Fedora Servers :: Proftp Behind A Router - List The User Dir It Freeze
Jun 9, 2009
I got Fedora 10 and I installed a proftpd server it works in local network but not from outside. Actually I can see it checks for user and pass but when it has to list the user dir it freeze. The server is behind a router. I am using passive ports 60000-60100 and I forwarded all connections to and from 21 to 60000-60100 onto internal (192.168.0.109) IP address.
I'm niomi and I'm the first account with sudo. I add an account, bob. niomi can get in reliably on active mode. (maybe relevant?: passive doesn't work) bob is jailed to his home directory, niomi is in ftp-special which gives her access to /. bob can't log in and his shell is set to bin/false. What could have gone wrong?
As the title says the machine name is not showing up in the attached devices list on my router. Is there a file where I need to add the name? Or is this an issue with the router? The router finds all the other machine names on the network except my 3 servers.
I have a real system user say 'test', created in a number of system groups, up to 3 additional groups (including ftp of course). Its set to the usual standard directory /home/test. But what if I wanted to use /home/test as their home directory but login to what would be unknown to them to be ProFTP to make them go in say [URL] or something random like that, how is this done? Just been through things like this:
I have been using proftp for about 8 months. After getting the configuration right, it worked perfectly. It is only used intermittently, so I don't know for sure when the problems started, but I suspect it was triggered by a recent OS upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bit). I have proftp set up so that TLS is required on both the data and control channels. The problem is that, after successful login, the server seems to be terminating the session because the client (FileZilla) is attempting to renegotiate something (probably the TLS). The client settings didn't change, nor did the server settings.
I have tried switching off the TLSRequired flag, and am then able to establish a non-secure FTP session which works (but that does not meet my requirements). I wondered whether the OS upgrade had somehow invalidated my TLS certificates, but the symptoms don't seem consistent with that cause. The TLS part of my proftpd.conf file is:
Ive looked up and down but i cant seem to find an answer to my question. Why cant i upload to my ftp site. I am running a lamp server and i installed proftp. i created users and groups. i tested my server and its working fine. but now when im working on dreamweaver to connect to my ftp... It connects fine i can download my files from the site but when i edit them and try to "put" them back. i get an error:
index.html - error occurred - An FTP error occurred - cannot put index.html. Access denied. The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem. Make sure you have proper authorization on the server and the server is properly configured.
I am starting to hate using NetworkManager instead of the good old "network" option. This is my problem. I have a modem I got from my ISP. My F10 server is hooked up directly to this router, and gets a static IP address of: 22.34.45.33 (Hypothetical ip). I then have a wireless router on my network, that connects directly to my isp's modem, and gets a static IP address aswell. Attached to the wireless router are all of the desktops in my house.
I have more than one network card in my server, so I want to plug my server into my router so I can share files. Whenever I do this, I get DNS issues. My postfix cannot receive email, but it can send it. Once the local interface is disconnected, I regain the ability to recieve email from postfix. I am so confused. This is my first encounter using NetworkManager. I just switched from CentOS.
Linux and have a western digital server (my book world edition) I can access it with Ubuntu 11.04, just by downloading Samba and then by clicking on network and the server shows up, but with Fedora 15, after I have installed Samba, I click on network and all that shows up is my router?
When I run yum list fedora runs through around 5-10 repos that it can never connect to what's the best way to remove these repos? And which repos are the most reliable?
I am running a mysql 5.0.41 community edition server.i have a user x and i need to set max connection limit for the user... Can any one give the correct syntax to update the current user to include max connection for the user x.
When i try to create a new samba user the computer locks up and i get this message. can someone help me out. TB08997608 connection.py:630:call_blockingBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildExited: Launch helper exited with unknown return code 1
i decide to develop an ISP billing system.i have a linux server that communicate with a cisco router.how can i add user and config them with programming?
as soon as mysqld starts it goes 100% cpu. I can stop it, there is no mysql_safe running, and I ran mysqlcheck -A -a -c -o -g --auto-repair -u root -p all is ok, syslog shows nothing important but I can't login to any account with mysql client it just sits there, using php it times out. I don't know how to fix the urgent situation...
Looks like it has been started after a release update to 9.10 or 10.4 (i did it in a row) I don't know if this bug is related [URL]
I have FC10 newly installed, and Apache is serving content from /var/www/ okay.
I'm trying to get Apache to serve web content from user's home directories. This is what I've tried with no success:
Uncommented 'UserDir public_htm' in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf and commented out 'UserDir disabled'.
And...
Uncommented user directory section in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf. It now reads as follows: # # Control access to UserDir directories. The following is an example # for a site where these directories are restricted to read-only. #
[Code].....
I also tried setenforce 0 to temporarily disable SELinux until the next reboot. No luck. It doesn't appear to be an SELinux issue.
That's as far as the information available will take me. I still get URL 'Not Found' when I try to access http://192.168.0.2/~myusername/
I have webmin and usermin setup.Iam using dovecot and sendmail ,I can use usermin to login ,check or send emails.Outlook and thunderbird works as well.
But I want to use something for webmail. I am trying squirrelmail but it keeps saying invalid user and or password.
I'm trying to restrict a particular ssh user to his home directory, I'm just giving him access so that he can ssh to another server that is only accessible from the former but restrict his movement so that he can't poke around the former.I already made some changes to sshd_config file and added the following line at the end:
Did some test, user joe can ssh to the server but unable to do anything aside from logging in, even a simple ls command will immediately close the putty session. I know I'm still missing something but don't really know what it is.I also tried this how to that uses rssh --> http://www.adamhawkins.net/2009/05/r...ured/#more-431 however when I login the session immediately closes.
I want to enable User Directories in Apache. So in httpd.conf I set:
Code: <IfModule mod_userdir.c> #UserDir enabled // commented out UserDir public_html </IfModule> Directory /home/kees is listed has the following file permissions: drwx--x--x 32 kees kees Directory /home/kees/public_html has the following file permissions: drwxr-xr-x 2 root root
Directory public_html has two files: index.html and index.php, both with file permissions: -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root If I now try to open http://myhost/~kees/index.html (or index.php) in my browser I get a 403 Forbidden error. If I look in my error log I see the following messages if I first try to open the index.html and then the index.php file:
I have samba server(Fedora 11) here, but when I want to access to it from WindowXP ,the first time you need to tap in user name and password. But the next time ,you automatically log in Samba server with the user name as the first time you used. But I have not clicked the "Remeber me " option when I logged in.I want to switch user when I want to log in samba, does anybody know what is wrong ?
I am new to to dovecot and would like some help, so please be kind.I have one user that can send mail but not read it either by pop3 or imap.I am running Dovecot 2.0.11 on Fedora 14.
You can find a list of all the booleans for SELinux (Fedora 10) using getsebool -a My question is, is there a reference online that describes each one. Most of obvious but it's one of those "I have to know because it's there situation).
Linux machine displays icons for the Network and Workgroup Try to open Workgroup and get error "UNABLE TO MOUNT - FAILED TO RETRIEVE SHARE LIST FROM SERVER" What "share list" is it searching for?
SELinux and firewall turned off Have both Linux and Samba users entered

I'd like to configure vsftpd server in a way to allow remote user (local) too see and edit configuration files in their ftp directory starting from dot (like .htaccess, for example). With default configuration + "local_allowed = yes" it does not appear to be possible:user can successfully upload .file but could neither see if it is in directory nor download it.
I have installed Fedora 12 x86_64 and vsftpd. I would like to set up an user for FTP so that he/she could only view/edit files in one certain folder (the one that I set up). How would I go about doing that?
i've installed directory server in a fedora 12 box, i got it running and i can access it using coldfusion to manage users and groups.i hit a snag when creating a user, this because coldfusion cannot generate a password, the directory server needs a certificate and a ssl connection.so i started googling for a way to generate and install a certificate on the server itself and in the directory.s is my administration server and directory(it's novabase directory) not the other one.
I have a openldap server running on one machine (fedora10) and pam_ldap.so and nss_ldap.so running on the other machine.
I have added a new user to the LDAP server database, this user is not created on client machine.
1. Can i login to the client machine using this new user?
2. Now if i try logging with this new user I am getting error messages, the error messages are as follows at client side
Sep 2 10:34:36 localhost sshd[8484]: Invalid user kim from 10.254.194.148 Sep 2 10:34:36 localhost sshd[8485]: input_userauth_request: invalid user kim Sep 2 10:35:16 localhost sshd[8484]: pam_ldap: error trying to bind as user "cn=min soo,ou=people,dc=samsung,dc=com" (Invalid credentials)
Im trying to limit the diskspace users on the system may consume, and i found quotas (im a total linux noob). But when i try to set it, no matter what i set it to the maximus is 2 GB. Now... i need quite a lot more than that. One user should be able to use 1900 GB and the other 600 GB. How can i fix this? Im using ubuntu server 10.04.
