Fedora Hardware :: How To Know Joystick Device
Feb 4, 2010I have the Joystick driver installed and it works in the FlightGear app. I need to calibrate it if possible. I found jsattach and jscal. I know it works like a Logitech Warrier. I don't know the device nomenclature. I connects to a USB port so I suspect it is a /dev/usbmon X with X = o thru 7. I don't know how to identify it.

Jun 9, 2010boots fine if an external monitor is plugged in, otherwise the laptop screen just flashes white till it dies and reboots. lsmod says nouveau is loaded, however it lets me rmmod it as though its not in use. rmmod on the nvidia mod says it is in use. nvidia settings can change the resolution of the external monitor
used yum to install and built from scratch, both have the same result. reason i want to get rid of nouveau is because it detects my laptop resolution as larger than it is and even if i lower the resolution it still stretches it further than the boundries of the screen. without the nvidia driver my laptop display is recognised correctly aside from size issues.

Fedora Installation :: Make A Virtual Machine Using Exiting Installed Windows 7 On Laptop HD?
Dec 4, 2010I have a Lenovo T500 laptop with 4 GB RAM. I have installed Windows 7 64bits OEM on my laptop HD. I also installed Fedora 14 on my USB External Hard Drive which it has it own boot sector. I don't want to have a dual boot. So if I plug in my external HD to my laptop and turns the machine on, it automatically my Fedora comes up, other wise my windows 7. (I set up start-up boot drive , first to USB External HD and then internal HD)
I installed KVM (Virtual Machine Manger) on my Fedora 14 and I am trying to install windows 7 64bits OEM on my Fedora 14 as Virtual Machine. After setting everything and start installing windows form CD, I got BLUE SCREEN right after "WINDOWS FILES LOADING..." finished. it shows me a blue screen and then it will stop
Questions:
1- How can I fix that problem?
2- Is ther way to make a Virtual Machine on my Fedora using my exiting installed windows 7 on my laptop HD?
Fedora :: New Kernel Installed - No Boot Into GUI
Feb 12, 2011Yesterday the updater installed a new kernel, Fedora (2.6.35.11-83.fc14.i686). This kernel will not boot into a GUI. This is almost certainly an nvidia problem. This kernel, Fedora (2.6.35.10-74.fc14.i686) works fine using the rpm-fusion supplied nvidia drivers. How do I get the new kernel to boot?

Jun 10, 2009I've just downloaded F11 i386 installation DVD. I installed it on my laptop and just now noticed that PAE kernel got installed. Isn't PAE for systems with RAM >3.2 GB? It's a pretty old laptop (P3, 256MB ram). So, is PAE kernel ok for me or should I reinstall from scratch and use some specific switches in the installer to get non-PAE kernel? I've also read that Yum doesn't recognize PAE packages dependencies and will install non-PAE kernel modules if I try to install let's say Nvidia driver or so.

Jun 20, 2009I am installing to an empty hard drive (that for some reason is shown as /dev/sde - I don't know if it is related, but seems weird - why is it not sda, and moreover, not hda - it is an ide drive), and install goes through fine, but in the end it says "no kernel packages were installed, your grub configuration will not be changed", and the only option is to reboot. After rebooting, I get thrown into grub command prompt, and have no idea what to do there.

Aug 26, 2011I'm taking a class this semester on Linux and a Fedora 13 DVD came with the book. Just now I've installed Fedora at home and started the updates. I saw a PAE entry in the updates so I went to the Terminal and typed uname -r and I see that the Fedora 13 DVD installed a PAE kernel on my machine that has only 1 GB of RAM.
Why did it do that?
Can I swap out the PAE kernel for a non-PAE kernel? (edit- I'm a Linux noob so I don't know)
Does it really matter?
After the updates I was going to try to install the proprietary Nvidia driver.

Fedora Installation :: F12 Kernel Seems Unable To Use Installed Hd / Resolve It?
Jan 21, 2010I am trying to install Fedora12 on a usb hard-drive, the first problem I encountered was that the hard-drive would not boot stating "kernel panic: unable to create root device", this is just using the standard fedora 12 install and mostly clicking next (although I add my vista to the grub and tell grub to install to /dev/sdc which is the location of my usb hdd).
I have also tried livecdtousb (wont boot in stick and wont recognize removable hd as removable)
I have tried setting up disc encryption and installing with no LVM.
The drive has this same problem with ubuntu 9.10 however ubuntu 8.10 installs perfectly and I am guessing earlier versions of fedora will too. The problem is that I would like the kernel features of Fedora 12 (mainly modesetting) without this issue.
I have played about with grub and quite like disabling LVM and using the uuid of the drive to select the root partition, my boot partition has 500mb, I have a 2gb swap space 50gb ext4 root partition & 27gb fat32 partition code...

Dec 13, 2010I just recently did a clean install of 10.10. My controller works fine for games no issues there. I haven't done any sort of configuring in order to make my Logitech cordless rubmble pad 2 controller work as a mouse yet it is. It just started this morning when I booted up. I have found many threads on how to make your controller/joystick work as a mouse. But I have yet to find one on how to get it to quit doing so. Or at least how to toggle it on and off which would be better in my case as Ive found in the past 30 min that I like scrolling with the analog stick much better than pgup/dn or the mouse wheel. The main issue is that I have a 4/yo here that plays games all the time and he keeps opening random things when he plays. I also am looking into how to get virtual box to let windows xp detect my controller but I will post that later after I have done more research if I can't figure it out.

May 21, 2010I am using ubuntu 10.04 and have a problem it seems no matter what joystick I plug into ubuntu it wants to treat it like a mouse. I was also able to run jstest. I was able to see positive & negative numbers moving the joystick in four directions. However, when I try 2 different MAME games or Open Arena there is no right direction. Pushing the joystick right only stops it from going left.. Up and down movement seems to be OK.

Aug 29, 2009This morning I installed Slackware 13 i386 and started configuring it. I've got a problem as my laptop has turned off unexpectedly twice since I started using Slack 13. I don't know if it's related to Slackware 13 but it has never happened before on this laptop with Slackware 12.2 or any other system. The first guess would be overheating. I checked the laptop's BIOS but could not find anything related to cooling down.
The laptop seems quite hot but it's nothing unusual for it. I also noticed that acpi is not installed by default. Would it make much difference? The laptop is pretty new (6 months) and the cooling module seems to be clean. The only thing that differs from my previous installations is that for the first time I installed ATI's fglrx and enabled desktop effects. Could it be a buggy video driver?
