Fedora :: Postfix 2.7.0 Ignoring Main.cf Params

Aug 31, 2010

I've recently upgraded my home server from fc5 to fc13 which means installing the latest version of postfix (identified as 2.7.0 in the maillog). It is used to send mail from cron jobs and logwatch to a local mailbox (aliased) and my googlemail account so I can monitor when away from home. I finally got it working, but had to pull a trick that I feel bad about--it feels very hacky, and does not survive a reboot.The problem is no matter what I do, this version of Postfix ignores the settings for "masquerade_domains", "myhostname" and "mydomain" in main.cf, using instead whatever 127.0.0.1 (or :::1) is set to in /etc/hosts!!

To send mail to Internet locations, the "from" needs to be a valid domain. In an earlier version of Postfix (2.6.x) I just fudged this to a domain I own (that is parked) in main.cf using "masquerade_domains". Now I have to insert it in /etc/hosts instead of "localhost". I can't find anyone on the web who seems to be having this problem. Postfix is definitely reading main.cf as it is obviously picking up other setings such as debug_peer_level and proxy_interfaces.

As I said, it works, but I don't like my solution and /etc/hosts gets rewritten to ":::1 localhost6.localdomain6" when the system is rebooted, meaning I have to edit it to get Postfix working again as sendmail rejects "localhost6.localdomain6" as not found:

Programming :: Unable To Dynamically Create An Array Of Params For Execv In C

Jan 6, 2011

I haven't programmed in C for a while, so I am trying to remember certain aspects of syntax. I have a program that will fork and exec other programs. Those programs will be specified on the command line as follows:

./main "prog1 arg arg ..." "prog2 arg arg ..."

Here is the main snippet:

int countChar(char* s, char c)
{ int cnt = 0;
int len = strlen(s);
for(int i = 0; i < len; i++)

[code]....

The highlighted line is the problem. I get this error:

dualstarter.cpp:58: error: initializer fails to determine size of 'params'.

Right now I am thinking of creating an array with the specified size and simply copying the required string into it, but it just seems like there is an easier way.

Server :: How To Access Local Part / Domain Part Of Email Address In Postfix's Main.cf?

May 24, 2010

I'm trying to figure out how to access the local part and the domain part of an email address in postfix's main.cf. For example, myname@mydomain.net has myname as the local part and mydomain.net as the domain part.I get the whole email address with %s. I want to speed up the lookups by writing better database queries.I've had no luck finding this in the otherwise well documented postfix.

Fedora :: Screensaver Ignoring Configured Settings?

Dec 22, 2010

I am using F14 installed from DVD, updated to the latest bugfixes for all packages; I also have the nvidia proprietary drivers installed.I have configured my gnome-screensaver using gnome-screensaver-preferences to have a delay of one hour before it blanks the screen. However, no matter the settings I choose (even testing with only a 1 minute delay) the screensaver always kicks in at the 10 minute mark. This persists no matter the graphics driver I use.The only means by which I can stop the screen from locking while watching videos online is to kill the gnome-screensaver daemon.What information should I provide to assist in determining why this is happening? It's very aggravating. I'll include my current xorg.conf in the event that it may help.

Fedora :: Display 'sleep' Ignoring User's Settings?

Aug 8, 2011

installed Fedora 14 on my desktop a couple of days ago. For the most part, it seems to be fine, but I've got a problem with the 'put display to sleep when inactive for' setting. From the desktop, I've tried going to system/preferences/power management, where I've set the display to go to sleep when inactive for 30 minutes - however, it instead goes to sleep after five minutes. The same applies whether I set it to 10m, 30m, 1hr or never.

Having looked online, someone mentioned gconf-editor as a fix to another issue, so I decided to give that a try as well. Under /apps/gnome-power-manager/timeout, I tried setting sleep_display_ac, sleep_display_battery and sleep_display_ups each to 1800 ("The amount of time in seconds before the display goes to sleep" - 30mins, by my maths) on the off-chance that the OS had incorrectly detected the power source, but the display again went to sleep after five minutes.

If it makes any difference, I'm not using a screensaver, and I think the kernel I have installed is 2.6.35.13-92.fc14.i686 (that's what's given in System Monitor). I've also tried running yum update, again just on the off-chance it'd fix something, but everything is up to date.

Server :: Updated Postfix Not Running After Transferring Over Users From Older Postfix?

Feb 25, 2011

I recently moved over user from an old box running postfix(v 2.0.16) over to rhel 6 running postfix (v mail_version = 2.6.6). ive tried to make sure all the files are of correct permissions and that the main.cf file is configured corectly. However there is something wrong as when i run postfix: service postfix server i get no error but when checking the status:service postfix status i get: master dead but pid file exists Looking into /var/log/mailog i find this line being the issue:

Feb 25 16:24:39 puny1 postfix/master[3517]: fatal: fifo_listen: create fifo public/pickup: Permission denied

I gather this is a file permission issue and ive tried to make sure the public folder in /var/spool/postfix is correctly set but still no avail.

I was trying to write a graph plotting program with c++. I need to convert the infix expression from user to postfix expression for quick evaluation. However, the evaluation of postfix is kind of interpreted, and thus kind of slow for evaluating huge number of values. Say if I plot an implicit function the penalty is quite huge. Is there a way that I can compile the infix expression from my running graph plotting application for high speed evaluation.

CentOS 5 :: Switch From The Default Sendmail To Postfix Doing A Yum Install Postfix On 5.2

Dec 12, 2008

I have isntalled a server with Centos 5.2 OS, now I would like to switch from the default sendmail to postfix doing a yum install postfix I've noticed there is already available an rpm version for the OS but I would like to compile my own 2.5 version, I've noticed compiling from source does not allow me to use the mail switcher to tell to the system I'm gonna use Postfix instead of Sendmail as the default MTA while this is possible when I use the "official" rpm version of the package. Now my question is this, would this be a problem? There is some specific procedure/best practice I should follow? Or once compiled and configured Postfix I can safely disable/uninstall sendmail?

But, if the driver upgrade fails, then the OS won't boot. I tried going in with a Knoppix live DVD, but it could only access Fedora's /boot partition, not the main OS mounted on /. Therefore, I couldn't change undo the selection of the nvidia driver and back out.The output of mount is:

Fedora :: Change Gnome 'Main Menu' Icon?

Jun 13, 2009

The Gnome desktop environment in Fedora permits a range of themes to be used, including icon sets. Some themes will include an icon for the Gnome Main Menu that you may or may not like including the default Fedora "infinity" Main Menu icon.Most launchers, whether on the desktop or on a Gnome panel, will permit you to change the individual icon. The Gnome Main Menu offers no such facility. Whereas there have been several challenging methods suggested to change that icon on a system-wide basis, there is an easy and straightforward way to do it on a user account basis.

Note: the method described herein applies only to the single Main Menu icon usually added to a Gnome panel in place of the custom Menu Bar that Fedora creates by default. This method does not work with the default custom Menu Bar. To add the Main Menu to a Gnome panel, right-click a blank area of a panel and select Add to Panel, then select "Main Menu" from the box that appears. Move the Main Menu icon to your desired location by right-clicking it and selecting Move. Remove the original custom Menu Bar by right-clicking it and selecting Remove From Panel.Install Gnome Configuration EditorInstall the Gnome configuration editor program using either System > Administration > Add/Remove Software or the command line (as root):

Code:
yum install gconf-editor

Fedora :: How To Switch To Dual Booting On Main Machine

Nov 18, 2010

I'd like to switch to dual booting on my main machine. However, I'm like, a really serious competitive gamer. I play in leagues, go to LANs and performance is my greatest concern here. If I dual boot Fedora & Windows, will I have any performance issues with Windows, while booting in Windows, if I have Fedora on the same hard drive?

I don't think there should be any issues but I would like some clarification or nformation on it. Searching for 'gaming' with Linux isn't very information when it comes to dual booting, so I was just wondering.

TL;DR: Will dual booting Windows & Fedora cause any CPU/GPU/LAG/performance issues while I boot into windows and play a game (Source, TF2, Unreal Engine Games...etc)?
