Fedora Servers :: Use XP As VNCViewer And Fedora 10 As VNCServer

Apr 29, 2009

I run into a problem when trying to use my XP as VNCViewer and my Fedora 10 as VNCServer I installed VNC server and client in both my XP and Fedora. If I am using Fedora VncViewer through XP, it runs with no problem. But not the otherway around? (XP vncviewer to FC) Yes..... I know this happens a lot and I can google it, but I googled it with no luck! IP address for my Fedora is 10.0.10.148

I run VncServer in Fedora by typing 'vncserver' or 'vncserver :1', and comes out with the display screen number (1) and the log file. I checked the log file and there are a few errors. (see attached) I run VncViewer from XP, type in 10.0.10.148:1 and still got "Connection refused (10061)' (please see attached again). I attached the startup file as well for you to see. Port 5900 TCP and UDP are open, I can ping from XP to Fedora, I can telnet, but I can't VNC.

Fedora Servers :: Vncserver From Runlevel 3 ?

I'm running a server that boots into runlevel 3. I can ssh into it but I only get a blank screen when I try to connect to the vncserver that's running on it. Is it possible to connect to a vncserver that's running on runlevel 3 or does X have to be running for the vnc to work?

Fedora Servers :: Vncserver Not Starting On Boot

May 21, 2009

I am currently using FC10 on a Dell 4600 with 2GB of ram. I love Linux as it is the most stable OS around. My end goal is to have the machine boot and start the vncserver automatically, eventually using an ssh tunnel to make it secure. My main problem is the vncserver is not starting on boot, I must login as a user then it works great. the error I get is

[Code]....

Basically what happens is the vncserver fails on boot however, if I login to the Fedora box I am able to connect and I get the GDM login screen. I have read many, many posts but have not been able to get over the boot issue. I really want to make this a headless box I can put in another room so I have more room for my musical gear.

Ubuntu Servers :: VNCServer Opens 100 Sessions/displays?

Apr 13, 2011

I am setting up a server with Ubuntu Server edition. It is has 4gb of ram and had been working great the first week or so but something strange started happening about the same time I installed MythTV. After that, the server would slow down considerably and the ram being used would go from about 400megs up to all of the 4gb and use about 2gb or swap. After much research and investigating, I've narrowed it down to the vncserver starting up all 100 displays/sessions even if I try to specify one with : vncserver :1

OpenSUSE Network :: Combining Vncviewer Switches ?

Mar 21, 2011

I use vncviewer (win32) to connect to my SuSE 11.3 box. The SuSE box has the "standard" xinetd started Xvnc server running (includes the -inetd switch).

My client (the vncviewer) has to go through a firewall with limited ports available and so I use the command line:

Code:

However, if there is a problem with the connection, such that the client disconnects, it seems that subsequent request to the Xvnc server create a new session/display. The text in the client window reports "nobody's x11 desktop (host:1)", then "...(host:2)", then "...(host:3)" etc.

I have tried combining the display and the port parameters, like this:

Code:

Can anyone suggest an alternative way of reconnecting to a broken vnc session?

CentOS 5 :: VNCviewer Stuck When Logout Remotely

May 16, 2011

I managed to install Centos x86 for the first time, together with VncServer, SSH access, mySQL and Apache. Everything worked greater until I logged in remotely to the server from my Windows 7 machine using RealVnc. I manage to connect successfully and able to use the GUI remotely. However, when I press logout from the menu, the screen gets stuck on the funky blue and white curly background. It does not close automatically.

If I close it using the 'X' button and reconnect, I get in to same stuck screen. My only workaround is to login with Putty and type 'service vncserver restart'. Then I am able to connect again. But same thing happens when I do a logout.

Fedora Servers :: Upgrade Fedora Release Keeping Raid 1 And Lvm?

Nov 13, 2010

I hope this is the right section, it looks like though. I have a small nas ( via artigo a2000 ) with 2 sata hd 1tb each with raid 1 and lvm on top configured and working great.

sda1 and sdb1 ==> md0 raid1 for /boot
sda2 and sdb2 ==> md1 raid1 for swap
sda3 and sdb3 ==> md2 raid1 as physical volume then volume group and lvs on top ( / is a logial volume of these )

I wish to upgrade the current fedora 12 32bit installation I have on it doing a fresh install. But because I have a lot of data on md2 ( 600GB worth ) which I don't want to copy across somewhere else first, I need to know how ( i am pretty sure i can ) to mount md2 during the installation. This way I can use the data I already have on it.

Fedora Servers :: Change RAID On Fedora Startup?

Feb 2, 2009

Im having a hard time trying to change my raid configuration. Here is my situation:

A have two HDs that I configured in instalation time to work as raid squid proxy-cache. they are both 40GB. 40+40=80GB. So, I want to change it to two of 160GB. 160+160=320GB.

I have:
sdc1=40GB
sdd1=40GB

im adding / want:
sda1=160GB
sdb1=160GB

I want to remove the two 40GB and use only the two 160GB for my proxy. The thing is that when I remove the two 40GB, the system crashes at startup telling me that the raid cant be done then file system check fales too. Im wondering if there is a file a have to edit to change to point it to /dev/sda1 intead of /dev/sdc1 for example, so my system would start up looking for sda1(160GB) and sdb1(160GB) intead of sdc1(40GB) and sdd1(40GB).

Fedora Servers :: Different MX On Port 25 From The Fedora Box And Each Time?

Jan 15, 2009

I have a Fedora 10 box I am using as a web development server. I have most everything working. I am trying to use sendmail as an MTA for sending out emails and I am having problems having the messages delivered. The error always comes up as connection timed out. I have attempted to telnet to many different MX server on port 25 from the Fedora box and each time I try I never get a connection.

This made me think that it might be something with ISP doing port filtering to prevent SPAM or something, however I can telnet to port 25 from different computer on the network. I also have stopped IPTABLES in an effort to try and resolve this issue and am still getting connections timed out.

I have run TCPDUMP while trying to telnet to port 25 to an MX server from the Fedora 10 server and all I see are out bound packets. I also explored the idea that I might of had some kind of weird routing issue on my firewall. I am currently using a Juniper NetScreen 5GT with an ANY/ANY outbound rule. I do not currently have SMTP open on the firewall as I am not planning on accepting mail here.

The best I can figure as telneting to port 25 from windows computers on the same network as the Fedora server works just fine, yet it does not work from the Fedora Server is that it must be some thing on the Fedora box itself, but I have no clue as to what I could be.

Fedora Servers :: Syncing The Servers With Rsync?

Apr 2, 2009

I setup an rsync in cron to sync a master server with a backup server. however not everything gets copied over or removed. I believe this to be a permissions issue on the backup server. I am using a user we created specifically for this, and the rsync is setup to preserve permissions and delete files that have been deleted on the master..

Here is the rsync command:

59 11,23 * * * rsync -avP --delete -e "ssh -pPort" /media/_Files user@ip address:/media >> /home/user/sync.log

Of course the ip address, user and port number is something else then above.. Is there a way to make the user that is initiating the sync into a superuser like root? That way everything on the backup server can be updated as necessary? I don't want to use root, Id like it to be a name I can keep relatively confidential.
