I am using a VPN proxy service for privacy reasons. I have configured NetworkManager and it's PTPP VPN plug-in successfully.
I would like to configure NetworkManager to drop connections when the VPN fails so that I do not suffer 'privacy leaks' when it happens.
I just updated my Fedora 10 installation with the latest NetworkManager (NetworkManager-0.7.0.99-4.git20090324.fc10.i386) and now my NetworkManager fails to start. The output in the /var/log/messages is

I'm on F14 and can't seem to get NetworkManager to behave. I seem to remember being able to start my machine and see my static address configured right after boot. For some reason, that's no longer the case. When I finish a boot, I'm not getting any address until I log in. I've tried editing the ifcfg-eth0 both by hand and by the system-config-network. I've played with the "Available to all users" checkbox on both the nm config applet as well as the system-config-network gui. I can't seem to get it to behave predictably and give me my static without having to be in a gnome session.

The symptom is that NetworkManager repeatedly ask for password to connect to my AP.My AP is secured with WPA-PKI. The problem even happens with Fedora 11 live cd if I'm not quickly configure wireless connection using NetworkManager right after Fedora completes booting up. It means if I promptly configure wireless connection, i'm still able to access Internet. Same thing happens for the first boot of Fedora from hdd. For the second boot or when I dont quickly configure wireless connection when system finished booting up, NetworkManger repeatedly asks for password for AP.

I'm using a Lenovo B450 laptop with Fedora 14 x86_64. The laptop has a Atheros AR5001 wireless adapter and is identified at lscpi.
Additionally lspci reports that the kernel driver in use and the kernel module for that device is ath5k.On a fresh install of Fedora 14, the NetworkManager applet seem to behave well at enabling and disabling wireless (remember the "Enable Wireless" checkbox). Though wireless was always at disabled state at every boot time, even if it was enabled at the toggle button on the laptop. Now that, after I have fully updated the system (yum -y update), I'm unable to enable wireless. Clicking on the "Enable Wireless" menu item on the NetworkManager applet has no effect, and I've a confirmed report that the update broke this functionality (I reinstalled F14, and then it was working, full system update broke the function).After the update, the kernel version is 2.6.35.10-72.fc14.x86_64 and the NetworkManager version is 0.8.1-10.git20100831.fc14.x86_64.
I'm trying to configure a reverse proxy for Oracle Database connections. What I have:
Host outside --> Reverse proxy --> Oracle Database
The "Revese proxy" has two IP, one for local and another for outside.I've tried with iptables, but unable.Now I'm trying with "redir".When I do a tnsping database, it works and says OK. But executing sqlplus user/pass@database, it tries to connect but time later I receive a timeout. What i do is a redir from port 1521 in "Reverse proxy" to 1521 in "Oracle database" why this doesn't work or any other way to do it?
Does anyone know where the System->Administration -> <Network Configuration> has been placed in F14? Can only find the System -> Preferences -> Network Connections, but here you have no checkbox to activate a device (although even so discribed in the HELP).

They all get these errors 5-10 times a day and when the errors occure the servers apear to freeze and drop all network connections, very frustrating. I've updated to smartmontools 1:5.38-2.el5 and confirmed with Seagate that I have the latest drive firmware, and am now at a loss as to how to fix this. All of the systems report the problem only on sda not sdb.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a fresh install of f14. Using an Intel dp55wb mobo w/ integrated nic. I have access to network. Have access to internet. When downloading large files (f14.iso or ..... vid) after ~35 secs, data stream drops to 0. Other computers on network do not have problem. F14 computer is wired into router. Have tried a Biostar mobo w/ integrated nic w/ same results. Have changed patch cable. Have changed MTU's both higher and lower from default of 1500, no change.

It runs on a fakeraid pair of SSD's of 60 GB each (actually a single Revodrive device, but it shows up as two devices). I had a google of this but can't find anything useful. I use networkmanager to configure my wireless card. Currently this only works when I'm logged in to KDE. If I log out the system loses the network connection. Is there a way to make it persistent using NetworkManager?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI remember that I did configure my desktop PC for wired and wireless connections since openSUSE 11.2, 11.3 and 11.4. Currently I have openSUSE11.4 x86_64 KDE. Today I happen to notice that the icon for NetworkManager in the taskbar has been replaced with a red X. I discovered that Network Manager only shows VPN tab, whereas Wired and Wireless tabs are greyed out. The strange thing is I still have Internet connection with the CAT5 cable being plugged in. I can still configure wired and wireless connections via YAST but I cannot fix Network Manager settings.

I might have messed up with the settings earlier. What I can do though is run knetwork manager every time I start up (or add it to start up programs). But that opens up the KDE wallet which would rather avoid.I am thinking I need to install something related to NetowrkManager.

I cant figure out why using the iwconfig command is not working by itself for WEP. WPA working with NetworkManager is just a bonus though.

If I boot with the NetworkManager service enabled, my NIC presents as expected at /dev/eth0 (I'm using biosdevname=0). However, when I stop the NetworkManager service, /dev/eth0 disappears from the filesystem.If I boot without NetworkManager enabled, /dev/eth0 is never created. Reviewing dmesg, udev is loading an ethernet driver.

after fiddling around with compiz-fusion and KDE, my network suddenly disappeared. I looked in the package manager and apparently I don't have the gnome applet for networkmanager...but everything else I seem to have (the git version not svc or w/e) Anyone know if installing the applet will let me choose my wireless network and connect to it? Right now I think so, but what I have to do is boot into windows, find the package on the web and download it, then boot into fedora and install it

I looked around and found the svc version and a git version for i386, but my OS is x86_64 and I couldn't find any git versions of it for 64-bit fedora's. btw, I have no idea what git and svc mean, but when I tried to install the svc version, it told me I had to install svc versions for all the other networkmanager packages...

I have just installed Fedora 10 on an old laptop and was quite impressed with how smoothly it all went ... until it came to setting up networking!
I have battled for three days now and I'm almost there;
- installed updated firmware to the built in Broadcom 4306 wireless network adapter
- got NetworkManager to work with a static ip address by manually editing the ifcfg-wlan0 file
- managed to get the WPA security to work
The only problem I am left with is that there is no default route; if I set one up using: ip r a default via 10.1.1.1 dev wlan0
Then everything starts working.
If I try to add routes using the NetworkManager gui interface they dont get saved (no suprises there then! ).
I have tried creating a route-wlan0 file in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ but this seems to be ignored by NetworkManager.
Since the NetworkManager GUI is almost useless, does anyone know if there are any other configuration files I can manually modify to get a default route set?

The network worked fine after the upgrade.This morning I updated to the latest RPMs and rebooted, and now the network donot work!ifconfig shows only the lo interface. NetworkManager does not start, /var/log/messages shows signal 11.I tried to boot with the original kernel, but the results are the same.

1. after each reboot i have to start wicd manually from su. any solution to get it loaded automatically?
2. also as i stopped nm, i have no network shortcut in taskbar, anyway wicd icon can be integrated in taskbar?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am new to fedora, but not so new to linux. I've got f13 installed on my netbook, and the speed and overall beter-ness? of it made me want to get it going on my desktop. I've installed, and have updated the kernel, and network manager (Along with a few other things). My problem is this; after about an hour or two I get a drop out, unable to reconnect. Until I use 'ifconfig wlan0 down > ifconfig wlan0 up' then it works great for about 10 minutes, slows down, and eventualy drops out. i updated networkmanager in the hopes it may have been that, but it really made only a slight difference.

I am using a linksys wusb54g > chipset ralink rt2510? (don't quote me on that its from memory). I am also using WPA encription. I am currently messing with those setting to see if that helps.
I had to uninstall a proprietary ATI driver because it wrecked my X server. Apparently I removed the wrong package, because now the X server won't even start, even with the "nomodeset" flag.
QUESTION 1.How can I configure WiFi on the command line with NetworkManager or ifup, whichever is easier?
QUESTION 2.Which packages do I need to download to restore the X server?
