Ubuntu Networking :: Integrated Wireless On Netbook Won't Work
Oct 1, 2010
I have Ubuntu netbook edition 10.04 and i have an eMachines netbook and ive decided to get ubuntu. And i had many problems getting to work, but ultimatly got it to work pretty well. But my wireless will not work! And the driver for it wont install.
Heres the error message: SystemError: InstallArchives() Failed
And the wireless driver its installing is a Broadcom STA wireless driver.
I bought a netbook and couldn't handle windows xp at all, so installed ubuntu 9.10, but the wireless network icon doesn't appear on the top of the screen like it should, presumably because ubuntu doesn't automatically recognize whatever card is in there. This is an asus 1001-HA. could anyone assist me with getting this thing up and running on a wireless network?
I've just worked out how to get the wireless card working with an Acer Aspire D260 wireless card to work. Enter terminal command; sudo apt-get install wifi-radar
Then reboot ubuntu 10.04 after it has installed, network manager should now detect wireless networks in range and allow connection, right click network manager icon and select "Enable Wireless" or "Disable wireless" as required to turn on or off. So many others have had problems getting the wifi to work with Acer Aspire D260 netbooks and ubuntu 10.04.
I just finished installing a fresh install of openSuse on my old Compaq Presario V2600 laptop. The problem is, for some reason, it always boots to the terminal instead of starting x and the gnome desktop environment. I have to manually start x every time with the command startx. Then, after x has been started, the display is an unusually low resolution, and it wont let me change it. I tried running sax2 -r -m 0=vesa but this did not help fix the problem.
The second problem I am having is that my integrated wireless on the laptop does not work. It is a Broadcom 802.11 b/g WLAN. Please help with this as well (I know I will probably have to use proprietary drivers just like I did in Ubuntu, but I can't find how to install these drivers under openSuse.) If you need to know more about the specs of my laptop, here you go:
Make/Model: Compaq/Presario V2600 Processor: AMD Mobile Sempron 3100+ Graphics: ATI Radeon Express 200M RAM: 512 MB Operating System(s): Dual Boot between XP Pro and openSuse HDD: 40GB SATA
I have just purchased an Asus EeePC 1001HA netbook and I would like to install Ubuntu Netbook Edition 9.10 (love the look and the brilliant interface), but I can't get the wireless network to work. I am currently running from a 4Gb USB stick that has the LiveCD on it with a 1Gb persistence. The network notification area only shows wired and VPN connections. I have tried installing the Ralink 3090 driver but I have had no luck in getting the wireless to work.
I've been trying to use the wireless adapter that came shipped with my computer for a while now (it is NOT a USB adapter; it seems built into the computer). However, I can't seem to get it working.HP says that the driver is Lite-On USB Wireless 802.11 b/g Adaptor. I am currently connecting to the internet with my netgear USB adapter (I think the driver is something like prism_usb)
I have a compaq mini 110-1000 with integrated 3g modem and natty narwhal. I bought a vodafone data sim card, I've configured the network manager but it doesn't work! All solution I found are possible only with the hp connection manager. but I've removed windows!!

Been using Ubuntu for 1 yr now on my Dell Dimension 8250 but a newbie with my Averatec AV3270-EH1 laptop circa 2005. Ubuntu 10.04 does not detect the Integrated WLAN card/adapter. I've looked at all the forums/posts but none had the issue I have. When I type lspci into the terminal i get this back:
00:00.0 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. K8M800 Host Bridge 00:00.1 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. K8M800 Host Bridge 00:00.2 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. K8M800 Host Bridge

And when I type in iwconfig:
lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions.
I have a HP Mini 311-1000. I have installed OpenSUSE 11.4. I can't get the wireless to work. What do I need to do ? I have no network management widget ?
i'm using ubuntu 10.04 64bit and i have a netbook(model is hp mini 110-3004TU) with an integrated HD audio from IDT.the problem is that no sound is coming out from the speaker
My wireless device is an integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card, I am unsure about the driver I have in use. I am sure I have a driver installed because the configuration screen shows my network. I currently have the computer plugged into my network via CAT 5 but I would like to be able to use the wireless (obviously.) I am using Open SuSE version 11.2 and I have run the updater. I could not see my wireless network before running the updater and I can now so I know that the updates have helped but I am again stuck. I have tried to search the wireless forum and I have tried to tinker with the settings in YaST , but nothing seems to be working. Reading the Welcome page of the wireless forum, I tried the Broadcom chip-set advice:
[Code]...
I have read and taken to heart the advice given for receiving help and if any more is needed I will gladly give it. I have a small amount of experience with SuSE Enterprise edition so I can understand some technical stuff but I am best at following specific instructions.
I have recently switched my samsung n130 with windows 7 starter to the ubuntu netbook remix. When I go onto it, it doesn't even look for a wireless connection. All there is is a wired auto ethos. How can i get my netbook to recognize my wireless connection in my house?
I recently installed Ubuntu 10 on my netbook and it won't connect to the net via wireless. I have researched various sites but have not seen a resolution. One site says to disable the b43 driver by using System> Administration>Hardware Drivers but I don't see that option in my system under System>Administration?
Im a newb to ubuntu just wiped my brand new asus 1001p netbook of windwos 7 and put ubuntu netbook remix on it 9.10....Everything works great except the wireless...I know theres probally a billion topics on this, but i just need step by step easdy to follow guide on how to do this...I asked the IT at my work and he claims it cant be done, unless i switch out the internal wireless to a card that "just works", which im not comfortable with or use a usb wireless stick, which defeats the purpose of a netbook being so small....Im sure this can be done so please help me show up a IT that doesnt know linux .BTW the wireless card is a atheros thats all i know..
I just installed Netbook Remix 10.04 on my Lenovo S10 netbook and wireless is not working. I looked on google for some answers and saw that the Broadcom STA driver may be missing so when I tried to install it through Synaptic Package Manager it said that it was already installed. When I click on the wireless icon, it says under wireless that the device is not ready and I can't connect to any wireless networks, even if the SSID is not hidden. I am confused as I already have the driver and all the system updates but it still won't work.
Sometimes I meet problems conntecting my netbook with the wireless. It just tries too long to connect and even refuses my own network. Where to seek the problem? There is no error message...
I have a HP Mini1000 and recently switched over to Ubuntu. I followed the directions found here:[URL] However, I still cannot connect to wireless networks though my card seems to be scanning for them and finding them. I have tried connecting to open networks and ones that require authentication.
setting up a netbook's wireless access point (to allow remote connection to a network drive connected to the netbook). I know this sounds daft but there is a reason.I just switched workplace and have all my projects on one drive. However my new workplace's network only assigns ip to certain Mac addresses. So I can't just plug in the network drive. My new work desktop is MS loaded, warranty sticker sealed and shared so I can't change this.Well I will, but not in the first week.
The simplest solution I thought of was to bring in my ubuntu netbook connect this to the network drive and wirelessly connect the netbook to the new desktop this via a wireless USB dongle.I connected the netbook to the network drive with no problem using the wired card. I done this by adding
Code:
auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.4.1 network 192.168.4.0
[code]....
For the wireless bit, on the netbook, I right clicked on the network indicator icon and selected "Create New Wireless network" then entered a network name and WEP passphase.Over to the desktop (XP). I plugged in a wireless dongle, get it load the driver then selected my new network and entered the passphrase. It came up connected and sure enough I check and it got assigned a sensible IP.
All seemed well and I even connected my android phone with no issues. The phone and desktop can ping each other. However for some reason I can't actually ping or ssh to or from the netbook. So whilst it's happily providing the wireless network it can't use it itself.
p.s. Incidentally I am allowed to plug in USB drives so this isn't an access issue or me trying to sneakily circumvent rules. I even told my IT department about the wireless dongle plan.
After installing Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my Toshiba NB505, I hoped the wireless would just work right away, but it didn't. After much searching, I found these instructions (scroll down to High Horse's response at #3), which directed me to download the Realtek Driver RTL8192SE. I followed the directions to a T and everything was working wonderfully, until a recent restart that has taken me back to square one. I think the default Ubuntu drivers may be overriding the drivers I installed and putting everything back to default (no wireless), but I'm not sure. Here's the latest output:
i have the same problem, i installed fedora on my netbook without problems, but i can not connect for the same reason. 15 seconds before prompting me for the password and continues like this.
I installed lucid netbook edition on my friends netbook and I am unable to connect to their wireless. The netbook is dual booting with xp and while in xp it is able to connect but once i boot into lucid it is unable to.
I am just trying Fedora from a USB flash drive on my Toshiba Portege t110 netbook. But it does not seem to detect any wireless networks (although I definitely have a few available -- when I boot up with Win7 it can detect them without issues). I don't know if something is wrong or there are some special steps I need to do to get wireless networks working in Fedora...
I am using UBUNTU 9.04 on a HP mini notebook. I pratically never had problem connecting wireless with my netbook, expecially with this connection at home. Until yesterday. There were some line problems, that have been solved after some hours. Then I was able again to connect.
I didnt do nothing on the netbook. After 2 hours, connection gone. Now, even if other laptops are wonderfully connected (to the same line), mine has a dramatically slow connection (in the sense that is able to open just the first page of google if I am lucky) or no connection at all (even if the signal looks good on the network panel.
I tryed the help for wireless troubleshooting, checked for device recognition. Putting in terminal sudo lshw -C network Says disabled. But the device of the wireless on my pc is on, and it's also enabled in its panel.
Has anybody been successful in getting a N130 with a RTL8192E wireless chip to access the internet? Ive tried practically every suggestion quoted on this message board downloading drivers, from Samsung and Realtek which wont open also linux versions with the same result, trying the Ubuntu compilation of Wine etc, etc. Am about to give up, which is a pity, because the Netbook version Ubuntu is very user friendly.
I've just upgraded to Lucid Lynx on my Asus Eee Netbook, with Notebook Remix installed. I wqs glad to see that Canonical integrated the gwibber client into the desktop environment, as this gives me better opportunities to use my Twitter account properly. Unfortunately, i can't run "Set up broadcast account" when clicking the "letter-applet" icon. When running gwibber from terminal, I get this code...
