I install Fedora 13 from live CD to harddrive. after that i install KDE desktop. It works properly but after 2-3 days when I open my linux box then only Gnome only come there is no KDE selection at login screen.
View 1 RepliesI installed some weeks ago Fedora 14 via burnt iso file downloaded from official Fedora site. It was working perfectly like a charm for me until yesterday when I tried to install zend server for PHP.During my first try of installation of zend server it corrupted out my apache server and I lost apache on http://localhost.I removed all "zend-server" like stuff from "Add Remove Software" screen.
Installed again apache 2 in the form of LAMP (Linux Apache Mysql Php)via terminal. Apache installed correctly and started workeing again ok on localhost.n again I tried to install zend server from install.sh file in downloaded zend server installation. It showed me after a while like "zend server installed successfully".I shut down my pc thinking everything is ok now.
Today when I started my system, it shows me boot screen of Fedora, I select fedora and then it shows me baloon filling up for around 5-7 secs. Then all of a sudden a black screen appears up with a cursor blinking at its top left and then nothing else happens further. I cannot find login screen to my desktop anymore.I remember one thing thating reinstallation of apache from terminal, I set following command like "chkconfig --level 235 httpd" (I guess that's what I have written as per some online tutorial for LAMP). Is that cause of mine problem ot its something else?
i have installed xubuntu desktop on my Ubuntu PC. But now the login screen and the bootsplash screen are showing Xubuntu logo etc . How do I fix this?

But when I tried to install Global Menu, but it didn't work so restarted machine. But after booting Ubuntu Logo shows while loading and after that Blank screen appears with a cursor and nothing happens.
I tried to uninstall theme from recovery mode but didn't help.
I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 and it's working fine. The only problem I have is that grub is not showing and I automatically come across the login screen.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried to open the Open the Laptop I found the I could not find my Login Screen, I can watch my mouse scrolling around and when hit power key show me restart, herbinernate .etc, I tried to log in into console by pressing ALT+CNL+F4, and when typed startx it showed me following error

and start again

when I boot and login to a fresh install of Ubuntu, everything goes fine, the login screen appears, I login. Then the cursor appears on a black screen. This is normal. Then when the desktop should appear, on the very left edge of the screen, about 5 pixels in size, you can see the panel and the rest of the desktop. But I stress, You still see the cursor. In this small area, you can right click as you, even click on the menu and it will come down, you can see it. I can click on Ubuntu SC and the cursor will turn to a loading symbol. But then nothing again. I can press Ctrl + Alt + F2 and terminal will come on fine. So far, this has happened on a live CD of Maverick, A live USB of Maverick, A Natty Narwhal Fresh Install, A Maverick Fresh install, A Karmic Old Install and That same Karmic After going through a Distro upgrade via Ctrl + Alt + F2 to 11.04. I've gotten all the updates for all of them (A slow, bandwidth wasting process), and this doen't happen on other computers, even ones with lower graphics cards then mine. Additionally, on the same computer on a seperate partion, I can load my main Maverick just fine, Indicateing that it can't be a hardware problem. After searching across the internet, I'm at loss to an answer.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've installed Ubuntu desktop edition 10.04 so far, using alcohol tool as I wanted to install "inside Windows".I successfully installed it everything seems to be fine to me. But, the problem is when I select Ubuntu from boot menu it stops at a console with some grub loader message and doesn't shows login screen.
Please, not that I had installed it a couple of time before and it worked perfectly for some reason and Windows problem I had to uninstall it.
I can also post pictures of that screen if you require, I've to capture it through my mobile phone, which is with suck graphics.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to connect a projector to my laptop (already running) and hit the fn+f7 (the designated button for switching screen), nothing happens. I see "no source found" on projector screen and my laptop screen works perfectly. Now if I restart the laptop with the projector connected, I see all the intial booting messages on the projector screen (not on my laptop), then the gnome login screen appears on both the projector screen and laptop (when the login screen appears on laptop it looks like it has lower resolution than my usual laptop resolution). But immediately after I log in, my laptop screen goes blank, and projector screen becomes the only active screen.
If I restart without the projector, again all normal operation on laptop screen is restored.
I feel like I am missing some very silly options. Any help is appreciated.

I have a standard F15 installation with Gnome 3 from the live CD. I got bored and decided to play with a few other WMs and DEs. I installed KDE-base, but KDE does not appear as an option at login. Is there something else I need to install? XFCE, Openbox, and Classic Gnome with Compiz all appear in the menu. KDE does not.

I suspect that it may have to do with my ati radeon 9800 graphics card. give me some boot options or some such thing so that I could install fedora on my computer. Also some other specs

So I installed the Nvidia driver on a fresh install of F13 & rebooted in the image I've attached. So, my question, what should I be posting here to fix it? Xorg.conf? Honestly, the one thing I've never had an issue with in Linux is video drivers. I've always run Nvidia cards & they've always just worked. So I'm at a loss for the first time in a long time. I also tried googling, but I have no idea what to google.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis problem started within the last few minutes. I run a program in my browser that uploads data from my machine (ubuntu) to another machine (Fedora 13), for manipulation and then spits back the data that does not match our standardised information.
When I tried to run it a few minutes ago, it seemed to take a long time to make the connection. I went back and checked the machine, everything was connected and fine. I decided to reboot the machine from within KDE and then try again. Same result. I went to the machine again and tried to login through KDE, the screen goes black for a few seconds and then returns me to the login screen. I switched over to a virtual terminal and was able to login using the same credentials. I checked the .xsessions-errors file and this is what I am seeing:

My last setup (years ago) ran fluxbox so because it was familiar I installed it as a secondary to xfce right off the bat. I download a lot of different stuff because I like to try out all the apps I can find but somewhere I broke something. I can still run fluxbox fine, but nither the Xubuntu nor Xfce sessions will run now. Last thing I remember changing was pulse audio(removed it for an experiment I was trying with jack audio), not sure if it is connected but when I try to login to xfce the screen goes black, flickers a few times then it brings me back to the login screen.
I tried failsafe but everytime I do my monitor gives me a "frequency out of range" error. I tried purging and reinstalling xubuntu desktop and xfce settings but I am thinking its my xorg config. My laptop is a Toshiba satellite M305D-s4830 with ATI Radeon 3100 mobile graphics card and I am running Xubuntu 10.10. Unfortunately I also broke the screen, so right now I am stuck with an external monitor till I get a new one.
I would like to post my problems here with Fedora 11 regarding that I am using Dell inspiron 1525, Dual core-N series. I have got two problems:
First;- After I updated my system, I have experienced a a login problem , which is each time I try to login and insert my password correctly it seems that it will login but it comes back to the same login screen as if I did not do anything, but after too many times it works.

I have installed VirtualBox and setup a Windows Vista host, initially with a .vdi of 10gb. That filled up quickly, so I added another 20gb secondary partition, after first trying to allocate a .vdi to a SCSI controller. Configured the drive in Windows (Computer Management), and all seemed ok. I shutdown VB, and rebooted my Linux host (openSuse 11.3). Now I keep bouncing back to the login screen, and can't login to Linux KDE, but can login to a console.I do have the following info:

I did see a message before, that I don't see anymore, that said it could not start NFS services due to missing entry in fstab. Another I'm seeing now is it couldn't start the avahi-daemon, no space left on device. This is odd, since I have a 200GB drive, with half of it left, only max 30GB set to VB. Here's my df -k output:

So root "/" is mounted on /dev/sda6, which looks like it could be a problem, but why would this suddenly be a problem after working with VirtualBox? Could this be a matter of just freeing up space on /dev/sda6? Like the /tmp folder that's under "/"?
I have a desktop running Hardy and till friday it was running good. Today is monday and I guess it has got monday blues like I get every monday at work.Today I tried to start it as usual but it just refused to go further than login screen. I just can not login. It just hangs it there. I do not know what has gone wrong. I did not change anything since friday and no one else uses it. Theres nothing in logs that could give any idea. It just hangs without any reason and is still on the login screen for ever. It does ask my username and password but then it does not go further.But to my surprise I tried logging in with root and it gave me expected error that system administrator is not allowed to login from gnome.

After I enter my password and click login, I hear the opening chime in fedora, then my keboard lights flash on and off and my screen goes blank for a minute, almost like the machine is rebooting, then goes right back to the login screen. Sometimes I have to do this 5-8 times before I finally get into the desktop, other times it works the first time.

Big mistake The screen went black.I can force a shutdown, login and I get the same black screen. View 14 Replies View RelatedIt's two days now I'm in deep troubles after my last "yum update". The system boots as usual, the graphical login pops up the normal way but no input is handled by either the internal keyboard (the system is a laptop), the mouse pad, the external USB mouse and keyboard.
The hardware itself seems to be working as I can pop up the BIOS menus and even edit the GRUB booting line. But, after GRUB there's no possible input. I've tried to boot the system with the Fedora 11 DVD, rescue menu and then chroot. This in order to run a "yum update" in the hope that the problem was in some broken update. No chance: there's no update.
My questions are:
1. Is there a way to boot Fedora withou any graphical interface from GRUB (or anything else to skip the KDE)?
2. Is there a way to have the (cabled) network activated at boot *before* the graphical login?
3. What the he** is happening to my otherwise pefectly working laptop?
