Recently i am having an issues with my fedora11. Whenever i got the login screen when i start up my OS, i entered the password and press enter, it will bring me back to the same screen as i never entered any password.It is always repeating the same tasks (inserting my password and enter) for about 6 times then only success to login to my computer

After restarting the proftpd server and applying the configuration, I try downloading a file in IE browser. Sometimes, it prompts a saveas dialog, and everything was okay.
However, it occasionally prompts a login form instead of a SaveAs dialog. This makes our customers confused greatly.
So, how could I prevent browser from prompting login form when anonymous users try to download files from our ftp server?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Ubuntu in my PC, without uninstalling windows coz it`s not really mine, its my father`s. When he saw the boot (like a month later, he REALLY uses the PC...) he went crazy and instantly ordered me to "uninstall that thing". Of course i`m not stupid to do that after a month of seeing how Ubuntu is... I want to know if/how can I make the pc start on windows auto, without prompting by showing the choose system screen, and when i open boot menu (i don`t remember, but i think its F-eight) i have both choices, so I can keep Linux without him knowing.

I suspect that it may have to do with my ati radeon 9800 graphics card. give me some boot options or some such thing so that I could install fedora on my computer. Also some other specs

This problem started within the last few minutes. I run a program in my browser that uploads data from my machine (ubuntu) to another machine (Fedora 13), for manipulation and then spits back the data that does not match our standardised information.
When I tried to run it a few minutes ago, it seemed to take a long time to make the connection. I went back and checked the machine, everything was connected and fine. I decided to reboot the machine from within KDE and then try again. Same result. I went to the machine again and tried to login through KDE, the screen goes black for a few seconds and then returns me to the login screen. I switched over to a virtual terminal and was able to login using the same credentials. I checked the .xsessions-errors file and this is what I am seeing:

My last setup (years ago) ran fluxbox so because it was familiar I installed it as a secondary to xfce right off the bat. I download a lot of different stuff because I like to try out all the apps I can find but somewhere I broke something. I can still run fluxbox fine, but nither the Xubuntu nor Xfce sessions will run now. Last thing I remember changing was pulse audio(removed it for an experiment I was trying with jack audio), not sure if it is connected but when I try to login to xfce the screen goes black, flickers a few times then it brings me back to the login screen.
I tried failsafe but everytime I do my monitor gives me a "frequency out of range" error. I tried purging and reinstalling xubuntu desktop and xfce settings but I am thinking its my xorg config. My laptop is a Toshiba satellite M305D-s4830 with ATI Radeon 3100 mobile graphics card and I am running Xubuntu 10.10. Unfortunately I also broke the screen, so right now I am stuck with an external monitor till I get a new one.
I have been connecting to ssh but now it takes longer time to prompt for username and also password.Can any one tell what is the reason why it takes time
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an encrypted disk, using LUKS / dm-crypt, on Fedora 14.Every time I boot, I am immediately prompted for the passphrase. This happens VERY early in the boot process, and is a graphical screen (ie not console text). If I hit escape, I am prompted in a text-mode for the same passphrase. If I hit escape or return a few times, boot continues normally.
I only mount the disk occasionally, and don't want to be prompted at boot for the passphrase to luksOpen the disk at boot. I manually cryptsetup luksOpen and then mount it when I want access. I just don't want to be asked at boot, and don't want to unlock it until I do so manually.Does anyone how how I can tell Fedora to not attempt to decrypt / mount this filesystem at boot?It's not in /etc/fstab. I should mention, no LVM, just mdadm raid5 on the partition + luks /dm-crypt.
I would like to post my problems here with Fedora 11 regarding that I am using Dell inspiron 1525, Dual core-N series. I have got two problems:
First;- After I updated my system, I have experienced a a login problem , which is each time I try to login and insert my password correctly it seems that it will login but it comes back to the same login screen as if I did not do anything, but after too many times it works.

I have installed VirtualBox and setup a Windows Vista host, initially with a .vdi of 10gb. That filled up quickly, so I added another 20gb secondary partition, after first trying to allocate a .vdi to a SCSI controller. Configured the drive in Windows (Computer Management), and all seemed ok. I shutdown VB, and rebooted my Linux host (openSuse 11.3). Now I keep bouncing back to the login screen, and can't login to Linux KDE, but can login to a console.I do have the following info:

I did see a message before, that I don't see anymore, that said it could not start NFS services due to missing entry in fstab. Another I'm seeing now is it couldn't start the avahi-daemon, no space left on device. This is odd, since I have a 200GB drive, with half of it left, only max 30GB set to VB. Here's my df -k output:

/dev/sda7 Use% is 46%
So root "/" is mounted on /dev/sda6, which looks like it could be a problem, but why would this suddenly be a problem after working with VirtualBox? Could this be a matter of just freeing up space on /dev/sda6? Like the /tmp folder that's under "/"?
I have a desktop running Hardy and till friday it was running good. Today is monday and I guess it has got monday blues like I get every monday at work.Today I tried to start it as usual but it just refused to go further than login screen. I just can not login. It just hangs it there. I do not know what has gone wrong. I did not change anything since friday and no one else uses it. Theres nothing in logs that could give any idea. It just hangs without any reason and is still on the login screen for ever. It does ask my username and password but then it does not go further.But to my surprise I tried logging in with root and it gave me expected error that system administrator is not allowed to login from gnome.

After I enter my password and click login, I hear the opening chime in fedora, then my keboard lights flash on and off and my screen goes blank for a minute, almost like the machine is rebooting, then goes right back to the login screen. Sometimes I have to do this 5-8 times before I finally get into the desktop, other times it works the first time.

Big mistake The screen went black.I can force a shutdown, login and I get the same black screen. I tried hooking up an external monitor and the monitor showed no input so I'm guessing my laptop doesn't have that capability with Fedora.This is my main computer.
View 14 Replies View RelatedIt's two days now I'm in deep troubles after my last "yum update". The system boots as usual, the graphical login pops up the normal way but no input is handled by either the internal keyboard (the system is a laptop), the mouse pad, the external USB mouse and keyboard.
The hardware itself seems to be working as I can pop up the BIOS menus and even edit the GRUB booting line. But, after GRUB there's no possible input. I've tried to boot the system with the Fedora 11 DVD, rescue menu and then chroot. This in order to run a "yum update" in the hope that the problem was in some broken update. No chance: there's no update.
My questions are:
1. Is there a way to boot Fedora withou any graphical interface from GRUB (or anything else to skip the KDE)?
2. Is there a way to have the (cabled) network activated at boot *before* the graphical login?
3. What the he** is happening to my otherwise pefectly working laptop?

I have a theme file that I downloaded from Gnome-look, but I can't use it in Fedora 10 because gdm wasn't included in 10 or something?How can I sort this, and does anyone know if gdm is making a return in Fedora 11?

Can we log into the gui login screen with root under Fedora 12 because I keep getting an Authentication Failure even when I change the password to a simple password named password? I can login under root in the terminal and when ever it requests the root password in a regular user account.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI' installed Fedora 12 from an installation DVD, repartitioned my hard drive etc.... After the installation has finished, there were 505 updates to install.
Here my problems started. Everytime I selected "all updates" I've got an error.
So i decided to install first all the updates with "rpm" - "yum" and "packages"
After this I could select all the other updates and install them.
During the installation my pc freezed. Rebooted and after the login there were always sessions "starting file manager" that was trying to start, one after the other... I proceeded my updates, and those processes stopped.
Ok, finally, all updates were installed and as good as I'm I rebooted my pc.......
My pc boots normaly, but the moment my logon-window should apear, I've a black screen... nothing else....
I can reboot with kernel 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686.PAE but how can I fix the error with my kernel 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.i686.PAE???
someone who knows the solution???
I found one who told me to install following packages:
- kmod-nvidia-PAE.i686
- xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686
After this I've got my previous problem (before my complete reinstallation). Just booting till GRUB and nothing more.
I'm currently using Fedora 12 GNOME (64bit Version) on my Lenovo T500 Laptop. The system, until today had no issues in booting up. Now it seems that it can't load the log-in screen.The system boots up, past the grub screen and as the Fedora Logo is loading, flashes a few time ans hangs right after the atd service is loaded.The screen flickers 3 or 4 times and the the CLI stops loading. I've left it on for an hour, hoping that it loads but it still hangs up. I've tried loading in interactive mode and disabling atd but Fedora still flashes a few times and hangs after loading everything else

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I change the boot up theme in plymouth from the default, Fedora will not give me a login screen, or leave the plymouth splash screen, I like the spinfinity theme, however when I set that I cannot get to the login screen unless I hit esc when it is booting and never let the splash screen come up. This happens with both gdm and kdm. Anyone else having this problem?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've tried to change the log-in screen on Fedora 15 (gnome3) to have a custom background, however none of the guides I've found have worked - I'm now left with a blue background with no image. They all follow the same instructions as this guide. (I did change the address and PID to my own ones, although the PID was always increasing everytime I typed it) If I type this into the terminal logged in as my user I just get my desktop background changing, although I'm assuming this is correct.
