If I have a panel larger than standard size, the notification icons scale accordingly but the indicators stay the same size so it looks pretty rubbish. I would like the notification icons to stay the same size.How can I fix it?

I have a question about the icon sixe in gnome menues. I installed the program Calibre and the icon that shows up in the menues is like 4X the size of all the other icons. All the others are fine just Calibre.How do I change the icon size to match all the others?

View 9 Replies View RelatedIn trying to solve a friend's lack of foresight, i have currently disabled my system.
I was using dd_rescue to make a copy of a drive with a corrupt and unfixable Partition Table. I was a fool, and had a drive mounted to /media/Storage, but ran the backup to /media/storage.
Thus, dd_rescue completely filled my primary drive before informing me that there was a problem.
I don't really trust myself with command line work, so I foolishly sudo'ed nautilus and deleted the folder /media/storage.
Unfortunately, I didn't realize it, but the available space on the drive still read 0bytes.
I tried Terminal work to do a sudo apt-get clean command, but for some inane reason, the laptop screen won't support the display setting for the Terminal login, so I just had to hope that I was doing it right.
I wasn't, and decided to try working from a Live CD so I could see what I was doing.
the folder /root/.Trash/ doesn't exist on Ubuntu's install drive, and I can't figure out why the properties of the drive say "contents: 241310 files, 3.7 GB" but also "Total capacity: 52.8 GB. Free space: 0 bytes"
Any suggestions on how I can get this to shake out?
Have a piece of software I have to use for work, which I'd expect to minimise down to the icon notification area. The Linux version doesn't, but running the MS version via WINE it does this.I'm using Fedora 10 with Gnome desktop, the software is an enhanced chat client that is linked to the phone system called MXIE.It isn't really make r break, but I'd really like to be able to resolve it. Is there anything I could be doing to fix this? Or is it something that is in the rpm that I've installed? As an aside,n't know it it's important, but the Linux version had no icon, and I have to manually add this to my main menu icon list.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI currently use mail-notification to alert me to new email, it sits in the system tray. When a new mail comes in it alerts me as such. I DO NOT have to have thunderbird open or running to be notified. I want to replace mail-notification with indicator messages. I want the same functionality that I got with mail-notification. That is, to have an icon sitting in the notification area that alerts me when new mail arrives. I do not want to have thunderbird open for this to occur.
I have lib-notify installed. I have the notify add-on installed in thunderbird, I have indicator-messages installed. I have thunderbird.desktop in /usr/share/applications I have a file called thunderbird that has one line which is the path to the desktop file above in /usr/share/indicators/messages/applications/ With this when i click on the icon in the notification area i DO see the listing for thunderbird, but the icon is not correct, it has a black bacground with a red circle in it with a slash. When i click on this item thunderbird launches. I do not recieve notificaion messages (i.e the letter icon does not turn green) unless i open thunderbird and check for messages manually. This defeats the purpose of having a notification in the system tray. Additionally changes made to /usr/share/applicatons/thunderbird.desktop are not reflected in the indicator.
I've installed Office 2007 under wine, and would like to add launchers for Word, Excel, etc to the Unity launcher bar.
So, I've created a launcher on the Desktop that will run Word with wine. I've changed the icon to the Word Icon and everything works great from the desktop. If I drag that launcher to the Unity bar, it adds it, but changes the icon to the springboard default icon that new launchers use. Please see attached picture.
As a side note, I am really starting to like Unity (puts on flamesuit), but it seems very easy to break the install of 11.04. I've had to reinstall 4 times now.
I am trying to use the indicator applet instead of the old notification area. I've noticed that just like the notification area, the indicator applet get its icons from the "status" folder of whatever icon theme you're using. However, I've tried changing various status icons for different programs and the changes are never reflected in the indicator applet. Updating the gnome icon cache, rebooting the pc, and removing/readding the indicator applet do nothing. Does the indicator applet have some other secret icon cache that needs to be cleared?

Next thing, gaps between icons are smaller than before. I tried change theme to default (Adwaita), then run gtk-update-icon-cache, but without result.

I know the me menu is suppose to show my user name and icon above the text box but I'm not seeing it. is there some way to fix this? Also the text box is dark, I've seen screenshots where is is white. The text I type would be easier to see if the box was white. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I have already removed all the apps related to chatting/mail/social, but the icon doesn't disappear. If I remove Indicator applet I loose volume icon, which I actually want to keep.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an annoying problem. It started with the network icon in the indicator applet in gnome-panel. It just disappeared! Somehow I managed to get my network icon back (perhaps after a restart), but as soon as it showed up, my sound icon disappeared.
I followed some advice I saw somewhere that said to add another indicator applet. When I did I had my network icon on my pre-existing indicator applet and a sound indicator in the new one, but no network icon. Because I needed the sound icon, I closed the original. But, I'm still stuck with no network icon now. This is pretty frustrating.
I have the notification area displayed in my panel. Normally, it shows one speaker icon, one battery icon, and one wireless network icon. But now it occasionally shows 2 speakers and no wireless icon, or two batteries and no wireless icon. Sometimes rebooting fixes it. But it seems to be random. This used to work fine, and I can't figure out what I did to mess with it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was using both the Indicator Applet and the Notification Area applets in my panel but realized that very often when I started the system, the icons of these applet appeared mixed. Some items were duplicated (for example the keyboard indicator) where others were missing (sometimes the battery indicator, sometimes the sound indicator, etc). When that happened I had to remove them and add them to panel again.
This seems to be a bug that makes one applet interfere with the other (maybe because there are some items that appear in both but when you add both initially nothing is duplicated but after a system restart the problem happens).After searching for some way to fix this apparent bug without success I decided to remove the Indicator applet and keep just the Notification Area.
It works but then I don't have the sound applet anymore, because it was part of the Indicator Applet.
I searched for a standalone sound applet but I couldn't find any. Do you know of any such applet that I could install in the system? If I can find any it would be fine to me and I would be satisfied using just the Notification Area.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis happened upon boot-up this morning. Two volume control iconspeared in the notification area. One volume control icon is the real thing, the other appears to overwrite the network manager icon, which isn't showing up at all. If I left click on the "dummy" icon, it does nothing. If I right click and select About, it describes itself as the notification area, the same as if I right click on the little = handle to the left of the notification area. Ubuntu 9.10, system up-to-date.
