General :: Making MTS Data Card Work In Fedora OS

Feb 3, 2011

I purchased a new Desktop PC and MTS MBLAZE data card. It works in Windows XP OS. To make it work in Fedora GNOME OS how can I proceed? Which software do I need? Where do I get it and how to download and instal it in my PC? The firm selling the data card do not have an easy solution.

Debian Hardware :: Find Out What Is Making The Sound Card Work?

May 31, 2011

I have a Toshiba laptop and Toshiba netbook (both Intel chipsets). Laptop - Squeeze install gave me the 2.6.32 kernel and sound only worked thru headphones but not the speakers. Later on, I compiled kernel 2.6.36.1 (and just imported .config from original kernel) and sound WORKED perfectly. I had a few other errors ("address space collision" / PM error) so recently I compiled kernel 2.6.38, which solved other hardware issues but sound is back to original problem (works thru headphones but not thru speakers). I even installed the "backports" kernel (2.6.38.4) and it didn't make a difference.

Netbook - Did exact same things as above but no matter what, the sound never worked on it... same issue (sound in headphones.. no sound in speakers) So, how do I "reverse-engineer" the laptop working sound install with kernel 3.6.36.1 and make it work with later kernel (nothing... and I've tried about 30+ thread suggestions makes the sound cards work properly.. other than kernel 2.6.36.1)

General :: Making A Data Partition And Installation Of Buntu 10.10

Nov 28, 2010

I wanted to migrate from ubuntu karmic to the latest ubuntu 10.10, but i already have a lots of data on my hard disk in home directory. i was thinking if it is possible to transfer all the data to one directory and make a separate partition of it , so tht when i install a fresh copy of ubuntu 10.10 on my system i need not format this new partition ,which contains al my data.is it possible tht this new partition will automatically get mounted on the new system without the need to execute commands from terminal every time i start my system. if there is any other alternative way for solving this problem i would follow tht too.the reason for my migration is that karmic is really troubling me a lot and so many applications including my sound device have failed to work and i am not able to rectify them..

Fedora Hardware :: Making Kernel Modules For Asus PCI-G31 Wireless Card?

Feb 1, 2010

I've got a wireless card and would like to make a driver module for it from the ralink tarball. Here's the details:

1. The Asus PCI-G31 uses the RaLink RT2561/RT61 802.11g chipset.

Code:

lspci
<some output omitted>
04:03.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI

2. I am using the latest driver download from www.ralinktech.com which is

2009_0123_RT61_Linux_STA_v1.1.2.3.tar.bz2

3. I followed the documentation and I think it makes a script. Here's part of the README from the tarball.

Code:

Build Instructions:

1> $tar -xvzf RT61_Linux_STA_Drv_x.x.x.x.tar.gz
go to "./RT61_Linux_STA_Drv_x.x.x.x/Module" directory.
2> $cp Makefile.4 ./Makefile # [kernel 2.4]

Still the OS is not detecting the device. After the reboot of the machine, again the modules related to USB are missing.

Fedora :: Recover Data From EXT2 Device (Card Or Image)

Dec 25, 2009

I was testing a bug in F12+Acer Aspire One and its 'suspend' feature (you can probably find the thread) and I ended with my SDHC card messed up. I formatted it as ext2 (or ext3, don't remember exactly) and apparently its superblock got corrupted. For one thing there is a single file I want to recover from the card (I don't mind formatting it afterwards). I am no expert using e2fsck or fsck, that's why I am asking here. In addition I used the "dd" command to create a backup of the drive in a file (so I can start tinkering with it). What is the best course of action to recover my files? Either from the card or from the image?

General :: Install A PCIe Card For Data Compression In Ubuntu 9.10?

Jun 21, 2010

I am trying to install a PCIe card for data compression in Linux ubuntu 9.10(karmic Koala). As you can see in the following code although I have the root access I can not get permission to install the device driver. As I have the root access I suppose to get access to install the driver. I checked around and got the procedure from a web siteEnabling root access in unbuntuBasically in almost all linux machines we will be havingroot access for login.but in ubuntu by default that option was not enabled. If u want to have root login in ubuntu then u have to do some changes in ur Ubuntu machinesSteps to follow1.First enter into ubuntu as your user login.2.Then open the terminal and type the command sudo -s,it will ask for root access and type the password.3.Then type passwd root it will ask for new password4.Open terminal and go to the path /etc/gdm/5.Open gdm.conf6.search for AllowRoot=false7.and then change AllowRoot=true8.now restart ur machine9.now u can enjoy with root accessThe funny part is when I search for the file which is gdm.conf in the prescribed location, I can not find it.

Code:
root@faisal-desktop:/home/faisal/Desktop# cd AHA/
root@faisal-desktop:/home/faisal/Desktop/AHA# ls

I partitioned it using the Acronis (proprietary) partitioning software. I've had to move these around a bit when I initially set it up and at one point grub didnt work anymore. It was after I had to expand my Windows (7) partition. However I'm told that most modern software dont use the same unit of measurement that fdisk still uses 'til this day. Should I even be concerned? I did have to reinstall grub after I initial set all my partitions up. This post is merely a double-check to make sure.

I've just upgraded from F9 to F10. I can boot okay but I seem to have lost some data in one of my logical volumes. My drive is organised as follows:

/dev/mapper/main_group-various: UUID="f7c452cf-9f03-4f97-8676-b71b07a812aa" TYPE="ext3" SEC_TYPE="ext2"
/dev/mapper/main_group-root: UUID="173f1845-72c9-49e8-9d49-2a5776c4267c" TYPE="ext3" SEC_TYPE="ext2"

[code].....

The logical volume for work still seems to be there. I presume (and hope) that all the information in /dev/main_group/work is still there. How can the folders in /dev/main_group/work be retrieved?

I can't believe you guys are on 10.10 Already that's amazing been so many changes since I last joined in 2007. I have a few questions regarding my new laptop and Ubuntu I was hoping to get answered before I make the switch from Windows 7 to Ubuntu 10.10 Small tidbit: Using 64x Ubuntu Question #1: Will my ATI HD5730 Graphics Card be Supported?

- When I say supported I also mean some of the features, I Currently use a 62" LCD 1080p HDTV as my Monitor using an HDMI Output to my Surround Sound Receiver. Will I still be able to do this? and will my 5.1 audio output still work? Noticed when I googled it some people were having troubles with 5730

Question #2: Is the Core i7 840qm Supported?

Question #3: Has any large scale break troughs happened with Ubuntu and Gaming? Back when it was Gusty and Hardy there was little high end game choice, wondering if that has made any progress?

Question #4: Have people had Success with Ubuntu and Dell Studio XPS?

Fedora Hardware :: Wireless Card Won't Work / Fix This?

May 24, 2011

i'm new to linux, and recently installed fedora 14 on an old hp pavillion dv2700. it originally had vista home premium, but the hard drive crashed and had to be replaced with a new one, which had no os on it. i installed fedora several days ago, and everything worked perfectly until a day ago when suddenly the wireless card wouldn't turn on anymore.

my sister was using the computer (just videos) and a few seconds after she handed it back to me, the wireless light turned from blue to amber, and it said wireless was diabled, even though i hadn't touched the switch. before the computer crashed, it had a problem of the light always being amber when it woke up from standby, but flipping the switch off and back on would fix it. now no amount of wiggling and flipping seems to do the trick.

Fedora Networking :: Get Linksys WEC600n Card To Work?

Nov 26, 2009

First off I'd like to say if I hadn't put Fedora on my USB stick I'd never discovered that my old laptop had built in wifi, and it was just disabled in the BIOS. I was originally trying to get my Linksys WEC600n card to work. Once I turned on the internal wifi, and took out the linksys card, fedora picked it up right away. My problem is when I try going to websites they won't work, except for FedoraProject. (If I try to navigate to the FP forums it doesn't work either.) I'm not sure what would be the cause of this, so I have no idea where to start.

1. It had my wireless network in the list.
2. I put in my WEP key.
3. It appeared to connect fine.
4. Websites won't load.

I found a solution to my card reader problem in a another fedora post but when I type the code in terminal I get:
all config files need.conf /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
How to write this code so I wont get this error and I can load these modules and also how to edit the modprobe.conf.

The code is below, using fedora 13.
You must load these two modules to work with card reader.
First : Remove the card from the Reader!
AS superuser type in console :
1. /sbin/modprobe tifm_core <enter>
2. /sbin/modprobe tifm_sd <enter>

If you want to automate these modules loading do the following :
edit the /etc/modprobe.conf file
add these :
alias mmc_core tifm_core
alias mmc_card tifm_sd

Ubuntu :: Making FakeRaid Work On 9.10?

Jul 19, 2010

I have installed Ubuntu 9.10 (64 bit) as a dual-boot setup (along with Win 7) on my desktop. I can't emphasize how much faster Ubuntu loads when compared with Windows. There is only one problem though, I cannot figure out how to use my existing FakeRaid array (two 2TB hdds setup as RAID 1 - mirroring) to work with Ubuntu. I am NOT trying to install Ubuntu onto a raid array (I have Win 7 mounted on a separate boot drive , 4 hdds altogether, two for each OS and two for the RAID array). The raid array works fine in Windows and it's an Intel Raid Controller. How can I do the same for Ubuntu without losing any data? Is this possible?
