Aug 17, 2010I have a gravis gamepad pro, and while Ubuntu recognizes the input device it's treated as another mouse control instead of an actual joystick.
Anyways to fix this? I looked around under system and didn't see anything that would let me maybe fix this.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 amd64, and I'm at a loss on where to go from here.

Dec 13, 2010I just recently did a clean install of 10.10. My controller works fine for games no issues there. I haven't done any sort of configuring in order to make my Logitech cordless rubmble pad 2 controller work as a mouse yet it is. It just started this morning when I booted up. I have found many threads on how to make your controller/joystick work as a mouse. But I have yet to find one on how to get it to quit doing so. Or at least how to toggle it on and off which would be better in my case as Ive found in the past 30 min that I like scrolling with the analog stick much better than pgup/dn or the mouse wheel. The main issue is that I have a 4/yo here that plays games all the time and he keeps opening random things when he plays. I also am looking into how to get virtual box to let windows xp detect my controller but I will post that later after I have done more research if I can't figure it out.

May 21, 2010I am using ubuntu 10.04 and have a problem it seems no matter what joystick I plug into ubuntu it wants to treat it like a mouse. I have no idea as to why this is but it is quite annoying. I searched the menu and have yet to find the ability to disable using the joystick as a mouse function.

Jun 28, 2010I have an old Logitech Wingman analog joystick connected to a game port on a Creative sound card. At this point I've got the system to see the joystck and was able to run jscal. I was also able to run jstest. I was able to see positive & negative numbers moving the joystick in four directions. However, when I try 2 different MAME games or Open Arena there is no right direction. Pushing the joystick right only stops it from going left.. Up and down movement seems to be OK.

While this page suggests there is kernel support, usbmon doesn't show any packages coming down the line at all (But lsusb does recognize the device)
So how do I get debian to recognize the sixaxis?

Feb 4, 2010I have the Joystick driver installed and it works in the FlightGear app. I need to calibrate it if possible. I found jsattach and jscal. I know it works like a Logitech Warrier. I don't know the device nomenclature. I connects to a USB port so I suspect it is a /dev/usbmon X with X = o thru 7. I don't know how to identify it.

Oct 13, 2010Currently I have 5 HID's I would like to use on the system at any given time. However, I have the problem of them using different device paths depending on what order I plug them in... Which wreaks havoc on qjoypad and also my music software which looks for a specific device number, which may or may not be the same as it was last time.
For example, I have 2 rock band drum controllers which I use to send MIDI signals. I need them always assigned to the same device path, so that I don't have to change the settings in my music software every time I run it, to make sure it's looking at the right controller
Or if I am going to play games with a gamepad, but I also have the drums hooked up, the gamepad may be assigned to /dev/input/js2, so I create my qjoypad profile.... Let's say the next day I reboot with the drums not plugged in, the gamepad is now /dev/input/js0, and the qjoypad profile won't work because it is looking for that gamepad at /dev/input/js2... So I would either have to create a new profile, or hook the drums back up in the same order ... Or something
It's just a mess...
Is there any way to tell Ubuntu to say "/dev/input/js0 is always Playstation gamepad", "/dev/input/js1 is always drum pad 1", etc.?
Or some way to do away with /dev/input scheme altogether and somehow link directly to the name of the device?
Debian Hardware :: USB Joystick Only Works When Reconnected It
Feb 8, 2010USB joystick with Linux only works when I disconnected and reconnected its. I have a problem that it can easy, but I didn't find a solution yet. When I turn on my computer using a Debian or Ubuntu and tried to use the joystick the commands of joystick doesn't pass to SO. Once I disconnect and reconnect the joystick on USB port it pass to work.

May 1, 2011I'm using a "HuiJia USB Gamepad" to connect a standard N64 controller to my computer over USB. I'm doing this so that I can play games using mupen64plus, which uses the SDL to get input. My problem has to do with the way the adapter deals with C button events. Apparently, the u/d and l/r C buttons are treated by the adapter as joystick axes, so joystick events are generated by using them. But, for some reason, these events aren't recognized by SDL.
It gets stranger - if I cat the output of /dev/input/event5, the event gets printed when a C button is pressed. Furthermore, when I configure SDL to use the /dev/input/event* devices rather than /dev/input/js0, the C buttons are recognized! (Though, this leads to a situation where the joystick can't be calibrated... go figure). So, I can either have a correctly calibrated joystick with no C buttons or a miscalibrated joystick with working C buttons. Does anyone have any idea what I can do about this situation? The best outcome would be to force the C button joystick events to appear when using /dev/input/js0. Device as it appears in the output of lsusb:

Jun 29, 2010I'm new to Linux, so I decided to try using Wubi to get started. THe problem is, when it finished installing 10.04, I got this message: OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: u'C:\ubuntu\install\ubuntu-10.04-desktop-amd64.iso' Is there any way around this? It might just be that overly restrictive thing called Vista (which I have the bad luck to be using). I was considering getting a USB drive for Ubuntu anyway..

If I use the ubuntu installer for windows, does it have the capability to partition my drive, will it enable to share files with windows etc or is it just a way not to have to burn a CD. Just curious, the exact details of the installation files were not made clear on the website. Note: Windows Version: XP, 32bit, SP3. I have not partitioned anything yet.

Nov 19, 2010I have windows 7 installed on Disk2 (according to windows Disk Manager), and I installed ubuntu 10.10 on Disk0, choosing the dual boot option at installation.
However, grub does not load (presumably because its on disk0 and my machine appears to boot from disk3), so the machine goes straight into windows 7.
How do I get ubuntu to load?

Oct 7, 2010I'm currently running off of my live-cd, and after spending 4 hours of my life trying to fix this myself, i figured someone out here has to know how to help me. Basically, i wanted to try linux, then liked it enough to decide to put on one of my usb-drives (320g adata nobility NH92), and i couldn't get it to boot anything but windows w/o the live-cd, which would then boot the live-cd, lol, in other words, i couldn't get it to boot at all from the external, even though i had changed the setting in my bios to boot from usb first, and tried manually selecting boot from usb and all that fun stuff.
Sooo... eventually i decided it might be a problem with the bootloader, and while i'm not exactly sure at this point what i have done to my computer, all i can successfully boot is the live cd. When I try to boot w/o the live cd, whether i try to boot from my internal (windows) drive, or external, all i get is a device not found error.I think i could fix it if i had windows recovery cd's (i'm running xp, btw), or installation cds, but... unfortunately, they died in a terrible accident. So i have no cd's at all for windows. :/

Ubuntu Networking :: Ubuntu 2 Ubuntu Via Ethernet While Still Using WiFi?
Jan 26, 2010I'm wondering if this is even possible. I've searched high and low and have yet to find and answer to this particular setup.
The setup:
Router is in another building.
Desktop connected by WiFi
Laptop connected by WiFi
Both the Desktop and the Laptop are in the same building together. About 5' apart.
SSH server is setup on Desktop
FreeNX client is setup on Laptop
So they can connect just fine via WiFi for remote desktop control of the Desktop from the Laptop (so SSH and FreeNX are working).Is it possible to connect the 2 pc's directly to each other by Ethernet cable AND transfer files between them by Ethernet while still being connected to the Internet by WiFi on them both?Or would the WiFi have to be disabled while using the Ethernet connection?Neither has a Gigabit Ethernet NIC so I know it would at least require a crossover cable or another router to connect the 2 by Ethernet cable.The idea behind all this is to be able to transfer files between computers quickly by Ethernet while the computers are still busy doing other things on the Internet by WiFi.

Apr 19, 2011The scenario is as follows - I will be moving across the country and my desktop will stay here powered and online, while I move with a laptop. I need a way to connect to the desktop for file streaming(music and movies) as well as using the virtual machines. I have thought about SSH and VNC.I need something failsafe. That's priority one. I won't be around to fix it if it breaks. I can set the computer to come on in the BIOS at a certain time if the power went out. But if I can get in remotely the whole setup is useless.SSH only provides terminal use, correct? So if I chose that route I would be able to access the computer via command line and play music and movies with mplayer and such, correct? But I would not be able to run the virtual machines? Because there will be no GUI, right?
I have been playing with Vinagre and Vino through the host and guest of a virtual machine and I cannot get it to connect. Is there a better application? x11vnc? I have forwarded port 5900 on the router and have upnp enabled. Got a better remote desktop suggestion?I would like to run this setup headless.(no monitor) I also would like to run it without a gpu if that is possible to make it more energy efficient.Both computers are 64 bits and will be running Ubuntu 10.10 and soon 11.04.Are these crappy ideas to begin with? Should I go another route to get my files and access the virtual machines?

Nov 24, 2010After a reinstall of 10.10, I am able to turn on file sharing and so I set up a shared folder.
Windows Vista can see this folder but in my network place, there is only one icon, and it's a "Windows Network" icon. Upon clicking on that, I can see the local network, "Rompus Room".
When I click on Rompus Room, nothing happens for a while, then I get a message saying, "Opening "ROMPUS ROOM". Then I get the final message, "Unable to mount location", followed by, "Failed to retieve share list from server"

So I went ahead and installed 9.10 (dual boot with Vista), repeated above steps but found no "Broadcom STA wireless driver" option, in fact no proprietary drivers. So I still cannot connect to the Internet, and I don't know where to go from here. (Note: I installed 9.10 side by side with Vista: good? bad?)
