floppy Formatting No Longer Works?

Dec 13, 2009

Is there something weird about the FLOPPY DRIVE on F12? Nothing associated with it works & I can't get an icon for it. Also the FLOPPY FORMATTER no longer works. (mine is an internal drive)- I had some really miner quirks with it in 10 but it worked. I had some workaround launchers that I used until an upgrade semi-fixed it. (It would give a false error that it couldn't run but did. I just ignored it.)

I tried to edit FSTAB to cure a problem of my BACKUP drive showing up twice*** so while I was in there I added the stuff for the floppy & it still doesn't work. If I try to mount it manually, I get the error that /dev/fd0 doesn't exist.I tried to find some info on it & it SEEMS that there MAY be a bug but I'm not sure as the info is a bit confusing as to just what version & such they are talking about. And there was also the problem that all the stuff seemed to be OLD or not related to my problem.I why I quite hacking at my system, is that all my workaround launchers & the formatter say that there are GNOME things missing & they can't run. So I figure that there is something missing or screwy already & that I'd better ask BEFORE I make things worse or actually break something. With the fact that floppies are about gone, it's getting to be not that big of a deal but I still find myself having to use them for repair purposes (albeit, not as much) & it gets to be a bit of a pain to fire up M$ just to do something like this.

*** It appears that the one in FSTAB was the one I needed, so where would the OTHER one be so I can get rid of it? Or at least make it auto mount.

Fedora Servers :: DYNDNS Changed Public Key - Now Scp Doesn't Work

Apr 9, 2010

A week ago or so neither ssh nor scp were working when attempting to connect to my on-campus computer from home. ssh was complainig about the key not matching and I figured out I could just delete the config file it was reading the (now old) key from and let it create a new one with the updated key upon prompting me whether or not to trust the remote host.

However, even though ssh is now working, I can no longer use scp. I issued scp -v and discovered a bunch of errors. scp prompts me for the remote password and even prints the message of the day on the remote computer but then just hangs and doesn't seem to be copying any files. I'm sure the issue is with the whole key change issue but I can't quite figure out why ssh would be working just fine and scp would be failing.

Fedora Servers :: Check In Dates Getting Changed / Updated To System Time

Jun 21, 2011

I am using the default CVS available in Fedora 9. I initiated the CVS server by
cvs -d /usr/local/cvsproj init
To check-in and check-out the following exports commands are used
export CVS_RSH=ssh
export CVSROOT=:ext:swathi@SERVER:/usr/local/cvsproj

I shall explain problem by taking an example. A project was checked in long before (for example the checkin date is 25 Feb 2010). And today (i.e. 21 June 2011) I checked out the project from the repository. After checkout, the date of the project in the repository is changed from 25 Feb 2010 to 21 June 2011. This date is set to all the subfolders in that project. But the files in the project retains the checking date i.e. 25 Feb 2010. Why the check-in dates are getting updated/changed to the system time after doing check-out.

Fedora Servers :: Yum Is No Longer Working In 3

Apr 23, 2009

I am running a Fedora 3 that I had installed from a slightly outdated disk. and I have been making updates by using YUM. But I have a policy of only updating just what is needed and leaving the rest alone. This was fine until some time (I think is was) last year, when our friends at fedora had discontinued support for Fedora 3 and then unwisely deleted all the packages for fedora 3 and fedora 4 off there server. Now it has been a struggle just administer updates when application that I am adding become unhappy with the version that come off of the disk, and I end up with versions that are more current then I wanted. All I wanted is to have access to the packages that were left when the music stopped.

Hear is my current pediment. I now need to run PHP (something I never used until now) and version that came with the disk (ver 4.3.9) is too low for the scripts that I will be running. They need PHP 5. Now I know that were up to something like PHP 5.3.x. But I don't really need that. I am shore there is a version of PHP 5, like versions 5.1, that was available though YUM. If they only just left it there. At least Microsoft leaves all of there window 98 updates on there server for people to use, even though they don't support windows 98 any more.

The biggest reason I want to use YUM or even up2date for my installs and updates, is they minimized the risk of screwing something up.

Here is my question. Dos, anyone know where there is a mirror of fedora 3 updates that fedora used to have on there site?

I am hopping to be able to adjust the baseurl= line in the fedora.repo file to point it to this new mirror and make YUM work like NEW.

Fedora Servers :: Recommended Postfix Configuration For SB?

Mar 27, 2009

I am building an email server in what I consider to be a 'small business'. I would say my Postfix mail server will house 300 mailboxes (Max). I have a decent server with enough RAM / disk space to run this email server however I don't know what the best way is to manage / configure the users mail boxes.

how to create a new user on the Linux server using 'adduser / useradd' and then setting their shell to /bin/nologin. This is because the mail user will never need to log into the shell of the mail server directly and can still populate email from their mailbox which is located in their /home/$user directory. Now many people I spoke with have advised me that this is a bad and cumbersome method of account administration.

I am running:

Postfix 2.5
Clamav v0.94.2
Amavisd-new 2.5.4
Dovecot 1.0.7
Spamassassin 3.2.5

Fedora Servers :: Postfix Only Listening On Localhost ?

Oct 27, 2009

I am trying to get my own email server set up, and so far its been going pretty smooth, The only thing that is not working right now is receiving emails. I can send email just fine, and when they are sent they are even sent from the proper addresses, but when I try to send an email to my domain, it does not go through.

I have the port forwards set up on my router to send all traffic on port 25 over to my mail server, I can telnet to the smtp server from the localhost just fine, but when I try to telnet from another computer on my network it gives me this message

Quote:

So I ran a netstat -an on my mail server to see what ip address smtp is listening on and I get this result

Quote:

Now most guides I find for this problem just say to un comment the line in the master.cf that says "smtp inet n - - - - smtpd", the problem is that line is already uncommented and I am still not able to telnet to port 25 from any machine on my network.

Here is my main.cf, tell me if there is anything that I can do.

My postfix main.cf there are 2 things I am unsure of. 1) For system users which local_recipiant_maps do i use? 2) What should mynetworks be?As I have been testing it out through telnet I can send mail but it doesnt get to my test email (a gmail account) and when i try to send an email locally it seems that everything works fine but the mail doesnt get there, and the error i am getting is that it cant find the user.

Fedora Servers :: Multiple Domains With Postfix

Aug 4, 2010

I have Postfix + Unix Accounts + Virtual Domains. I have a bunch of domains hosted on my machine, let's call them [URL] [URL] and [URL]... etc Until know, domain2.com, domain3.com were mapped in virtual domains to [URL] So this is how /etc/postfix/virtual looks like:

[URL]

Like I said, all mail accounts are unix accounts, so, if for example I have the user "paul" this user will receive e-mail for ALL DOMAINS. [URL]But as it turns out, I now need a COMPLETELY ISOLATED domain... let's call it [URL]. So If I create a new user, let's call it "steve" I want steve to receive e-mail ONLY on [URL] and not on all others.

I would have to redo the whole thing from the beginning. I'd have to comment out the $mydestination parameter in the main.cf file and start using only virtual domains. So if I have the following users: paul, steve, sally, megan, jenny and I want paul and steve to ONLY receive mail for domain1.com, sally and megan to receive mail for domain2.com and jenny to receive mail for domainX.com, my /etc/postfix/virtual file would have to look like this:

[URL]

I'd have to create the unix account and then start modifying the /etc/postfix/virtual file.

CentOS 5 Server :: Postfix No Longer Sending Mail?

Jan 7, 2010

One of my mailservers running postfix has suddenly stopped sending mail and has been generating the following errors:

Jan 7 12:03:08 postfix/sendmail[3560]: warning: premature end-of-input on /usr/sbin/postdrop -r while reading input attribute name
Jan 7 12:03:08 postfix/sendmail[3560]: fatal: root(0): unable to execute /usr/sbin/postdrop -r: Success

[Code].....

Things I have tried to fix this problem, but didn't work.

1) Stopped postfix, uninstalled and reinstalled.

2) Did a complete filesystem relabel with a touch /.autorelabel and reboot.

3) Did a restorecon -F -R on /etc/postfix, /var/spool/postfix and /usr/sbin/post*

Nothing above has worked and have no idea why with selinux disabled postfix works and with it on it fails.
