I have samba server(Fedora 11) here,but when I want to access to it from WindowXP ,the first time you need to tap in user name and password.But the next time ,you automatically log in Samba server with the user name as the first time you used. But I have not clicked the "Remeber me " option when I logged in.I want to switch user when I want to log in samba,does anybody know what is wrong ?

The problem is I've installed vsftpd and it works from the local machine but when I try to connect to the ftp server using another computer on my small home network I get the following error: "Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the filename correctly and that you have permission to access this folder. Details: A connection with the server could not be established."
I've gone through the common vstfp problems post but I'm still having problems. The server is pingable from the remote laptop I'm using. I've disabled selinux:

I set up a servber on my local machine, & also PHp - Both working fine.I'm trying to load up MYSQL i have installed it, & *can* start/stop the server. however if I do anything else with it, I get this error :-

c) anything else I can do on the PHP / website code to see if MYSQL is working
(as yet, no tables / databases etc have been set up - as I can't get past this error message - I get the same error when setting up a database.)
Ps I did allow my usermname (when logged in to ubuntu) to edit / create files in the /usr/www/ directory (but it is still OWNED by 'root' - that directory)
I configured a FTP Server on Fedora Now I want to create a user for FTP Server which has no privileges to access any things outside his home directory .
Username is "Test1"
Home directory is /var/ftp/Test1
chmod 700 /var/ftp/Test1
chown Test1 /var/ftp/Test1
In FC13, when one user logs into GNOME and locks the screen, there is a "switch user" button so someone else can return to the log in screen and log in as well. But in KDE, there is only two buttons "Unlock" (for the current user) and "Cancel"

Fortunately, there is a Switch User button when the screen is locked from Gnome with the default screensaver.
The question is how can a new graphical user be switched from console (Ctrl+Alt+F2...F6) if the screen is locked by some other screensaver which does not have this function?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a very basic problem: My computer is attached to various light switches, central heating, powered windows etc. via RS232 and USB, using homemade custom logic boards. With this I can switch on and off lights, regulate room temperature, open windows etc. all by running some shell scripts on my system. I would now like to create a simple web frontend for this home automation.
What I want is a basic website with buttons, and when someone clicks a button on that website I want the webserver (apache ? ) to execute a script on the the server machine, triggering the rs232 hardware. The website is to be served by apache to make use of an existing structure. How (in what language) could I accomplish that? Javascript and Java are obviously out since they execute on the client, as far as I know PHP can't access the shell (which is probably a good thing), so what's left?
CGI? This will be deployed on an isolated private network secured the old-fashioned way (steel doors, guard dogs, landmines...), so I am not overly concerned about security, but of course it would be nice if the implementation offered at least some basic resistance to bored script kiddies...
In the office there is a local network with samba+openldap PDC. The local domain name is company.net. The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWant to access a printer attached to a windows 7 server. What I did was the following: 1. Installed samba-common, samba-client & samba-winbind. 2. Included Samba & Samba Client as Trusted Services in the Firewall with system-config-firewall. 3. SELinux is Disabled (in System Default Enforcing Mode). 4. Shared the printer in the Windows 7 server. Other Windows hosts in the LAN can print successfully.
In system-config-printer, I selected Add Printer -> Windows Printer via SAMBA -> Browse... The SMB Browser successfully found the Share and the Host, but won't show the printer. Am I missing something here? The samba wiki mentions that I also need to change some windows registries in this page: [URL].... Do I really need to do this? I don't want to needlessly mess with windows registry
I installled it 2 weeks ago. How do I access the windows sharing from the fedora box. My windows network is on AD that runs on Win 2003 Server.? I can ping to the server, but how to access the sharing? I had look at the forum and some are very technical.

It seems that if I change the owner of /var/www/specificdomains/ to the user in question, then www:data no longer owns the directory and Apache starts to have issues..
What's the best way to set this such that I can allow users to FTP into specific directories, and still have www:data own them? I'm currently using vsftp, but that can easily change.
what cloud computing is and i think it can help me with some of my clients i want to switch my clients from a normal ubuntu server to a ubuntu cloud. as of right now i have to send out a bill to them and if they dont pay i have to shut down there service till they pay. what i would like to do is to have a cloud where i can sell them based on what they use not a set price like it is now. and have them be able to pay there bill on the cloud and if they miss the bill then the cloud can shut off there service till its payed.
i dont know if this is possible and i have looked everywhere and all i can find is info on other businesses billing and now how to set up a cloud to do this. i wish there was some kind of tutorial for this. if anyone can direct me to some good notes/tutorials that would be very helpful. this could be a big changing point in my business if i can do this. it would save a lot of time and cash.
When I create folders in a PHP script fom my website, the folder is created but has owner "33". My ftp user have an other "Owner ID" than this. So I can't delete or edit the files that is created. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 on a VPS server.

i want to allow some friends to ssh/sftp/scp into my system but i only want them to have access to my external hard drive (/media/externalHD/), and i dont want them to be able to delete or add anything, only download.i have found instructions on how to limit a user to his/her home directory and thought about just creating a user with the home directory /media/externalHD but idk if this will work and im afraid i might make a mistake and delete 800gb of 'files'

This is odd as the same password works in terminal if I try to become a SuperUser. I have tried turning off SELinux to no avail. I cannot log in from cold as root,only as user.

there is no iptables definition, or any other firewall installed, neither on the server nor the client. i've read through alot of howtos an manuals, but was not able to find the problem.

Now i want to install suse on client side so that it can do all same things as windows clients does(active directory login and disk quota). Right now I have 2 36.4GB drives in RAID 1+0 and 4 146.8GB drives in a RAID 5 config. I wanna use the smaller drive for the OS and the bigger drive for the storage. I've managed to load the OS fine, the problem is I can't figure out how to mount the 4 146.8GB drives as a single logical volume and set Samba to use it. Right now all the RAIDs are setup using the built-in Compaq Smart Array utility (or whatever it's called) that's built into the SCSI hardware or BIOS.

I have been doing a remote access (ssh) to my server to access it from a pc on the local network. I later found out the same program doing ssh (open_ssh) was also doing sftp, great I could do both with one system account. Problem I couldn't find away to configure another user to go over the web with limited folder access without messing up my user to access the pc. I tried ftps by using vsftpd, I couldn't get chroot set up correctly or even log in. So my question is what program and/or protocol should I use to do secure ftp over the web?

I am trying to give access to ONE single user to start and shutdown tomcat server. The problem being, when I enter syntax: username ALL= /etc/init.d/tomcat5, /usr/local/tomcat/webapps, PASSWD:ALL This gives the user access to start and stop tomcat but also gives user access to start and stop other services within /etc/init.d - such as httpd etc... What is the proper way to give user access to start and stop service, and limiting that power to only one service....
