Running Fedora 13 with KDE Desktop. When I open a document and minimize it, It dose not show on the panel on the bottom. Therefore I can not re-open it, I have to open a new one. Now I have several minimized thinks in the panel and I can't close them.
View 1 RepliesAfter I completed the upgrade to Lucid, my maximize, minimize, and close buttons disappeared. I looked around on the forums and i didn't see any other posts about this problem. I'm sorry if i might have over looked one though. Anyways, the buttons are not on the left or the right, they just don't show up. I tried messing with the theme settings and I also tried some of the things that were recommended on the main sticky about bugs with Lucid, and i still don't have them. Dose anyone know how to fix this or will it fix itself with updates?

I have gone to edit, preferences, mail preferences, html messages and have always load images from the internet chosen. I have also added sender to contacts. Even if I right click message and tell it to dload images it doesn't.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was on this fedora OS, Im not sure whats the version.Was running this application, when i tried to minimize it, it disappear.As the guy who install this application has left, I do not know which folder he installed to. hence i used "whereis" and manage to search out the application.I clicked on the application, it load, but it was a enlarged version. after that it just hanged.--Will a hard reboot solve this problem?We tried getting someone to reboot the system, (he said he did) but I still seeing the same thing(application hanged) on my remote console.i know, that need to find the process to kill it, but at the moment i cant even access the cli/command prompt to enter the kill process command

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've installed yesterday Fedora 14, 64 bit... Now I wanted to setup the nice graphic effect, but I can't find a way how to setup the minimize effect. I've installed additionally Emerald, ccsm and fusion-icon. I'm starting compiz using Fusion-icon. Just in the ccsm menus and icons I really can't find anymore how to setup those nice things like the magic lamp or there was also an effect which makes the window fold on minimizing (or closing).
And where did the burn effect go? It used to be there at some point in the past? And for closing effects and I didn't find nothing at all? Is there another configuration tool, besides ccsm, do I need to edit some config files in order to setup these things, should I install something more or nowadays. Compiz is losing its effects? Why all the topics regarding graphic effects are only on Ubuntu? Let's write about Fedora too !!
I just had an update and after that it required a reboot. When I logged on the system there was no CLOSE, MINIMIZE, MAXIMIZE buttons on windows!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI did an upgrade to F15 from F13. I was a little skeptical about the upgrade (I had always reinstalled in the past), but so far it seems to have worked great. What were people thinking when they released Gnome? No minimize of resize buttons for all windows (I downloaded the F15 updates today, and there doesn't seem to be any updates to fix the situation). Ridiculous. Who did any testing on this? Once a fix was found for that, I find Gnome to be non intuitive and inefficient regarding response time and user key strokes required.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Fedora 15 with Gnome 3 on a 32 bit laptop. I noticed that there seems to be a huge memory leak issue with Gnome shell. When I restart it, it is around 20 MB. But it keeps rising, and after around eight hours, I noticed it was around 250 MB! I found a solution online that said to simply restart the shell if the gnome-shell memory consumption becomes too large. While this is fine as a temporary solution, I am looking for a permanent one. Is there a way to minimize/prevent the memory leak other than waiting for the next version of Gnome 3?

There is a question about this in this thread but the thread title did not have any of the above words in it and since most "new" folks don't think to use the "posts" option, I thought I'd make a new titled post.
This seems to be a big irritant of a lot of people around the net with Gnome 3 so I'm going to confirm what other people have said about how to fix the situation.
In "add software" enter this search term:
gconf
You will see quite a few returns, you should click the following:
A process-transparent configuration system (G Conf1-2.3 yada yada)
Graphical Gconf untilities (it may be pulled with the above however).
Install it/them.
One can then type "Gconf2" in terminal and it will open but then close when the terminal is closed, or one can go to activities/applications/tweak advanced settings( the symbol will be the same as for settings in Gnome 3).
In the "Shell" button one will see "Arrangement of buttons on the title bar". Surprisingly, "All" will already be apparent. One need merely verify that it is on "all".
Close gconf.
Nothing will have happened in terms of new buttons even if one closes and opens, say FireFox.
Then reboot.
After the reboot, all three buttons will be present.
There are not a LOT of configuration items in gconf2 but this one seems to be of paramount importance to a lot of people.
One can also do it from command line, and if someone wants to post that please feel free it won't hurt my feelings.
I installed XFCE on a machine built with the FC 15 LXDE based live CD using yum groupinstall XFCE. I got a usable XFCE session, but after a period of use, some things have gone missing. The windows don't have minimize,resize and close icons on the top bar. The settings selection for "Window Manager Tweaks" doesn't start any program. The programs that are open in the users session are not saved, even though that option is checked. Can this be explained by corruption of a single file somewhere? Or should I re-install XFCE again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to connect a projector to my laptop (already running) and hit the fn+f7 (the designated button for switching screen), nothing happens. I see "no source found" on projector screen and my laptop screen works perfectly. Now if I restart the laptop with the projector connected, I see all the intial booting messages on the projector screen (not on my laptop), then the gnome login screen appears on both the projector screen and laptop (when the login screen appears on laptop it looks like it has lower resolution than my usual laptop resolution). But immediately after I log in, my laptop screen goes blank, and projector screen becomes the only active screen.
If I restart without the projector, again all normal operation on laptop screen is restored.
I feel like I am missing some very silly options. Any help is appreciated.

We recently upgraded our Samba server from Fedora 10 to Fedora 12. After the upgrade, when users connect to a Samba share from their Windows PCs, they can no longer see the symlinks in the share like they used to under Fedora 10.We are using the same smb.conf file as under Fedora 10, so I'm not sure what has changed.

When i run the command du -hs * on /data it tells me I used 538GB. How is that possible? Is it possible to get the right amount?
I was running fedora 9 on an HP pavilon and wanted to get my wirless card to work with b43, so i searched online for ways to to this and found the following: "Using the b43 driver If you need to use the b43 driver follow these steps to install the required firmware.
1. Download this file [URL]
2. Load up a terminal window if you are in the graphic interface.
3. Switch to the root user by entering the command "su -" (without the quotes) and typing in your root password
4. Extract the contents of the file you downloaded by typing the following: tar -xjvf /path/to/broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0.tar.bz2 Replace the "path/to" section with the path to the file you downloaded.
5. We now need to use the b43-fwcutter tool. A standard Fedora installation already has this tool installed however if you don't have it type in the following: yum install b43-fwcutter
6. Now run the following:
b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware kmod/wl_apsta.o The above assumes you are in the directory that you extracted the downloaded file to.
7. Now type in following following:
echo "modprobe b43" >> /etc/rc.modules" chmod 755 /etc/rc.modules"8. I am having problem i installed realplayer 11 using rpm .. running fedora 10 kde 4.2 well the problem is i click on realplayer it shows the realplayer tab on my task bar and after sometime its gone .. nothing comes !

Nearly evrithing was flawless, but when i copied my old home directory the images of some of the launchers i have on the desktop are invisible.I use kde 4 with the activity show folder running pointing to the desktop folder. The icons missing are windows programs installed with wine. I copied the icons from one installation to another. I also tried to manually set the icon copying it to a different location and modifying de .desktop.

I installed fedora about a week back, and when I first started it, it told me that it had a kernel failure, and showed me a notification on the right hand bottom corner and asked me if I wanted to submit the report.

Just now, it didnt boot into fedora saying it failed loading something, and I ran fsck, it showed 2 errors and fixed them , then I was able to get into fedora.
The Rhythmbox package was updated via Yum recently (today for me, out of fedora-updates) and now no longer displays its icon in the notification area. The package for me (Fedora 11 x86-64) is versioned 0.12.3-1. Has anyone else seen this behavior
