View 12 RepliesIn my box Sun java and Open JDK co-exists. My problem is, despite been able to run java softs I can't run java applet in my browser (Opera mobile emulator, Facebook photo uploader etc).
Opera is my primary browser (Version 10.60 beta) and have FireFox 3.6.4 as the second choice. Both the browsers are malfunctioning when it comes to Java.
Code: ~ $ /usr/java/jre1.6.0_25/bin/java -showversion Error occurred during initialization of VMjava/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object
That's the error I get. When trying to run a java app with the firefox plugin, the browser simply crashes if it's the 64bit java or tells me it's not installed if it's the 32bit version.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. I think it has something to do with leftover gunk from a previous version I misinstalled(Is that even a word?) Anyway, the only thing that google could come up with was a solution for windows which laid blame on Bill Gates for having a bunch of pf (java prefetch) files stuffed into c:windows for no apparent reason. The solution was to delete them, but I can't seem to find the java prefetch folder in linux. The method I used is downloading the rpm from java.com the rpm2tgz then installpkg then cp libnpjp2.so to firefox plugins folder.
I am trying to install the 32-bit version of Java because I regularly use a Java program that needs javaws. I went ahead and followed some instructions, and everything works except the java plugin. Even though I have nspluginwrapper installed (as Flash is working fine), Java does not want to work in Firefox. What do I need to do so that the 32-bit Java plugin will work in Firefox?

* This could be a problem with the server's configuration, or it could be someone trying to impersonate the server.
* If you have connected to this server successfully in the past, the error may be temporary, and you can try again later.
Or you can add an exception
You should not add an exception if you are using an internet connection that you do not trust completely or if you are not used to seeing a warning for this server.
If you still wish to add an exception for this site, you can do so in your advanced encryption settings.
How i can add exception or it is better to say me that :is there any browser instead of internet explorer for linux??
I am trying to figure out how to get EPS image support for a Gnome image browser, in particular Eye of Gnome (EOG) -- the default image viewer in Gnome. In Nautilus, thumbnails appear fine for EPS images, but when opening them in Eye of Gnome or gThumb, neither program can open the images. EOG says "unsupported file format", and gThumb shows a blank screen. Apparently both programs can get additional image support, but I can't seem to get it to work.
I have ghostscript updated to the latest version, and I'm using Fedora 10.
Anybody know how to do this?
Is it possible to have both 32 and 64bit java installed? I am trying to run the java SAP GUI. Im using F12 64bit and have got a working 64bit java. The SAP GUI errors when trying to connect and it looks like it wants 32bit. I found a doc saying to run the following which I have done but still not working.
export PLATIN_JAVA=/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_06/jre/bin/java
export PLUGIN_HOME=/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_6/jre/plugin
export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_6/jre
changing to my location of java. My java setup is as follows but im not sure whats going on.
java -version
java version "1.6.0_17"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.3-b01, mixed mode)
[ltodd2@UK00855F java]$ alternatives --config java
There is 4 program that provides 'java'.
Selection Command

1 /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.6.0-openjdk.x86_64/bin/java
2 /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.5.0-gcj/bin/java

I have installed the Java rpm for 64 bit. I have tried re installing it and it says its already installed but it doesn't not show up in my plugins on firefox. Then when I run something that requires Java it says java is required. I am very new to linux and I am not sure what to do
View 5 Replies View Relatedhow to run a java application on a 64 bit Firefox install on Fedora, but I didn't find any simple and direct way to do it. So I'll post this here, hoping that people who search for this problem can easily find this really quick solution.
1-> on the terminal do the usual su -
2-> yum install jre
3.> make a link in /home/your_name/.mozilla/plugins/ folder to the file located at /usr/java/jre1.6.0_23/lib/amd64/libnpjp2.so
(just select the file, press ctrl+shift and drag it to the plugins folder)
4-> go to http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp from firefox and test your install
Piece of cake, but it doesn't show up in search engines that easily when I look for: jre firefox 64 plugin fedora Granted that many tutorials mention the linking method, but most either tell you to install the binary/rpm from the java site or even installing the 32bit version for older fedoras... yum makes it so much easier.
I am using F13 and new to Linux, whenever I am browsing internet that contains java script, the browser crashes, showing error signal as:

View 6 Replies View RelatedHere's how to install latest Firefox on a 64 bit system (leaving your old firefox install untouched):
1. Get the latest Firefox tarball (64 bit) from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ and save it to whereever you like.
2. Make a new directory in /usr/lib64 and untar it there
Code:
3. We want to create a new user profile for Firefox 4. So start Firefox 4 profilemanager and create one.
Code:
Name the new profile whatever you like, I created a new profile named FF4b for example. Also before quitting make sure you click on the "default" profile so that you don't mess up your existing Firefox install.
4. You can now start Firefox 4 with the new profile:
5. If not already installed download flash player square plugin (64 bit) from [url]
Code:
Now you need to go to your .mozilla folder in your home directory and create a symlink for the flash plugin.
Code:
Now look for a folder which is associated with the firefox profile you created earlier. The folder name should end with the name you created it with. Mine was cay67zed.FF4b for example. Cd to that directory:
Code:
Make a plugins directory and put the symlink there:
Code:
If you want, you can create a launcher for Firefox 4 on your desktop or taskbar with the following command option:
Code:
Web Browsers and email clients unable to access the Internet.
Able to get software and updates with no problem.
The IVP6 setting is ignored in the Network Configuration. I have triggered it both ways.
As for the firewall configuration, well it freezes at the splash screen when invoked.
Fedora 12 is the first spin, since Fedora 9, that I was able to get any updates. Versions 10 and 11 could not access the internet with anything, no matter what was attempted.
BTW, I am using Mandriva 2010 to get through here.
What is the best way for installing Firefox and Sun JDK 32 bits alongside my 64 bits version?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a netbook (VPC) which is basic netbook with limited features. It has a basic version of Linux (Linux 2.6.24 platform). My instruction booklet says it does not support Flash (player): Flash - The current browser does not support any Flash players. This will prevent viewing some web pages. Certain major websites have a simplified version on the server which will load up. When I try to play games in flash, it does not work either. Browsing on the web also is very limited, I only see mobile (cell phone) versions? (the instruction booklet does state this though) I cannot even put favorites? Is there a way that I can get Flash installed or a better browser? So I can play games that are on Facebook, etc.? and view websites like a "normal" human being should be viewing them on the web?
This is what I figured out so far:
Wi-Fi
Onboard USB and Ethernet ports
An SD reader
7″ TFT display with an 800X480 resolution
2GB of internal storage
100 MHz processor
Linux with preloaded programs such as internet browser, spreadsheet, word processor, a media player for movies, music and pictures, e-book reader, dictionary, calendar, PDF reader, email, chat, calculator, file manager.
I'm looking for a browser than can handle heavy java usage. Firefox doesn't seem to be able to handle heavy usage anymore . Chromium does a decent job, but its just so different from Firefox I just can't get used to it. I have been trying to get used to chromium for over 2 weeks but can't because of the huge difference. So what other browsers can handle heavy java usage? On windows kmeleon was my go to browser to give you an idea of the browsers that I like.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using SeaMonkey instead of FireFox, and this won't change. SeaMonkey is set to be the default browser in Preferred Applications I use a java chat client every day (.jar), which has a button that opens an appropriate web address.
The problem is, it opens that site with FireFox instead of my desired SeaMonkey.
The client runs fine with openjdk and sunjava too ( I have both installed ), but they both open sites with FireFox. In Sun Java 6 Plugin Control Panel I set the SeaMonkey launcher as "Command to launch default browser", but the client still opens sites with FireFox. As for OpenJDK, I haven't found any way to modify settings.

After I reboot, my java process consumes 100% of the CPU then settles down to about 40% CPU and 12% memory, status sleeping (4 core AMD) I've removed the OpenJDK and installed Sun JRE but no difference. by comparison, Firefox with a lot of tabs is at 3% CPU and 5% memory. Is it better if I go to 10.04 LTS, 32 bit?
