View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm relatively new to Ubuntu and am just trying to get basic functionality without having to punt back to Windows applications on Wine (such as Irfanview).All I want to do is step through photos (by pressing a key, such as the space bar) to view & then press a keyclick to move the good ones to a separate folder.
This is so fundamental that I must assume there must be software in Ubuntu which can accomplish those two simple tasks (step through a folder and move a file to another folder). Yet, I have The Gimp, GNU Paint, Krita, KSnapshot, XFig, XPaint, etc., and none of them appear to have this basic functionality (which Irfanview has, but on Windows).
What program can view and easily MOVE the photo to a stated directory in a single keystroke? Note: All the programs can "open a file" and "save as" but this is NOT the desired fundamental operation. The fundamental operation is:
- Press a key (spacebar would be nice) to scroll to the next photo in a folder.
- Press another key combination ("control + m" would be nice) to move the photo to a stated folder
- The "index" should NOT be reset (that is, the next spacebar should show the next photograph in the folder, not jump back, perhaps hundreds of photos, to the first photo as The Gimp does, for example, after a save).
- It's ok to set the move-to folder the first time, but it should not ask each and every time which folder as it should be the default for the move command after the first move.
Note: I also tried making the icons in the Nautilus browser huge and then control-click selecting the good ones, but that makes ALL icons at all times huge, and the scroll in Nautilus is atrocious, so, in effect, that was a failure. I need a graphic program that performs this simple task. This is so fundamental of a need (to scroll through and move just the good photos to a stated folder) that I find it hard to believe I can't (yet) find a graphics display program capable of scrolling and moving photos.
Can I safely remove the lost+found folder from a disk that is going to be used exclusively for music?

I will be using the Scheduled Tasks front end to schedule the syncs. What should the syntax look like when I put it in Scheduled tasks. I want this to be as simple as possible.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAt the moment I use Rhythmbox to acces my music and my iPod 5G. I would however like to use Banshee, but in Banshee all my iPod 5G-music is displayed under the video folder, while the music folder is empty. Any idea why?And also I have several albums with different artists on them, which gets spread out on i.e. 10 single albums even though they belong to the same album. This happens - as far as I can tell - after I've accessed the iPod from Rhythmbox (which is part of the reason why I wanna use Banshee).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI dual-boot, and in Windows, I use an awesome program for music maintenance called MediaMonkey, which sadly, isn't Open Source, but still awesome nonetheless. Anyway, one of the things it lets you do is sort and import your libraries by practically any format you could find imaginable. I have that program setup to import and store my music in the following format:
G:Tunes<Genre><Album Artist><Album><Track Number> - <Track Artist> - <Track Title>.<Extension>
Is there a way to change the default setups in whatever music program I choose to use? It seems to be the same no matter what program I use if it's a GNOME-based program. I've used Banshee and Rhythmbox, but both only leave me with the following options:
Folder:
Album Artist/Album/
Album Artist/Album Artist - Album/
Album Artist/Album (Year)

I have created a folder including some html link pages in /test/htlink . Now I want to create a soft link of that folder as htlink -> /test/htlink in /var/www/html . Now when I m browsing the folder , its erroring (404 Not Found) folder is not found on the server . I have given 777 permission on every file-folder in /test . No firewall & no SELINUX .

View 2 Replies View RelatedBanshee does not watch the Music folder. I add music to my music folder and I have to rescan the music library every time to get Banshee to see it. I thought the library plugin was supposed to to that.
How do I get it to watch it so I don't have to rescan every single time?
I recently installed Chromium and went to listen to one of my favorite podcasts, only to find that it wouldn't play. Like the title says, it plays perfectly well in Firefox. Is there some Chromium extension I need in order to play .mp3 files?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm not familiar with Linux and I do not understand technical wording at all. I was given this laptop as a favour and it is an ex-work Dell Latitude. I was given this to help me as a replacement when my Compaq working with Windows Vista stopped working. I do not understand the way Linux works much. I managed to upload photos before from my Ericsson K850i to my memory stick but this time when I tried it kept telling me that the path was invalid and such things which I did not understand. I created a folder for 2011 photos ready to go next year but the mouse pad is hard to control and even though I did nothing the 2010 folder went into the 2011. Sorry if I am not being very clear.
All I want to know is where did my whole years worth of digital photos go from my memory stick as I didn't delete anything. Would someone please help me understand all the different extensions or tell me what I need to do to try and retrieve them. I would be so grateful. I was nearly crying when it happened as when you right click in Linux there is no Undo/Redo button.
I have searched the board and I did see some other questions but I don't think they will help in this instance so I have started one. I hope I can get my photos back and also hope to hear from someone soon.
When I was in Win XP I was happy with iTunes; now in OSuse 11.2 it has been difficult to find a functional replacement for it. Banshee donwloads my video and audio podcasts but can't replay them within the program. I have to go manually (Dolphin) to the corresponding folders and replay them using mPlayer, which is not very handy / fiendly. I tried to install Miro, and so far has not worked (see post here)

I have no sound after upgrading to 11.04. Sound control panel and test speakers emits no sound. The new music player won't play sounds from music CDs either.

I've had an awkward problem lately: every music player I use wants to instead of play music from my USB external hard drive, stream music from it. I have no idea why it suddenly started doing that. It may have been an accidental key-combo I pressed, thinking I had another window targeted and didn't bother pressing it again for my Totem music player. So I closed out of Totem in hopes that Rythmbox would work like totem used to. Well, it doesn't. It wants to stream music now.The problem with the streaming music is trivial, but here it is: I have a playlist with a little over 300 songs. I have Totem set to shuffle and repeat my music. Streaming music with it makes it just stop randomly after a few songs, and when I try to pause music and play it later it takes a good 30 seconds before it kicks back in at the beginning of the song.Like I always ask because I don't know enough to give back to the community yet, can anyone help me? Thanks.

In the mpd configuration file I have to point to the directory in which the music is.
How do I do that? Is it something to do with mount?
I've installed Silkypix (tried 2.0 and 3.0SE) through Winedoors in Linux Mint Helena and keep getting coloured stripes across the photos. It actually works if I ignore these stripes but I wonder if it could be fixed...? I also tried Linux raw converters Rawtherapee and UFRAW but they don't seem as good, especially the noise reduction function. Can I fix Silkypix or is there another Linux software that is comparable?

I have several dozen photos from my camera that I would like to rename in batches such as tulips01.jpg, tulips02.jpg, etc. In Windows I could highlight them and right-click to "rename" to do the lot. I understand that "renaming" is now changing a "property" but I cannot find the simple way to do an entire lot at a time.

I can't seem to get it to work. It shows up as a camera with 86MB of available space. I can access the photos that are on the device, but nothing else. I really would like to be able to transfer music to the device, but nothing seems to work. Rhythmbox doesn't even seem to recognize that it's there, the device isn't showing up in /media, and I can't seem to get a mount point. Has anybody out there had any success in this area? I've tried on both my 10.04 Desktop and 10.10 laptop machines

View 8 Replies View RelatedBest way to handle my photo collection, and though I love Picasa a great deal, I got tired of having to go through all 15,000 of my photos and retag them whenever I restored my computer from backups (which happened twice in the past year). I am now using Digikam, which I prefer because it saves tags and all that kind of info to the image file metadata. I would like to stick with Digikam exclusively but for one thing: the plugin that should allow me to e-mail photos is not working.
When I go to Image => Email Image and select "Gmail Agent", the result is "Failed to start "gmailagent" program. Check your system." Not sure what to check or where. I have also tried to use the Evolution option to mail photos, but I have never been able to figure out how to use an e-mail client; I have always used webmail. Perhaps it's not even possible to use Evolution to manage Gmail? Dunno. Not my primary concern.
I would gladly ask Digikam support about this, but after creating a new Bugzilla account for the purpose, it continues to tell me my login name is invalid. Maybe later. I am running Lucid with Ubuntu Studio on a dual core HP G61 laptop.
I've downloaded some podcast files and I wonder how to set the genre field of their ID3 to "Podcast"? so that my phone can detect them as podcasts and play them in its media player.
I used ID3v2, ID3, ID3tool and blah, blah, blah! but all of them have a big hug list of know genres except the Podcast genre. And you can not choose a genre which is not in their list.
All I want is an ID3 tool to set the genre field of a MP3 file to exact word I want.
