I*had an update today and, since, Flash full screen is jerky and the sound comes as through a PVC*pipe.nybody has this problem?How do I find the updates that arrived today?*Is it possible to revert to a precedent version?
View 2 RepliesI just did the latest upgrade in 9.10 via the update manager and it required a reboot. When I rebooted Ubuntu failed to load. In recovery mode it fails saying that it can't find my root device and has some suggestions about what might be wrong. I looked at the file it listed in /proc/something and the devices available by uuid in /dev/ and what's listed in /proc/something isn't in dev. I haven't made any changes yet for fear of causing worse damage. The shell it bumps to is ASH and it doesn't look to have much editor support to make changes to the proc file(ECHO > ?). Is there a safer way to get my system back online?

I had the Adobe flash plugin working under 09.10 in Firefox; now after the upgrade to 10.04, it doesn't work.When I go to a web page with flash video, I get the message "Some plugins are not installed" and video will not display. I click on the button to install the plugins and select Adobe Flash. I get the message "Package is already installed." I go back to the web page and the same thing happens again.In Ubuntu Software Center I see that package restricted-extras is installed.
I tried going through Tools / Add-ons in Firefox, but the list of add-ons wouldn't load at all that way.I also tried going to Adobe's web site, but for versions of Ubuntu 09 and later it offers an "APT" file instead of a .deb. Firefox asks what application to use to open an "APT" file and I don't know what to tell it... I'd be fine downloading a .deb or using apt-get or Ubuntu Software Center though.
I just upgraded from Fedora 14 to 15. First thing that I want to say is, "Wow, this looks great." It's such an innovative, slick, modern interface. I'm very impressed. The Gnome developers did a very good job on Gnome 3 and Fedora folks did a great job with the integration into the latest Fedora distribution. I did run into a problem, though. I'm still a little bit green in the Linux world, so please bear with me. When I upgraded with preupgrade, yum came back with repository errors. I think that the problem stems from the fact that I installed firefox4 in Fedora 14 according to the instructions on the fedoraproject.org wiki [URL]. Now I have two copies of Firefox 4 installed (after the upgrade) and I'm unable to remove the extra one (yum remove firefox4 gives bupkis ). What's worse, yum doesn't work for anything else, either . I tried a "yum clean all" but that didn't fix it. I think that I need to remove the firefox4 instance of Firefox, and then remove the repository from my repo list (I think), but I'm not sure how to do that.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter applying the 31st Jan and 1st Feb updates to -current (32 bit), alt-tab to switch between windows is no longer working in kde. It seems to lock the desktop and then after a few seconds kde goes back to the login screen. If I disable all desktop effects then alt-tab works again.
View 10 Replies View RelatedAfter installing the latest updates (the second round of updates since the upgrade from CentOS 5.5 to 5.6), Evolution mail barely works on my KDE desktop.After I do manage to get it running, then exit the program and log out, bonobo-activation-server and a couple of evolution process invariably continue running, and must be killed manually.The program generally does not start at all using the desktop program icons. If I make sure bonobo and all evolution processes are dead, I can generally get it started using the command line, but it complains with this error message:

Where's the recovery console in 10.04? Apparently there's no Grub so holding escape to get to a boot menu to boot into a shell isn't an option for me it seems.
I just want a shell so I can remove lm-sensors or whatever package I installed that's made my system unboobatble.
Getting sound to work in Linux has been nearly impossible since I upgraded from Ubuntu Jaunty to Karmic. I finally had it working for about 6 months in Fedora 12, then I upgraded to 14. </rant> When I install pulse, I can hear the login sound on KDE, and the KDE error sounds, and that's it. I can't even hear sounds from the test button in the Phonon settings.With ALSA alone,I get absolutely nothing. I've already been through this which was minimal help.

I just updated my kernel to 2.6.34.7-56.fc13.x86_64 last night and now I have no system sounds. Audacious plays my mp3's just fine, just as all my multimedia works in my web browser, vlc, etc... The only thing being affected is system sounds. I tried playing a sample with aplay and I got loud, crackling nonsense and this output code...
View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed a whole mess of updates yesterday, and when I booted into Ubuntu today, my desktop looked off. I could only use the upper 80% of my display, while Docky had decided to completely take over the bottom portion. Killing Docky brought my display back to full size. However, any scrolling or window movement was very jerky. I double checked my appearance preferences, only to find out that I had been 'downgraded' from 'normal' to 'none'. I attempted to go back to my original settings. First, I was told that the Appearance Manager was searching for available drivers. After flashing through all of my open windows, I was told 'Desktop effects could not be enabled'. A bit of searching discovered that people have had problems with compiz in the past. I downloaded compiz-check, and ran it, only to be shown the following:

Since it's his repo I thought I'd contact him, but I don't really know how - so I'm brining my issue to the forum to see if anyone has a possible solution.I've been using Tom's Chromium fine for the past couple months. After a "yum update", Flash no longer works in Chromium. It works in Firefox. If I try to play any Flash videos it's just a blank box.

I am having issues after upgrading the Scientific Linux 6 kernel from its current 2.6.x version to the latest version that SL6 has available. The issue is that once I install the upgrade and reboot, the internet becomes extremely laggy when scrolling on web pages, so much so that you get a ripple like effect as your scrolling. Which doesn't occur in the current kernel i am using.
Current Kernel is: 2.6.32-71.18.2.el6
New Kernel RPM update is: 2.6.32-71.29.1.el6
I wish I could figure out the problem but I am having trouble identifying what exactly the current kernel has that the new one doesn't that would cause the internet lag. I have read other topics with similar kernel update problems, but none have expressed an internet problem & only an internet problem from a kernel update.
I have upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04. I have been using wmii as window manager under ubuntu for years. After the upgrade it's entirely broken.
The metakey is not working anymore, I cannot do anything. The key itself works fine in other environments so is's no hardware issue. After several attempts I completely uninstalled wmii, removed all relevant folders in home and /etc/X11 and reinstalled wmii from the ubuntu repositories.
This fresh install does not work. It starts a strange looking wmii without any key responding to my actions. I copied my old wmiirc to ~/.wmii. When i log in I see my individualized wmii but the metakey is not working and i cannot do anything, like opening a shell.
Edit: A change to "MODKEY=ALT" in wmiirc does not change anything.
I just upgraded to 11.04 with a fresh install on a Dell Inspiron E1405. Got everything else working, but can't get my BBTether to work again.
Message says it usually means the BB is not responding. But it is also happening with Virgin Mobil Broadband stick. Both are USB connections. USB flash drive seems to work.

After yesterday's apt-get dist-upgrade, I lost my higher screen resolutions. Only had 800x600 and 640x480. After trying to re-install the Nvidia drivers several different ways without success, I ended up purging xorg and xserver and then starting from scratch, re-installing the drivers. In doing so, I either found the problem, or created another, ha.I think part of the problem was that I mixed Nvidia proprietary and debian installations and the update broke the drivers.I am now unable to install xorg or xserver because I can not remove/purge libgl1-nvidia-alternatives.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded yesterday ubuntu 9.10 to 2.6.31-19 kernel. After reboot, I get stack to GRUB black screen. No possibilities.
My set-up is triple boot 9.04, 9.10 and winxp. The MBR is handled by win boot.ini with no problems. Each ubuntu partition has a grub installed in it.
9.04 is on sda5 with grub installed on it ext3
9.10 is on sda9 with grub2 installed on it ext4
I am able to boot into sda9, via grub of sda5 obviously passing the correct kernel parameters and UUID.
I upgraded to 9.1 and now my web browsers are not working properly--FireFox would not connect to certain sites, others worked fine. I installed Chrome and it worked for a short period--now none of my browsers work at all and package install manager does not work. Overall performance is much slower than before upgrade--boot time is about 4 times slower. I'd like to fix this build because I had it tweaked just the way I liked it before the upgrade--it was working great and now I'm sorry I upgraded there any hope or should I just start with a fresh install of 9.1 or even the previous version

I'm running Ultimate Edition 2.4 on an Acer Aspire 3500 lappy, yesterday I allowed my system to upgrade the kernel (from 9.10 kernel 2.6.31-17 to 2.6.31-18 generic) as per usual but when it rebooted I had no WiFi. The network manager didn't even have a wireless section, only wired, and I couldn't setup a wireless network either. If I reboot into the earlier 2.6.31-17 kernel everything is OK.
Another problem is that even tho I have no screensaver enabled and no power saving options enabled, (ie screen never disabled) after a short time of no use the screen goes blank. If within a few minutes I touch the pad or hit a key the screen returns but if it's been an hour or so nothing I do will wake it up,even tho there is still disk activity etc, and the only way to recover is with a hard reset, hold power key to reboot.
I'm using Chromium and a 64-bit version of libflashplayer.so I was wondering if there's a new version out, but it's close to impossible to find the download for it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday, I ran a security update that upgraded my Squeeze kernel from 2.6.32-48squeeze8 to 2.6.32-48squeeze9.
Ever since then, my suspend to ram (STR) function is broken.
The machine will suspend normally, but will not resume. When I try to awaken the machine, I can hear the fan in the tower start up (the subject machine is a desktop computer, please see below for specifics), but the machine seems to be otherwise dead (e.g. the monitor stays blank, pressing the "caps lock" key on my keyboard does not activate said keyboard's "caps lock" led, Ctrl-Alt-F[x] has no effect, etc). My only recourse at that point is a hardware reset (ouch!).
I tried running Code: Select allpm-suspend from a terminal, with no joy. Same result running Code: Select allecho -n "mem" > /sys/power/state from a terminal.
I checked the /var/log/pm-suspend.log file and noticed that each Code: Select all...performing suspend line used to (before said kernel upgrade) be directly followed by a Code: Select all...Awake. line, but, now, all said Code: Select all...performing suspend lines are followed by an Code: Select allInitial commandline parameters... line.
Before this, STR has worked well ever since I first loaded Squeeze on this machine back in 2012.

Since my distribution upgrade to 10.04 my VirtualBox guest of XP SP3 will not boot, it bluescreens and reboots. I can boot the guest in last known good config and in safe mode but I have no CDROM. I attempted a tools install over the lan but that resulted in the same blue screen. Tried installing the virtualbox-3.2 beta package and guest tools and had the same results..
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a working workstation with Karmic. Then I decided to upgrade to Lucid. Bad move, it turns out.First the upgrade crashed. Just stopped doing something for hours on end, and I eventually had to reboot. After that, I had to apply lots of apt-get and dpkg love to get the machine to book. Now, I *think* I have a Lucid system, at last. Only that it doesn't work where the Karmic system used to...Our setup uses kerberos and autofs. To begin with, the upgrade lost my /etc/krb5.keytab (making it impossible to log in), but that can be easily replaced.Now, I can log in, but my home directory doesn't get mounted. In /var/log/auth.log, I get this:
