View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a weird problem here with a 9.04 server. We have a raid 5 disk formatted in EXT4 which remounted automatically when we accessed to the lost+found folder which is in the root of that disk.
I tried to delete it but I can't. It's a bit annoying because I have to prevent all users and backups to access to that folder.
I have created a folder including some html link pages in /test/htlink . Now I want to create a soft link of that folder as htlink -> /test/htlink in /var/www/html . Now when I m browsing the folder , its erroring (404 Not Found) folder is not found on the server . I have given 777 permission on every file-folder in /test . No firewall & no SELINUX .

If i create a samba share to one of my lost+found folders so i can copy stuff to somewhere else, will that cause a problem? I'm thinking not, but since its a special folder wanted to make sure.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed ubuntu maverick a couple days ago, total newbie. After trying to install some software I no longer can access any of the Places folder and get an error - file not found.
I can open Computer, partitions and devices, just not the first 7 folders which i think are bookmarks.
Thanks for helping, U.
Ok, I eventually solved it. Appears I had inadvertently selected another program as default folder openenr. Just opening any folder with right click - open with - folder openenr reassigned nautilus and opens Places folders ok.
Whilst clicking through my toolbar the other day I accidentally dragged a shortcut from my documents folder onto my desktop. Not particularly wanting it there and 'cut' not doing anything I tried 'Move To > Toolbar' and then made the somewhat dumbass mistake of pressing 'Merge' thinking that'd put it back. Instead it did exactly as it said it'd do (shock horror) and turned my documents folder into one unopenable link ie. 'The Link "Documents" is Broken. Move it to the Rubbish Bin? - This link cannot be used, because its target "/home/supergibbon/Documents" doesn't exist.'
Without any obvious Edit>Undo type option, I was hoping you may be able to get the folder back as I don't really want to lose all my documents.
I'm a bit of a Linux newbie so bear with me. I had a problem with Gnome-DO not starting on start-up. Searching this issue suggested that Gnome-DO was trying to start before a service that it needs to start and a script to fix the problem was provided:
Code: !/bin/bash
sleep 10

I've just installed a new 2TB disk. Its formatted as ext3 and mounted. Works fine.Only concern is that the lost+found directory is visible to normal users. The disk mount point is owned by root. ls -l showsdrwx------ 2 root root 16384 2011-03-24 10:36 lost+foundThe applicable line from fstab is/dev/sdb1 /var/wayfinder ext3 defaults 0 1

- root
- lost+found
And when I'm trying to reinstall a newer version of Netbeans, 6.9.1. it claims that there is already something running in 'root folder "The installer lock file exists at /root/.nbifile/.nbillock"
The question is - is those folders are needed for Ubuntu working? -If not how to delete them? And one more question - how to delete a programme from the 'Applcations-Programming'? I tried to do that via 'System-Preferencies-Main Menu' and tried to delete a previous version of Netbeans, but it didn't work, - nothing happens, the previous version is still there, so I have two ones - 6.9.1 and 6.9.
maybe everything changed while i was stuck in 10.3 but i noticed soonafter install, and am just getting around to asking:i find these directories in the system's root directory very surprising:
/.config (with one file inside Trolltech.conf, which is empty)
/.kde4
/.kde4/share (empty)

I installed 10.10nbr on my wife's eee 901. Now she cannot remember her password. I've tried booting to recovery to use the passwd command, but that does not work. I believe I encrypted the home folder when I installed. Normally if I don't encrypt home, then I enable auto-login.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was happily running Ubuntu Netbook Version 10.04 on my Dell Mini 10v, until I began having trouble booting up. I tried to upgrade to Ubuntu Netbook Version 11.04 to fix the problem. However, now I can not boot up unless it's to a USB drive with Netbook Version 11.04. I'd like to copy my files to an external hard drive so I can copy them to a new Macbook. However, when I boot to the USB and try to view my files in my HOME folder and other folders, they are X-ed out. They say that I don't have permission to view the files since I did not create them. Again, I only want to get the files onto an external hard drive and onto my Macbook. How can I gain access to my files?
View 2 Replies View RelatedOn a school network the Windows and Mac computers connect to the internet with no problem. The Ubuntu(10.04) computers are connected and work on the internal network but have major issues going out of the building. I can get to one or two webpages to open and the connection dies...Server not found. Ping within the network and there are no lost packages, if I ping outside many lost packages.
We are using SonicWall and think it could be blocking...but why only Ubuntu? This is the same behavior for Firefox and Seamonkey. It's also the same for the thin/fat clients and standalone units. I did try a fresh install with no effect. The internet actually works on the one machine with ubuntu 9.10. I brought a machine home and it connected to the internet with no problem.
Two things I can think of that would of caused this are:
1- we keep getting windows about missing applets, someone may have clicked delete
2- I connected a server to run fat clients w/ LTSP and discovered my server and the schools were handing out the same ip's.
I have been using ubuntu netbook 10.10 on my Dell Mini 9 for the past few month without any problem; it connects wirelessly to the internet via a wireless router. Yesterday in the middle of web surfing, suddently firefox cannot see any website outside of my home network (Firefox displays Server not found page). No help when I rebooted a few times and connect to my home network via wireless or even wire cable; it can access files in my network file server (DNS-321) but not the internet. My desktop computer running Windows Vista and ASUS media player has no problem accessing the internet.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI wanted to enable file sharing in for one of my folders under the home directory. I noticed that the 'not shared' and 'shared' always defaulted back to 'not shared'. And now I see what looks like an electrical plug icon symbol over the folder icon symbol like I might see used for some of the root folders. What does the new icon indicate about the folder attributes and why does file sharing default to 'not shared'?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to recreate all the folders from one directory to another without copying over the contents of the folder? I've been trying to do something like this,
Code:for i in `ls $X`; do mkdir $PATH/$i; doneUnfortunately $i is deliminated by whitespaces in the filenames and not the actual folders.
$X contains only other folders so I dont have to worry about regular files but any kind of more "advanced" solution would work.

I'm guessing I'd have to use some sort of .[jJ][pP][gG] to get all the pictures from other examples i've seen, but really not sure how to use that in a recursive cp.
