1. Download and extract the tar.gz file anywhere on your computer.
2. Run it by double clicking the 'Iron' file or opening it from Terminal by typing './iron'
3. If you get an error that says error while loading shared libraries: libbz2.so.1.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory , you need to create a soft link to the libbz2 file located in /lib.
That can be done in the following manner:cd /lib ln -s libbz2.so.1.0.6 libbz2.so.1.0
You may have to replace 1.0.6 with the version number of the file that's on your computer.
I have a question re: Iron web browser. I downloaded the the latest iron-linux-32.gz
I unzipped the package to /opt/iron-linux-32 and I can run the browser with no problem from the command line or from the gui. This is good.
However, how can I add Iron to the list of applicable browsers so that I can tell the OS to use Iron and not Firefox as default browser? Only Firefox is in the list of preferred applications.
I would rather use the Iron browser rather than Google chromium or Chrome. I don't know how to open a tar.gz file for Debian....Is there a way to get this browser working in LMDE?
i have fedora 11 installed in my laptop and apache server by default. after starting httpd and mysqld services i was able to access localhost through browser.(e.g. [URL]). before installing phpMyAdmin everything goes right. after installing phpMyAdmin it created problem in localhost. now typing [URL] it opens joomla site but without images and without intending of content. when i type [URL] in browser it ask for user name and password. i already provide user name(root) and password(my_root_password) in /etc/phpMyAdmin/config.inc.php. but it doesnt open.
I have ubuntu version 4.10 with Mozilla Firefox as a browser. I have downloaded Adobe Flash Player plugin but I do not know how to get the plugin installed. I can navigate through the terminal a little but still learning. I do not know how to save the (.tar.gz) download to the desktop so it can be unpackaged and then copied to the usr/lib/mozilla/plugins folder. I am hoping the same procedure to install this plugin will be the same for the rest of the browser plugins.

I want to install software ( informenter in chrome). Is this possible to install it I already download informenter.xpi from web...But still facing problem to install it.
I am new to linux and don't know much about it. I am currently taking a on-line class on it and seem to get stuck from time to time. I have been trying to install Konqueror on my systems. I have installed the KDEBASE3-3.5.10. However nothing shows up on my menus in GNOME. According to what I have read you can use this program on either of the GUI's. Not sure what details are needed, but below are some.

I need to install sun-java6-plugin on Debian 6. I already have a Web browser installed in /usr/local/, but it seems sun-java6-plugin requires me to install 1 browser from their list in order to install it. The thing is, I don't want to install any of those browsers, and disk space is kind of limited. How can I install jun-java6-plugin without installing a browser which it depends on?

I am planning to install any Open-Source ( LINUX ) web browser having all dependencies/plugin-ins on one single location [DIR] and share it over NFS to all other users; So all users can run the executable to start browsing local files (Flash Tutorials) without the need of installing a web browser on every single workstation. That's the error I get. When trying to run a java app with the firefox plugin, the browser simply crashes if it's the 64bit java or tells me it's not installed if it's the 32bit version.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. I think it has something to do with leftover gunk from a previous version I misinstalled(Is that even a word?) Anyway, the only thing that google could come up with was a solution for windows which laid blame on Bill Gates for having a bunch of pf (java prefetch) files stuffed into c:windows for no apparent reason. The solution was to delete them, but I can't seem to find the java prefetch folder in linux. The method I used is downloading the rpm from java.com the rpm2tgz then installpkg then cp libnpjp2.so to firefox plugins folder.
I'm using Fedora 9, I've just installed Bluefish, all hunky dory till I press "View on Browser" Button nothing happens. I've tried few cods like these; /usr/bin/firefox -new-window "%s" & %s. But No success.
i just updated from karmic 9.10 to lucid 10.04 using the online upgrade option. so far everything is working great. the only issues i am having seem to involve firefox. when i visit videos i get the message "your browser is no longer supported. please upgrade to a modern browser." i am running 3.6 "canonical" so it is "modern". i am able to watch videos after i close the message. it's just an annoyance to get this message every time i view a video.
next, is on some websites (like this one) it will not supply my login info. but on a few sites (like ebay) it does supply my login info. not sure why some sites work while others don't. the info is there when i look under my saved passwords....
I've been having a lot of problems lately, more than a year after using fedora without a single issue... I've upgraded to F14 but the new kernels can't boot, they show a message I can't read copmletely, so I took a photo ( hope you don't mind):I can't even use flash on the browser.I tried downloading F14 live CD and updating from it, but it just says wating for udev..I don't have any idea on how to fix this problem, so I come to you....

I'm surfing along just fine when I select some link in my browser.The status line reports "... waiting for ..." and the browser seems to stall for a long time (minutes). Often, but not every time, I can select the STOP toolbar icon and reload the page. This time things work normally.
I have a similar but different malfunction running Evolution email connected to my hosted IMAP server. I select a message and see "... formatting ..." and then Evolution seems to stall for a long time (minutes). Rarely the stop-reload actions help reading email. Instead,all Evolution windows go dark grey and the entire desktop stalls.[Analysis -- It has the feel of a "network" issue provoking issues within Evolution itself rather than an Evolution-only malfunction.]
Watching the running system with 'htop' and similar, I do not see where some other application or service is sucking all of the available CPU time or such. [Analysis -- It has the feel that either the browser message or the email message were sent into limbo without reaching their intended destination. Stop-reload sends the bits to the right places and so I get results.]
I'm running F12 LXDE on one of my laptops and run Thunderbird as my preferred email-client on that laptop. But I can't seem to find a way, in Thunderbird, to change my preferred browser to Opera. I must be overlooking something..
I have a dual boot machine with Fedora 12 and XP SP2.
Recently I tested download performance using www.speedtest.net. Using seamonkey on XP, i got 22 Mbps on my Comcast ISP. Not bad! However I then tried the same test on Fedora 12 with F12 seamonkey and got 16 Mbps. Thinking it must just be seamonkey, I tried the F12 Firefox and got 12 Mbps
This seems like a pretty big difference. I checked around on google and found several threads decying slower mozilla performance on Linux. I tried the suggestions to turn off ipv6 support, but there was not much improvement.
In my box Sun java and Open JDK co-exists. My problem is, despite been able to run java softs I can't run java applet in my browser (Opera mobile emulator, Facebook photo uploader etc).
Opera is my primary browser (Version 10.60 beta) and have FireFox 3.6.4 as the second choice. Both the browsers are malfunctioning when it comes to Java.

Searching with Google is a problem because of the competing fedora-commons.org repository and the multiplicity of names like RHEL and EPEL that may not be compatible with Fedora and may not be free.
I have updated from Fedora 14 to Fedora 15. I have both Firefox and Chrome installed. FF used to be the default browser, but since the upgrade, each time I click on a link somewhere (help pages, documents, terminal etc.) they are opened in chrome. How do I change it back to FF?
How do u get jre to work with fc 10 64bit? I've tried installing both x86.64 and i586 version from sun's website but firefox still shows plugin missing.
