Just noticed that the buttons for each open application, normally arrayed across the bottom menu bar, are totally missing. They're just not their, either for open or hidden apps!All I can think of that I've done since the new install is I did download gconf-editor and possibly opened it once, but I made no intentional changes.
View 2 RepliesAfter resolving the issue with updating Fedora, I have a new issue and it that my clock (as well as the network status icon, etc) and apps tray have literally disappeared (as shown by the provided screen shot). The only way I can can switch applications is with alt+tab. Sorry if this may sound dumb if it is a simple fix, but I have looked around in System>Preferences/Administration and could not find anything.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm testing out 10.04 on one of my partitions, and I love it. I have been using it exclusively for a while now, I have not logged into Windows since! Really don't care about windows anymore!However, yesterday I went to boot into windows... and I noticed the option to choose it is missing from my list! Maybe I'm just not getting to the correct list? The list I get shows like 5 different modes and versions of Ubuntu and something called Windows Recovery (which does nothing), but that's it.

When running the application I get prompt for authentication, that was fine under FC13. I used to type my super user password, andthat was it. On FC14 I get nothing.Now when I skip the authentication the Wireshark Gui comes up, but it has no interfaces showing on my list.What I have!:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to add applications to my "Startup Applications" menu. Most of the time, they "stick," but sometimes simply disappear, either immediately or after a variable length of time (sometimes more or less immediately, sometimes after several restarts, or anywhere in between). I've noticed that, when they stop booting, their entry disappears from ~/.config/autostart, but changing permissions on the affected files (e.g., removing write access) doesn't seem to help.
Any suggestions? Re-adding the same things over and over gets frustrating after a while, and I can't figure out why these entries are disappearing.Currently running Ubuntu 9.10 on an HP Pavilion dv6000 with an Intel Centrino Core Duo processor and 2 GB of RAM.
I was having problems with using sound in 9.04, and decided that I needed to upgrade to 10.04
So, did a bit of cleaning up, before doing a backup to another disk. In the process of cleaning up, I removed, what I thought was "just" sqlite, but it removed firefox, kmail, nautilus, networking, internet, just about all menus, the whole system is shot.
Fortunately, I use simple backup, and was able to 'see' that a full backup was done yesterday, and an incremental just before my 'clean up'. The sbackup only does /home , and system data held in /etc,/usr/local and /var , so not ALL of the system is in the tar files.
Now when I boot into Ubuntu, it just goes to a command prompt. To copy those .tar files to another drive on the same computer, I need to run nautilus or similar, but can't, as no internet. The same with sbackup, basically it won't run anything. I did try the 'recovery option in GRUB, still no go.
I do have Beyond compare on the Ubuntu box, and I _think_ it may be ok to run, and possibly copy those .tar files across. As it won't even do a 'mount' either, I can't copy to CD, or load a USB stick, etc, etc.
I'm 99% certain that the .TAR files will be all that I need. They have all the data, and all the config. type files.
Just wondering if there is any method to get Ubuntu 9.04 up and going again, like a restore point I guess. But, every time I tried using apt-get, it wanted the internet, which is not working on Ubuntu (fortunately I have XP on this same computer, and can connect).
The XP computer can't access the Ubuntu HDD, but Ubuntu can access the XP HDD, and copy to it, but ONLY if I can mount the XP drive first.
So, I guess even if I could do a mount of that XP HDD from Ubuntu, that will be a start.
i installed "display calibrator" from the distros and afterwards i cant find it under Applications (graphics/ sound&audio/system tools...), so i went to System > Preferences > Main Menu and it isnt listed anywhere.

I'm trying to install kweather in 11.2. I have downloaded and installed. I can find it in usr/bin and usr/lib but I can't add an application as in 11 or 11.1. It doesn't show up in the list of apps. It's there but I can't get it on the desktop.

But just in case some apps need strictly windoze i was wondering about using BART PE as a minimal windows application use. Does BARTPE run all win32 apps like CAD, dialup client, burn iso, install on a small harddisk,boot up with linux?

I've been keeping my system up to date with slackware64-current.Google searches have turned up very little about this library. There is a sourceforge page that has no files and seems to be related to a google hosted script jsCore.js... but I don't think that's what's missing here. I've come across some vague references to this jscore library being part of webkit. Can anyone verify this? I updated my webkit library itself and found no apparent results. Perhaps jscore was removed in an update to Qt (both of the example applications mentioned above link to Qt) as it seems to have it's own webkit library, libQtWebKit.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently decided to do a dual boot computer running windows 7 and fedora 12. After running disc management in windows 7 and shrinking my main volume down so there was enough unallocated room to install fedora I rebooted and ran the fedora live cd. I then chose the option to install fedora on unused hard drive space.
After all of this I booted up fedora and everything ran great and I have access to all my windows files when I mount that drive. I restarted my computer and tried to boot into windows 7 and ended up with the error "bootmgr is missing press ctrl alt del to restart". Is there any way to recover from this and use windows 7 again?
In F11, I could configure windows to gain focus when the mouse hovers over them ... it was possible to finetune the response in terms of seconds. I dont find the menu item for this function any more in F12 (System -> Preferences ->?) Which package added that functionality and is there a version for F12? I really miss it
just noticed that the windows are already set to respond that way (by default) only that the title bars don't indicate a change in focus.
I have installed Fedora 15 on a Acer Aspire one computer laptop. Shortly after it returns to the command line I get a series of error messages. Perhaps the installer finishes and then tries to start Kindle. I have typed their essence below:

Kindle does not show up in the configuration utility and when I try to run it from the command line it complains that some classes are not registered. My understanding is that yum has a list of the component packages required by wine, and the person who prepared the list thought it had loaded all that was needed for wine, but it did not include the package that has the classes that I need. On the web there are a number of postings that tell how well Kindle works under Linux, and none of them deals with doing anything more than installing wine. I assume that in those cases the install procedure loaded the classes I need. My hope is that someone with more knowledge than I can give me a pointer on how to proceed.
For some reason, my latest Fedora 11 install + yum update does not seem to have the option to connect to a Windows Share in the drop down list when I select Connect to Share. I'm using gnome.Does anyone have any ideas which packages provide this functionality.
