We have a Blade server connected to a two internal ESM Cisco switch. We want to have a active-backup configuration with bonding. We follow the documentation and we hace configured the next:

I have this annoying problem since day one.I am testing out Red Hat RHEL5, everything is fine except DNS look up.If I ping www.google.com, it doesn't work, ping ip address it all works;if I bring up browser, put www.google.com it doesn't work, can't find the name, however, simply put ip address there it works.My DNS seeting seems ok, and the DNS works from Windows box.

I'm runnig f 13 on my laptop, and it runs like a charm. But once in a while, the internet doesn't seem to work properly. It mostly works, but right now i am unable to reach certain pages such at google (which is annoying), whereas other pages like yahoo and this one works perfectly well.

config files available, but to date, none of them have worked for me. Pulling out my trusty Wireshark, I've found some clues,
BACKGROUND:
My local subnet (NAT'ed by my gateway router) is 192.168.52.x. My router has been configured with a conduit (port-forward) for port 1194 (the standard OpenVPN port), which points towards my CentOS server.The CentOS server is .52.112, and the supplicant is .52.110. I have tried the lient both inside and outside my local subnet, with no difference in events or outcomes.

I had a corrupted superblock in my RAID boot drive (/dev/md0), which I fixed with fsck in Recovery Mode.
However, after rebooting, the same boot-up problem (hanging for hours) persists. When I re-enter Recovery Mode to examine the boot drive, I found its superblock was corrupted again (which I fixed again using fsck).
Is there a proper reboot procedure which is gentle on the boot drive, such that it doesn't corrupt it? Or, is something else amiss?
I am trying to monitor a Centos 5.3 box using SNMP and I am having a lot of trouble getting the data that i need from it. Everytime I try to get information from the UCD-SNMP MIB it returns "End of MIB". It is my understanding that UCD-SNMP is a standard package when Net-SNMP is installed and should always be there. Then why can't I access it? I have tried removing the reinstalling Net-SNMP, but that hasn't worked. My server is update date on all it's patches as well. It is quite old hardware, but I don't believe that should affect SNMP from being gathered. Iptables is down, and I cant' even get it from the local machine.

I am trying to install some packages in a ubuntu 8.10 server, however, apt-get doesn't work (I get several 'not found' errors). Is there any way to do that? I know this version is probably not supported anymore but I can't just format a customer server because it's OS is outdated...I just can't put my sources.list on it because I am on ubuntu 10.10 and it would download updates for the wrong OS probably causing a huge damage on the old one.

I drag and drop the pointer themes to the appearance window found from System>Prefrences>Appearances. When i click customize i see that the pointers i instatlled are there, however when i choose them it doesn't work properly, if i go over text or resize a window i see the new pointers but the main pointer always stays the default white.

Problem: Can't get bridging to work properly.
I'll start by saying that most of this is built inside of a 64bit ESXi 4.1.0 server. Should be obvious by the picture below.
Trying to set up a bridged CentOS box. Ultimate goal is to set up a Transparent Firewall. The machine labeled 'Desktop' is a Windows XP running DHCP. It gets assigned an Internet routeble IP address. At this point, nothing is running a firewall.
Symptoms:
Gateway can ping CentOS bridge
CentOS bridge can ping gateway
CentOS bridge can resolve DNS names and ping FQDNs on the Internet.
CentOS bridge CAN NOT ping Desktop

It doesn't ask for my password and instantly authenticates as root!
if I run the above posted script manually, (cd into the dir and execute it), it works fine and produces the result 1 if positive and 0 if negative.
I have a new installation of 11.04 with an ATI Radeon HD 2400 video card that previously worked fine under an earlier release.
I tried installing the proprietary drivers through the Additional Drivers section, rebooted and the video is choppy (dragging windows, etc).
From other reports around the Internet I've read, it's clear I'm not the only one experiencing this issue.
I tried the manual instructions, which turned out to be a mess and ultimately didn't work, either.
Wireless networking doesn't seem to work. When I try to create a new network interface with system-config-network, my wireless card doesn't show up. The following comes from dmesg:

I saw a post about this elsewhere and downloaded some firmware drives from [URL] and installed then. But, I'm really out of my league when it comes to this kind of stuff.
I had originally followed the advice at Mauriat Miranda's Fedora Nvidia Driver Install Guide [URL] for installing nvidia's display driver on my HP Pavilion system 64 bit running Fedora 11. I had used his first method which just installs the relevant kernel module kmod-nvidia from RPMFusion. He also suggested an alternate method: obtaining Nvidia's installer NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-185.18.36-pkg2.run and using that. I downloaded it from Nvidia, but I didn't run it.
I recently lost X. This had happened previously after a kernel upgrade, and I just used grub to boot an earlier kernel to recover X, and then installed the upgraded kernel module to fix the problem. But this time, being deeply involved in something else, I panicked slightly, and, using dumb terminal mode I ran the Nvidia installer. It asked me to make various choices and in response to my answers, it decided to compile a new kernel module. This recovered X, but I then compounded things by installing the updated kmod-nvidia.
I realized afterwards that using both methods might create some conflicts, but X seemed to run properly. (I can tell because graphics in the program Maple doesn't work properly with the default drivers provided by Fedora 11.) Since then, when I restart nvidia, I get.

When I installed it it says it was not a trusted package and now that it's installed, I cant find it in Synaptic Package Manager nor Ubuntu Software Center. View 9 Replies View RelatedI've tried ubuntu, kubuntu, fedora and linux mint. all 64 bit versions. I've also tried to suspend through applications like acpitool. But nothing works. When I click on Suspend, the screen goes blank but the computer is still running. The wireless network adaptor gets disabled for a second and then comes back on. All I have to do is press a key and I get the unlock screen prompt. Basically, suspend works like 'Lock Screen'. I have a HP Pavillion laptop. Core 2 Duo @ 2 GHz and 4 GB RAM.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have two servers that have been running link aggregation and VLAN trunking for years. I've installed larger drives in one and done a fresh minimal install. In spite of configuring as before the network will not come up. I did discover that a minimal install will not install vconfig which was causing one particular error when the VLANs tried to come up and this has been solved by installing vconfig. However, at this point the problem appears to be not bonding eth0 and eth1. /proc/net/bonding/bond0 indicates: "bond bond0 has no active aggregator"
If I put the old drives back in and boot the old OS everything starts up fine. I was even able to get it working with:
modprobe bonding
ip link set dev bond0 up
ifenslave bond0 eth0 eth1
service network restart
however, it does not survive a reboot. Is the a bug in the 2.6.18-194.11.4.el5PAE kernel or the network scripts? The the previous kernel I am running is 2.6.18-128.1.10.el5PAE For what its worth, these are the configurations:

I just tried setting my vga mode in grub.conf so that I can have my boot splash back after disabling nouveau. Works great. Problem is, now, that after doing this my touchpad is disabled. Anyone else run into this? I'm on an HP dv6, FC13, vga=0x37b. I remove vga mode setting and touchpad works again.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was upgrade my PC's RAM to 4GiB on 32bit platform, the problem is when I set AGP appture size to 64 MiB suse was detect physical memory at 3.4 GiB but when I set AGP appture size to 32 MiB or lower physical memory was detected at 3.6 GiB but I can only boot with failsafe mode, desktop mode doesn't work and screen goes to blank and I want to use the whole 3.6 GiB.

The administration panel is able to send emails through dovecot but not any of the user accounts (ie with webmail). I've done a bit of research with what could be wrong but haven't had any luck so far I am also having a weird problem with apache: on a c++/php bittorrent application I was going to be running on a subdomain of my main site I get a 500 error every time I try to log in. The only way to get rid of the 500 error is to clear the chache (so its horribly broken somehow). The error generated in the log whenever I try to log in is that "ffmpeg is already loaded" (which I am running on the main site and is critical). Is there a way of either repairing my apache install or excluding ffmpeg on the subdomain in the conf or something?

The problem appears when disconnecting an AP (from the electrical network). In this case, iwconfig shows the disconnected AP during 30-40 seconds after the disconnection.
I'm trying to figure out how to order the kernel to actually refresh the list of in coverage APs, and avoid to show nets that were in coverage but aren't now.
I uninstalled Empathy and installed Pidgin, because I just couldn't take Empathy's lack of features any more. The "Me" menu doesn't work properly with Pidgin, though. Every time I change my status via the Me menu, it knocks me off-line on three of my four accounts. how to disable (or even remove) the "Me" menu? It's only functionality is to control messaging and social networking services, right?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to use CentOS 5.4 to set up a secure laptop, largely because of it's SELinux functionality. Unfortunately I couldn't get wireless to work properly using the default NetworkManager so I installed wicd. Initially it buggered up my whole installation but after relabelling files using SEL I can now use my system again. but.. I can't use it with SELinux enabled, as it denies the required accesses for wicd to work. I also get similar SELinux denials for wpa_supplicant. A couple of snippets from /var/log/audit/audit.log -
