Ubuntu Multimedia :: ATI Radeon 5750 Drivers?
Apr 18, 2010I just installed Ubuntu 64 bit (I had 32 bit before) and I want to get my graphics card working. I have an ATI Radeon 5750 hd card. I tried to use the proprietary drivers from "hardware drivers" but I get a watermark in the bottom right hand corner of the screen and the resolution is terrible. Also, the whole screen seems to be vibrating, which kills the eyes, so I got rid of that driver.
I also tried to download and install the driver from ATI website [URL]... but ubuntu couldn't open the pakage. I gave me some error message about the "encoding text" or something like that. So how (if it's possible) do I get my video card working so that I can use compiz and run 1080 resolution? I have been through tons of threads but none of them helped my any.

Aug 19, 2011I'm fairly new to fedora. I used Fedora 14 on a virtual machine just to mess around with it a little while back but thats about it. As far as linux goes, I just test a bunch but can never seem to pull myself away from windows. I am hoping this is the time but these issues are the weirdest I've seen on any linux distro ever. My GPU (Radeon 5750) is running at 69C idle and the fan is at full speed. I am not overclocking it at all and I'm using the default drivers that came with fedora. It works just fine in windows and a lot cooler. How can I fix this?
I'm running the Gnome 3 desktop version, which I am also getting some graphics artifacts. In the bottom bar I get a dashed white line that comes up every time I boot and goes away when I make the bar expand. Also in the applications window I get the same dashed line at the top of the window and sometimes the top of the scroll bar. So far I really like Gnome 3 (Idk why everyone is whining about it) and I'd like to stick with Fedora, and linux for that matter
Ubuntu Multimedia :: ATI Driver And Radeon 5750
May 13, 2010I installed Lucid when I had my Nvidia board in the computer. Yesterday I pulled out the nvidia board and installed my new Radeon 5750. Hearing that the Open Source driver is the way to go, I first decided to try that. I edited xorg.conf replacing "nvidia" with "radeon", since this is the module name (right?) but it still doesn't seem to load. Does anyone have an example of what a properly configured xorg.conf is supposed to look like using the ATI Open Source driver? I get X up and running in "low graphics mode", but can never get beyond that.
Trying to turn on window effects causes a "searching for drivers" dialogue to appear and then disappear without success. A quick "glxinfo |grep -i render" indicates that it is indeed in the software mode. I even tried to manually modprobe the radeon module and restart GDM, but still nothing. At first I thought this was a limitation of the Open Source drivers on 5xxx series boards, but this page suggests that it should work in "gold" status. I have since installed FGLX and it is just terribly buggy, so I am hoping to use the Open Source driver.

Aug 31, 2010I just finished building my new machine. I've got windows 7 running just fine on it, but I wanted to dual boot Ubuntu 10.04. I downloaded the 64 bit iso and tried installing it from both a live cd and a usb drive. When I boot from either (cd or usb), I see the Ubuntu loading/boot screen, but after the data is loaded, my display goes black and seems not to be able to find a signal. I assumed initially that it was probably due to the fact that I was connecting to my tv by HDMI cable. I guessed that Ubuntu did not have HDMI drivers for my video card, ATI Radeon HD 5750, by default. Then today, my new monitor arrived and I switched to the DVI output on my video card. I assumed that this would allow me to boot and install. I was wrong. I experienced the same symptoms on my monitor via DVI as I did on my TV via HDMI. why my monitor drops the signal as soon as it leaves the loading/boot screen?

The proprietary drivers for this card don't support the xorg version installed in F14. I've tried mesa and ati drivers but I can't get them to actually work, they both just cause x to crash during startup. I've looked through the threads for ati drivers but they all seem to talk about using the latest catalyst drivers and thus non of them have helped me much.

Aug 10, 2009I've loaded Fedora and must say what a nice OS! But I'm having some issues getting the video working correctly so let me jump right into the issue. The video is very garbled and hard to read. can't seem to find a way to correct what would appear to be a driver issue. Here are a list of things tried:
- display works fine with Ubuntu
- display is clear but is chopped off when using an external monitor from onboard vga slot
The video card is an ATI radeon and the linux drivers from the ATI site don't work with the new images that are out yet.

Nov 26, 2009I just upgraded to Fedora for the first time. I've been using Debian 32-bit forever. I thought I'd try Fedora 11 64-bit. Everything was working fine until yesterday's LAN Party. I could not setup a BZFlag server that others could connect to until I booted up a KNOPPIX 32-bit DVD! Is there something buggy about the 64-bit ethernet drivers or am I missing something here

May 22, 2010I just installed the Fedora 12 live CD, but the driver for my EnGenius EUB 9801 (rt2870) USB WiFi adapter is not installed. I tried some of the suggestions found on this forum, but since I'm new at Linux I haven't yet been successful with installing the driver.
Does anyone know if the much larger DVD ISO already contains the driver built-in for the rt2870 for Fedora? If so I'm thinking it would be easier (for me) to just download the DVD ISO and re-install FC12 using that to get my WiFi USB adapter working.

Jul 27, 2009i m trying to fix the nvidia drivers and stuff to let Desktop Effects work. I reboot after some changes, and at first I got a kernal error message, and the Fedora froze. So I restart,, and it freezes before I even get the error message. Pop in the live cd, booted up from it so I can talk to my fedora friend, and the reboot to try again. Works, still hasn't froze, and I could get the actual error info.

Fedora Hardware :: Replacing Radeon 9550 With Radeon X1300/X1550 - Low FPS
Apr 4, 2010I replaced an ATI Radeon 9550 with a Radeon X1300/X1550, in hopes of better performance.
My System: P4@3GHz, 1.5Gb RAM, Fedora 12, kernel 2.6.32.10-90.fc12.
Faults: Screen refresh is extremely low. Glxgears outputs 25 FPS. Dragging windows around is sometimes really slow.
What I did so far, in hope of fixing it:
1. Installed 'system-config-display', for providing an xorg.conf
2. Did: yum --enablerepo=rawhide update mesa-dri-drivers-experimental mesa*, fixing this, but to no avail...
I cannot find any errors in the log...I don't know what to do...
I am posting my Xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log and Glxinfo through links to pastebin.com
POST UPDATE:
When running GlxGears, I get a bit of motion, and then the gears freeze for 1 second. And this goes on and on. But...if I move the mouse around, I get 1100FPS!
Now I messed a bit with xorg.conf and the "SWCursor" Option, but the above happens when this option is on "true". On "false" there is no 1100FPS, only the freezing loop...

Feb 14, 2010I've read so many howto's and threads but never managed to get a decent font size on my tty's. Before grub2 I used to use vga=795 (or something like that), but now that isn't working anymore. I have a 24" Samsung screen and the font size is HUGE. Has anyone with same hardware succeeded in setting a decent resolution? I've played around with gfxpayload and all that stuff. I'm using fglrx driver on an up-to-date system.

Unfortunately I'm having trouble finding proper driver support for the ATI radeon x1200 as described by another poster:
You should still be able to get full 3D support for your hardware by downloading & installing the drivers manually.
This is where it gets complicated, unfortunately.
ATI dropped support for some "older" 3D devices some time back (actually not all that old in many cases - it made a lot of ATI card owners very upset). So I'm not sure which drivers you'd need to download & install to get your 3D hardware working.
The Radeon x1200 device in your notebook is, confusingly, not the same as a desktop Radeon x1200 card.

Im running Ubuntu 10.04 with a X1200 series graphics card. 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc RS690M [Radeon X1200 Series] [1002:791f] The setup seemed to go fine and I restarted as it suggested. but now when I attempt to open the new catalist control center application it gives me a message about not detecting any Radeon components or I need to configure them. Sadly this message isnt copy/pasteable.

Jan 30, 2010I just built myself a new 64bit computer, but I'm having a little trouble getting it going. At first I put windows 7 on it, but it requires 1gb of RAM just to run it's basic programs, and it's all bogged down with all these useless programs, and when I tried to turn off some programs to make it faster, half my stuff stopped working all together, because they required all these programs just to run other programs, it's just absolutely ridiculous.
So I looked into Linux, and after asking around a bit, I installed Debian. It's exactly what I want in an operating system, completely customizable, but I guess I've been spoiled by microsoft and I'm not that good with all the command lines and configuring the kernel.
Righty now I'm trying to get my video card going, but I can't even figure out how to get the drivers installed. I went to amd.com and got the drivers, but when I try to just put them in the bin, but it keeps telling me I don't have administrator priveleges, but I do. Then I tried following this manual wiki.debian.org/Manual-Howto#Atibinarydriver]Manual-Howto - Debian Wiki , but I got stuck at the part where it tells me to copy and edit my xorg.config. When I go to copy, it tells me the directory doesn't exist, but it does. And when I go to edit the xorg.config, it tells me I don't have priveleges again.
So is there any easy way to get my video card installed, or do I really have to create this new kernel and go through this whole long process? My motherboard has hybrid crossfire technology, am I able to use that with debian?

May 14, 2010Can anyone update me a little on the current styate of Radeon Drivers? I have a laptop with an RS690M video card on Slackware64 & Slamd64
There is
1. Kernel driver (drm/radeon.ko) but I am finding it difficult to find comments on it, except that it does some power management stuff
2. Proprietary fglrx had a recent significant update, and now talks to my card after a fashion (Experimental support)
3. OSS Radeonhd for X, which I gather is probably the worst atm but it's what I have in xorg.conf
4. OSS radeon driver, which is supposed to have more work done on it.
I don't need framebuffer stuff - the screen is hard enough for me to read as it is, but I do like to watch the occasional tv program or dvd and I'd like the video to be keeping up in full screen. ATM, Xvid, Opengl, and just about everything fails to, except sdl.

Mar 14, 2016i just migrated from fedora to debian, and i already love this system. it only seems that i am facing a serious problem with this graphic card.running on debian 8.3.booting my system, i do get this message:

already tried both, the open source and the proprietary drivers, and both cause serious problems.
i tried to install the proprietary driver following these instructions: URL...
after restarting the system i get a black screen with a blinking cursor at the top left corner, and that's it.
then tried to install the open source driver following these instructions:URL...
but after restarting the system my monitor goes into some sort of a "sleep monitor mode", and that's it.in both cases i wasn't able to boot the system through the recovery mode, so i didn't know what else to do and re-installed the whole system each and every time i tried a driver.let's say i have installed the system like 5 times in the past 12 hours.
OpenSUSE :: PC Speed Under 11.4 - Radeon Graphics Drivers From YaST
Jul 28, 2011I've recently managed to install 11.4 with both Gnome 2.32 and KDE 4.6, moving from 11.3. However, there seems to be a significant speed degradation in terms of opening applications, switching windows, clicking on links etc. I have installed the Radeon graphics drivers from YaST, without much success. IMHO, Gnome seems slightly faster than KDE; however, it's still not great.
My machine worked well with 11.3 and seemed to be going pretty well; however, I wanted new and shiny, so. The PC has an AMD dual-core chip (can't remember the exact spec). Alternatively, is there good benchmarking software I could try to see if I can get an idea of my real speed?
