View 1 Replies View RelatedI hope somebody can find a solution for the following problem: I tried to install fedora 14 from the life cd on a Dell 6400 with windows XP already installed on it. During the installation process I wanted to shrink the ntfs partition of windows. The actual used size of the windows partition was well below the one I shrinked it to. But the shrinking takes forever ( + 7 hours ) and is still running, which does not seems normal to me. Any recommendations on how to proceed ( solve ) the problem? Processors are running at 99%, so it seems to perform some work. Can this process be cancelled, without harming the windows?

At the end of the day when I'm getting ready to leave, I close out of firefox, and it takes one of my duo core processors all the way to 100% and sit at the top of my processes in my Conky for 5-10 minutes before it finally closes. I've been googling for a couple days and have yet to come up with anything,
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a couple of problems - and am new to Fedora which, up until about three days ago, was flawless.Am using KDE on F13. (Gnome & LXDE are also installed.)First problem is easy to solve, I think. How do I prevent "inactive" windows from fading out? It's an incredibly inconvenient feature and utterly defeats the whole purpose of the "Always on Top" option! I can't seem to find the option anywhere? On to KPackageKit. It has been trying to update KDE for the last three days but always gets hung up with the message: "Waiting for Service to Start."I notice that this problem might be listed as a Bug? - but not entirely sure.Is there a straightforward solution to this or is it, in fact, a bug?It also wants me to repeatedly restart because a new Kernel 2.6.33.5-124.fc13 has supposedly been installed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe package manager runs when a user clicks on a .rpm file automatically. I tried clicking on it from a normal user dolphin window and it opened up but since it can't install to a /something directory, I had to run it as su. So I try to open dolphin as su and then click on my file. I see the package editor starting up (bouncy icon and a space in the panel) but it never actually pops up a window. Now when I click on the file from either user this is happening. What's going on? Is this a bug?
**update, it popped up from normal user after like 10x attempts and it said that the repository already exists and this is an unexpected error. what does that mean? what errors are "expected"?
I just got a popup from KPackagekit saying:
Code:
Distribution upgrade available.

Fedora 12 (Constantine)
Start upgrade now
Do I want to do this? Is it safe to do so? Can I roll back afterwards? Is there a better way to upgrade?
Does anyone know where to get documentation for KPackageKit? I've searched on KDEs web site and this forum without success. Also on Fedora.org and googling but nothing so far.I recently loaded this distro (F13) to try it out after using mostly openSUSE and some of the minimal distros. I'm finding there is quite a learning curve, even I started in linux with RedHat 5.1.

I'm having trouble with Vim in any terminal emulator I use. I have a link (vi) to vim. Occasionally it will take very long to load, whether I use 'vi' or 'vi file'. Before, if I could I would restart X, and then it would load instantly again, but I waited this time and it did load, after a minute or so. Is this a problem with X or vim?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy Firefox used to start instantly, or at least near instant, but since yesterday it took about 30 sec to launch. Opening subsequent windows is near instant, but once all windows are closed it would take a long time to open again.
When I open it up in a terminal, it has absolutely no error message, clean start up and shutdown.
I turned up the CPU clock speed from 1.2GHz to 2.0GHz and it doesn't seem to help. Other programs starts fine too, so I kind of ruled out performance issue.
Yesterday I also tinkered with compiz settings and also installed the cairo dock and some media codecs. But I can't pinpoint when does it happen exactly, I also struggle to draw any relationship if there is any. And if it matters Firefox is 3.6.10 and Ubuntu is 10.04.
It takes a few minutes to start during boot and I just did a fresh install in a virtual machine. Haven't touched sendmail so it has default config. Someone told me it could be a DNS issue, but I can do DNS lookups and navigate the web well.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince Livna went down, I've been having having problems with KPackagekit. I disabled the Libna repo by setting enabled=0 in /etc/yum.repos.d/livna.repo, and have been able to update with Yum.KPackageKit fails on me now with the message "Failed to initialize backend. This may occur if other packaging tools are used simultaneously."Then it fails to finish, which causes me to reboot before I can use Yum successfully.Under Settings, I see no indication that it knows where the repositories are, and no way to add repos.

When I reboot my machine, it seems to go pretty quickly. However looking at the log it seems that most everything is running after about 8.6 seconds, and then USB starts loading up. The first log entry regarding USB comes at 32 seconds, second one at 62 seconds. The keyboard starts working at 84 seconds and the mouse at 166 seconds.

I am using qBitTorrent. But whenever i am trying to download, it is having few issues.
1. It takes a lot of time to start the download. Last night it did not even start to download even after 15 mins. But when i put the same torrent in utorrent in Win7 partition it started to download immediately.. can somebody point out what is going wrong?
2. do i need to keep the qBittorrent open all the time till it finishes.. Otherwise it is not downloading... But in my Win7, when i close it, it automatically docks itself to the task bar.. (hav been using Win for a long time.. thats why i am comparing it to Win.. )
I have error in KPackageKit when i try to install anything or check for updates:
Failed to initialize packaging backend. This may occur if other packaging tools are being used simultaneously.
Details: There are unfinished transactions remaining. Please run yum-complete-transaction as root.
I don't know anything about other packaging tools - I think I don't using any. Yum works fine in terminal. Reinstall PackageKit and KPackageKit files doesn't helped me. I also try to rebuilt rpm db:
